Brazil will beat Chile, easily, in the second half, after a slow start.

Colombia will beat Uruguay, but it will be close because Forlan will try and save the day. Overtime game.

Mexico will destroy Holland with a last minute super goal

Costa Rica will win, Greece will see 2 red cards

France will win, sadly

Poor Algeria :(

Argentina and switzerland will be close, Argentina wins in overtime with a Maxi Rodríguez goal

USA will tie at the end, and then win on a diving penalty in overtime. Many yellows to be had.

the US definitely has a chance at beating belgium. i can't wait for tuesday. i'm going to go CRAZY if we make it to the next round. USA! USA! USA!

Definitively. Belgium have performed rather poorly given their "dark horse" status. Its going to be a close match.

Kind of difficult to rate the teams. In terms of chances of winning, Netherlands should take last position, because if they reach them of course they'll bottle in the semis or final. Brazil has a much bigger chance to win it, though apart from Neymar (but surely he can't handle the pressure) haven't really impressed me so far. Argentina will be a fiesty cupfighter but no way are Brazil going to let them win it at their home turf.

So my list is sort of a mix between how good they are and chances of winning.

1. France
2. Germany
3. Brazil
4. Netherlands
5. Chile
6. Colombia
7. Argentina
8. Greece
9. Mexico
10. Belgium
11. Switzerland
12. Costa Rica
13. Uruguay
14. USA
15. Nigeria
16. Algeria

They've conceded once via penalty. They scored and won their third game with 10 men. We won't really know how they will fare until they face teams that are considered to be better I guess. They might bring me delicious tears, so I'm optimistic.

Here's mine:

1. Netherlands (Only had any sort of difficulty with Australia)
2. Colombia (Steamrolled through an easy group)
3. Costa Rica (Topped the group of champions. Never thought I'd say that)
4. Germany (It's Germany)
5. France (Only reason they are not higher is because of Ecuador performance)
6. Chile (Made it through the hardest group)
7. Mexico (performing above expectations but have a battle with Holland)
8. Brazil (performing below expectations)
9. Argentina (Lionel Messi is the only reason they are not lower than they already are.)
10. Belgium (Have the talent to do damage but struggled scoring against 3 weak teams)
11. USA (Gotta be doing something right if you made it past Portugal and Ghana)
12. Switzerland (Good midfield, decent attackers, lousy defending)
13. Algeria (They can score and have defeated Germany in the past but nothing noteworthy otherwise)
14. Greece (Should be thankful they made it this far.)
15. Uruguay (Team will be dead in the water against Colombia without their count)
16. Nigeria (fighting from within the federation will be the end of them)

You guys beat didn't even beat England.

England!

The most pathetic, horrible, failure, deadbeat, has-been, feeble, pitiful, sorry, woeful, inadequate, useless, wretched, worthless, poor, and shity football nation out there.

England should just give their spot to Scotland next time or let their players play for Ireland like the 1994 Irish squad.

We beat them when we disqualified them while playing against Italy. That game against them was a formality, no need to even make an effort.

USA is exactly the kind of teams Belgium should have most problems with. USA MNT thrives on exasperating talented teams with order and physicality. Is almost like USA was made for beating Belgium (and Ghana and Portugal), teams with great individual talent but poor tactical form.

Except Belgium are probably the most ordered and physical team in the tournament.

I am rather certain Belgium and Holland will advance. Holland will have an easy opponent after Mexico (I hope its Costa Rica, they won't defend as much as Greece). I've yet to see Belgium get past Argentina but its not impossible, they are poor if it weren't for Messi. Belgium does have a more solid defense and midfield. But a semi final between these 2 lowland neighbours is certainly possible.

Has this been posted? Wall Street Journal World Cup Flopping Ranking

Brazil has the most occurrence, but the actual wasted time is below median.

Yep, it's terribly flawed. I also think their counts are way off, given that Portugal's Meireles spent more time on the ground for a beard injury than they're saying Portual wasted in "writhing time." It's a click bait piece, but it's really an inaccurate one at that.

Didn't showed it during the group stage, imo. And I was talking more about a physical game.

Maybe we watched different matches, but Belgium had the most organised, and physically strong team in the group stages, with the best defence.

They are a very structured, large, physical team. People keep talking about their talent, but their game is much more based on defence and keeping their shape. They have now won nine competitive matches in succession, and they keep grinding out results.

Their defense is good and they should be physically sound, but its mostly their offense being clueless and one dimensional. Its basically everything on Hazard.

They have great players, but a lot of them sort of have the same role. But they basically only conceded a penalty. Even though its in an easy group its good enough. Holland is comparable, who only conceded 2 bs penalties and a one of a lifetime goal from Cahill in a somewhat tough group. But they are the most deadly counter attacking side of this cup.

We're indeed a very organized side. I'm really disappointed in what we've shown so far but 5 goals conceded in 13 World Cup (+qualifications) games is not a coincidence.

I think most people agree that they are a quality side. They were just really hyped up. Haven't met "expectations" yet but at the same time results are all that matter and they are 3 for 3.

We didn't lose 13 competitive matches in a row, but we didn't win the last 9 though. We played a draw in our last qualifying match against Wales.

However, we have yet to lose a match with Courtois in the goal.

Oh OK, not sure where I read that then!

Those sorts of teams give the US fits. I think Belgium wins 1-0 when the US defense has its howler.

Yeah, they're playing bad on the midfield and the attack, but even as someone who doesn't like them; they seem to have the best defense. And their goalie is probably the best current goalie in the world.

Made a bet with my manager and two coworkers about Saturdays games but it's coming down to score since we all picked the same winners.

I'm saying 2-1 Brazil and 3-1 Netherlands.

In the round of 16 nothing is certain, but we can't complain with getting Mexico. I was more afraid of Brazil as they have home advantage and will likely not leave during the round of 16 already. I also think Brazil could've score some 3 if that goalie didn't have the day of his life.

I do think we should have more faith in our squad by now. Our offense is solid and in top form, our defense is surprisingly good as well. If they keep doing their thing, we can send Mexico home with 2 or 3 goals. I hope we'll win as I'm almost 100% certain we'll bury our opponent after it.

Every team gives the US fits...:p...but at the same time they manage to be in every match even when it feels like they're mostly being dominated (Germany). Good enough for me. :)

It would be a severe mistake to underestimate Mexico. They will be a serious threat to Netherlands.

Going to be fantastic game.

I think Mexico historically has based most of its succes in confidence/lack of it.

Usually when we play as the underdogs we perform really well. I remember before the 98 world cup, the team played a series of matches afainst european sides in Europe, i think they even lost to some second division teams then, no one was expecting much from the team but they managed to tie Netherlands and Belgium after being 2-0 after half time with both teams.

So far Herrera has made a great work with the team, mostly taking pressure out of them after the abysmal qualification they had.

Another thing i love about Herrera is that he is a very attack minded manager, looks at his subs in the three matches we played, not a single denfensive sub, he never plays for a tie or with fear, i expect a very open game on sunday and if we manage to score first there will be a good chance we make it through.

Of course Netherlands is a better team on paper but i hape some hope still.

I'm trying to think of one advantage the US has over Belgium. Their offense doesn't have that flow and passing some of the big teams have but is the US team known for slicing up defenses either?

On the flip side they got a guy in Hazard that can just make shit happen at any given moment.

My life had no meaning today, I have been wandering the streets with no goal.

My gut feeling also tells me that Chili will beat Brazil tomorrow :x

With Howard Webb as referee? forget it. Brazil is going through, no matter how. Sanchez' worries are justified imho.

Belgium is overall the better squad but that doesn't mean USA doesn't stand a chance. For Belgium this is the first World Cup in 12 years, that could be a disadvantage.

Of course they got a chance, every team left has a chance considering this is football. But as far as predictions and bets go I don't see a glaring reason to choose the US as it stands over Belgium.
