Motiga is a group here in Seattle built from ex NCSoft, Sierra Online, En Masse, and others, and their new game Gigantic looks pretty awesome.

I don't get all the love for these exaggerated cartoony art styles for these F2P games, they're all starting to look incredibly samey to me.

Yeah, there seems to be a shared aesthetic between this, Dota, Battleborn, League, etc... the same way there is one between the King.com games.

Looks cool.

I still have to question the intelligence of these executives who willingly label their games as rivals to LoL and Dota 2.

Trying to directly compete with those two on PC is a fool's errand. Changing up the gameplay, controls, and camera to carve out your own niche might work, though. That's what Smite did, and it's currently faring pretty well.

I'm only trying this if I can be that Godzilla dude. (Though Owlman was awesome too.)

It was very nice of them to show a whole second of gameplay. That's always the worst, when CGI trailers have zero gameplay.

I sorta hope it is more like Advent of the Zenith (WC3-era MOBA) with more large-scale combat and cinematic or gamechanging abilities. If you've played it, you'll understand what I mean when I say "Kisrug Dins" versus "Myriad."

Why label it as a MOBA, though? It makes no sense.

Kinda expecting Microsoft to call Halo 5's multiplayer a MOBA too nowadays.

The issue with MOBAs, much like MMORPGs, is that they require time invested. Why don't companies understand that people keep going back to WoW (MMO) or Dota2/League (MOBA) because they spent hundreds of hours learning and investing into their account/character?

That's why no MMO or MOBA launched since these behemoths has broke out. Sure, they can be successful (FFXIV and RIFT are good examples), but they're never going to be smash hits.

I'm just on MOBA overload. I play League and Dota 2 and will likely never touch another MOBA.

This whole MOBA craze reminds me of the Rock band craze from a while back. This market is going to crash a burn (outside of Valve's efforts).

Not the same thing. It's more akin to WoW craze. Lots of companies will try to catch a piece of the pie. Some will see moderate success through microtransactions.

No most will die. Not everybody can do the microtransactions well. There will be a path strewn with corpses. Well deserved mind you. If you are that nuts go to another market.

I love the look, properly windwakerish.

Signed up for the Alpha.

The alchemist guy's name is Uncle Sven, how could they do that...

One liners about new MOBAs are the new MOBAs.

Because it'll probably still use a good portion of the mechanics that have been established for that genre. The label makes it identifiable to people who are interested in that sort of game.

Im digging the WW style. From the pics it looks like a League clone but after watching the video I can tell the artsyle is totally different.

It also makes it easier for people who are already caught up in LoL/Dota 2 to ignore these new propositions since most can't even fathom the idea of trying out new things, and it also makes it easier for people (like some ITT) who are full of prejudices to ignore them because these games are popular and free-to-play, and therefore they must be shit.

Call it "a new multiplayer action game" and suddenly people will at least feign more interest.

I do like the art style, but as others have pointed out: MOBAs are usually colourful. I signed up for the Alpha, seems like it could be neat.

EDIT: Actually, how is this a MOBA?

Absolutely agreed. Whenever a friend recommends I play Path of Exile or any RPG whatsoever these days, I feel inundated with useless lore my mind refuses to remember. Races, classes, abilities - even having a grasp on the numbers to know when a weapon has good stats or bad - takes a lot of effort, time and interest.

I'm starting to actually get to the point where I only trust a small number of devs to make games I am willing to pay attention to simply because too many places are offering the same stuff with different names.

Looks exactly the same as the another arena shooter that was announced a couple weeks ago. I guess it was called Battleborn.

You pick a hero, level him up by killing creeps and other heroes, buy items to get better. Rinse and repeat?
