Thor is now the goddess of Thunder

Once Thor 3 comes around, we're just gonna have the old Thor back again. This is just another cheap comic book gimmick like a death of a character, only to bring them back months or a year later.

I was talking about different pantheon's.
Hell Odinson's daughter get's the hammer too in that one DTV movie

why not just make a cool new female character without using an old character as a crutch? its still interesting news though

Marvel did have a series about the Asgardian warrior Sif, and it was even written by a woman, but they cancelled it.

edit: Well, she's not a NEW character but it was still better than just using the name of an already famous character.

Its certainly why I moved away from reading as much main continuity superhero stuff. Is there a problem with that?

when people make the proclamation "insert reason x" is why i dont read comics every time a comic thread is made? it gets annoying

It's not bullshit, though. I understand why you're defensive about this, but it's my honest opinion. I feel it's hard to get attached to stories and events that in the end will just be retconned by the next guy responsible for that one character.

i doubt it will be retconned. very few things are retconned.

Thor isn't a title though.

Did I mention that I hate that design?

It pretty much is. When Eric masterson had the hammer he ran around as "thor" and was addressed as "Thor" despite the actual Thor being elsewhere and everyone knowing perfectly well that masterson wasn't him.

This is just marvel being consistent, but no one in their right mind expects this to stick.

Prety much this. Same thing as with Spidey being Ock :) Expect going back to old Thor in one year or so...

In less than twelve months it will revert. Comics don't keep changes like this for long, just for enough time to create news and attract readers.

I don't think it's Tara; I don't see a reason for her to need Thor's hammer when her powerset is pretty up there.

I kind of want it to be Valkyrie since she's like forgotten since the female Defenders was cancelled.

She is gone anyway. She left earth during Fear Itself.

A woman who takes up the mantle of Thor after something happens to him is not a retcon. Thor being back to take up the mantle again is not a retcon either. That's just plot. A retcon would be something drastic. Like if all super heroes had new origin stories.

Yea that's Angela.

This will be like Superior Spider-Man, they'll stick with it until Thor shows up in a movie again.

Because 9.999999 times out of 10 they fail. The baggage from established characters--even when not directly addressed--helps a lot in keeping new 'big' characters alive.

More likely than not they will use the hype to allow this character to be sustainable after the status quo has been returned and the character retrofitted to be more independent.

Doesn't the inscription on thor's hammer specifically say the holder will wield the power of thor and not actually become thor?

Then again it also specifically states that the holder be male. Oh stan lee.

Why is Thor no longer worthy? Is that a comic thing or are they just saying that?

It's a comic thing.

Wait, what the hell is going on with Thor? Is something happening lately that would deem him so unworthy of holding the hammer that they're justifying this?

Yes. They've hinted at it. In Avengers #31, Thor talks to future Thor, who does not have the hammer.

This seem really fucking stupid. How does Thor losing his hammer not make him Thor?

He remains Thor the god, but the power conferred by Mjolnir also comes with the title of Thor.

He goes on.

You actually see him in a recent comic where some time travel happens and in the future hundreds of years later he's alive. But he no longer has the hammer. He's still Thor. He's just not worthy of the hammer.

Dude is still a God.

This.

What story have you become detached to because of a different story happening after?

So, Thor stops being worthy and now someone, a female, bares the name and wields the hammer? OH NO, WHAT AN AWFUL THING.

It isn't like Odin decided "I NO LONGER WANT A SON" and made him a female. Some people act like the biggest babies.

The facebook comments for this announcement are hilarious. Women are legit pissed thinking Hemsworth is gonna be gender-swapped

Link to this? I checked the Marvel pages and it's just a bunch of dudes butthurt with a few calling women sluts and crying about "feminism," as if women stormed the Marvel offices this morning and forced the issue.
