Resident Evil Requiem - hand on previews (1st and 3rd person perspective option confirmed)

1st/3rd person can be a tough task because of the differences in animation. I'm thinking back to games like Thief: Deadly Shadows.
Oh, for sure, but I wouldn't fully judge until we get a first proper impression with several parts of the game and when we see all respected playable characters and how they play out. I am going to go with the flow and trust Capcom on this one for now until contrary evidence arises.

as it shouldn't, never stop looking out for advances in technology.
The issue is GAF usually go overboard with it and call the game "trash" just because the graphics didn't meet their expectations, this basically happened with RE4R.

I even remember before RE4R coming out they called worse remake even worse than RE3R just because of graphics.

He might be right though... trying to be two very different things at the same time is hard ... one style dosent mash with the other. But its time to wait and see.. I skipped the last two RE because of FP but I really want to go back after the awsome remakes...

It will be curious to see what the "intended" perspective to play is as that will be the foundation of the combat system. I'm assuming that will be first person again. RE7 and RE8 were bad by no means, but I'm not the biggest fan of their first person perspective and gun play.

So they're slowly retreating from the idea of offering first person RE games? First they've added it post-launch in Village and now they're not even going to make people wait.

I'll always pick TPP if possible, but the problem with a feature like this is that you can't have both options without one of them feeling like the inferior one.

I can see your point, FPS and TPS are vastly different experiences, but sometimes it really feels like theres just no pleasing people.
First person - people don't want to play. Third person - people don't want to play. Option for both? - no one wants to play.

Currently listening to this one.

The gangly creature we saw in the trailer is a stalker for Grace after she wakes up. The description of the stalking sounds similar to Alien Isolation. The creature uses holes in the ceiling to get around and you have to hide and avoid it until it goes away. Wasn't clear if its tracks based on noise though.

Edit: the creature is very large. Like taller than the ceiling and it has to hunch over.

Is is RE4R styled 3rd person, or the half-assed Village styled 3rd person?

Multiple previews say it's more like the Remakes and not the bolted on third person ala Village.

They've probably learnt over the years. Village's third person was basically a third person camera mod on a first person game.

Shame they want you to change POV through menu's but of course mods can fix that problem easy enough. Should just be a button press like Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Starfield.

As for the Stalker enemy...if it gets annoying we can of course get rid of that too. I'd rather they get something similar to the Alien AI from Isolation. Most of their stalker enemies or rather bosses in general just have very dumb AI.

An Alien Isolation kind of RE could be interesting but I doubt they can reach Alien Isolation's quality. Optimistic though!

Sounds like me on a weekend to be honest.

I think the last games sold really well ? Dont know if they met their expectations
Though... I personally dont play FP games so its not for me .. witch dosent mean the game wont be successful

Maybe the team wanted to do something different? More classic ? But dont want to alienate the new fans ?

I hope is good .. if they can nail both aspects.. well excellent

I couldn't play RE7 or RE8 being first person, felt sick and I generally don't like first person. I just hope the 3rd person mode feels like classic RE as RE8 looks off being in 3rd person as it wasn't designed for it.

Sorry to be a Debbie downer but, if it has both FP and TP...it's most probably gonna look like the one in RE8 Village (using the DLC) which while OK, wasn't obviously as good a normal TP RE camera - and I say "obviously" 'cause they aren't going to fine-tune it like an exclusively TP game since it takes more time (animations etc).

Guess we'll have to wait and see but I'm not holding my breath...

From the Gamespot video.

You can turn all the lights and lamps on/off.

Looks like a perk of being current gen is that this might be using RTGI.

Nah, the trailer was 60fps. All modern RE games have been 60fps even with RT.

No reason to assume this won't.

According to previews the lighting is incredible, a huge next gen leap for the series.

As for frame rate, I have no issue playing this style of game at 30fps

Yeah I'm not too keen on the toggle thing, something has to give.
If it plays like a FPS then the 3rd person will be limited or hampered by it.
If it's built round 3rd Person and just had a perspective change and everything is intact, that would be better but it's gonna feel weighted and awkward to see what's going on in FP.

It's a compromise. Basically throwing a bone to 3rd person enjoyers to be able to play the FPS sections in that way, and vice versa with the 3rd person recommended sections.

If there is a "recommended" mode, I really hope they have a default mode that automatically chooses the recommended option throughout the game. Outside of mild curiosity, I'd rather play in whatever mode the level was designed with in mind. FPS or TPS, I don't mind either way. And if that's FPS throughout, that's fine too... Just don't make me want to choose back and forth unless you can have a dedicated button for it.

I wonder if they'll do 2 styles here.
Grace with first person, fewer tougher encounters and more horror like RE7 and Leon with more action and 3rd person like the remakes, basically the junction of the two game designs in this game and maybe going forward.

The reason I believe this will have better 3rd person view is we're allowed to see Grace's face.

Try the 3rd person view on 8 and the camera stops you from seeing Ethans face so it acts differently that 2,3 and 4 remake.

I hate 1st person resident evil games and will try my best to not use it if it is as I hope.

Hunnnnn can I dream ? ... finally being able to play a modern RE

Now just go back fo zombies and virus and make me a old nostalgic happy man

graphics are definitely kicked up a notch. while the characters aren't fully believable as actual people (honestly just needs better skin shaders & sub surface scattering), everything else shown looks nearly photorealistic

From what can see it seems it much more stylized compare to RE7&8 but to me that's actually positive point.

Agreed – I feel like this is always the case with the Capcom games, the characters are just a few shades away from looking like actual people instead of cartoons. For me it's usually the eyes – I don't know why they insist on giving all the blonde women characters light blue eyes, it looks weird. I think the closest we got was Ada Wong in 8. At least the lighting and textures got a nice boost here. We're getting some of that good RE7 lighting again.

Looks like another game where you're being chased by something you can't kill again. Seems to be every game now.

I don't know about first person. I hated the 1st person controls in RE Village, so clunky. I think most developers are clueless with 1st person (and 3rd) controls on consoles currently.

It was not always like that. I played recently FC4 with the 60fps patch on PS5 and the 1st person controls are perfect. But now they add tons of assistance, acceleration that make it awful to control and play.

Max compared the Grace Ashcroft gameplay experience to something more like Alien Isolation.

He also said that it was implied 'first person is recommended for this gameplay section' which means that a potential other gameplay section could recommend third person instead.

Not sold on the whole this section is recommended in first person mode, so head to the menu and change it.

Should be a quick change, not a cumbersome one.
