Resident Evil Requiem - hand on previews (1st and 3rd person perspective option confirmed)

will use 3rd person perspective occasionally to check her booty

SamuraiEdge SamuraiEdge now I see how to talk about third person in this game correctly.

Maximillion likens playing the Grace portion of the demo as playing Alien Isolation.

I'm intrigued.
I hope that means they greatly expanded on the stealth

I also hope she and Leon don't switch back and forth significantly. I'd like to start a campaign as one or the other instead of losing control of my character for long periods of time.

We need a person who hates re first person mode, and re8 third person mode to get hands on so we know the truth about whether re9 third person is any good.

Day zero preorder for me.

I've never played a Resident Evil I didn't like. That's a great franchise considering how many I've played. The last few have been beyond legendary into the realm of goat. All in.

Can you imagine if Capcom made a console how cool it would be?

This isn't good.

The game is obviously going to be designed with one in mind over the other.

The other will suffer.

As much as I wanted this to be third person, I didn't want to be like this.

At what point before the release does Capcom usually give us a demo to play?
Depends. RE7 had a demo a month before release. RE4R was 2 weeks before release. Would be neat if they let everyone play a demo during Gamescom but I think we will just get footage from people attending Gamescom. I'd guess the Gamescom footage will likely just be what the select few like Max got to play.

I never realized the camera mode was so contentious until RE2R came about.
One of my favourite games of all time is REmake 1 but to this day I still think the initial mansion section from RE7 is the single best piece of content ever put out by a Resident Evil game and it's not even close, and the first-person perspective was a huge part of that.
Hearing people say that they hated it in 7 and Village kinda surprised me considering RE7 was so popular that basically it single-handidly revived the franchise. Myself included, by the time Operation Racoon City came around I had already given up on RE games despite loving the early ones and RE7 made me fall in love with the franchise again.
This is valid and I've heard many say this.
But RE2R single-handidly revived it for most and I still feel the halls of the RPD had more dread then anything RE7 showed us, in fact I don't see RE7 as something worth playing outside VR
and even the developers said they found the right formula for the future of RE when developing it in their RE2R interview.
But I think now that it has a base after two games, that style needs to be included whilst also pursuing revised future of the traditional style.
The previews said the 3rd Person toggle was the (and one more thing) after the preview.
They also mention Grace does a lot of stuff which is distracting in FPV because you missing the what you're seeing in 3rd person so I don't think they actually built the game around FP this time, which is good.
A 3rd person built game can easily translate to FPV, not as seamless the other way around.

RE:4 and RE:7 felt the best iterations per their core POVs in RE Engine so I'll be happy if each mode matches this enough. That or come the locations bdjng designed to fit better say with whatever character is at the helm you play as.

Majority of survival horror has this even back in PS1 and PS2 days.
Yeah I know but I just would like to enjoy the atmosphere without worrying about running away from someone again. I love these games but it's the same shtick over and over.

To me if it's well done enough add tension and scare….in survival horror should never feel safe.

Depends on how it is done. If they can nail that Alien Isolation feel then great. Otherwise it's just one of those forced stealth sections no one likes.

Both the Beginning Hour demo for RE7 and the RE4 Chainsaw demo released 2-3 weeks before. I wouldn't expect a demo soon

Another character with a cool jacket who sadly loses cool jacket early on in the game.
TBH I kind of like her plain white T with bandages underneath look. Looks more vulnerable. Definitely better than Jill and Claires remake Lara Croft rip off tanks

Unlocking the jacket for cool second playthroughs is also great. I just hope Leon has his RE4 jacket unlockable. I doubt whatever jacket he has here will be as compare.

Capcom is making it really f*cking hard for me some of us to give a shit about this franchise when they keep insisting in making their new games with random nobodies as the protag, instead of giving us established characters that most of the community has been clamoring for. I know they've hinted at another character, heavily armed, which might be one of the classics (please not Leon again), but this shit has either gotta stop or they have to explicitly retire those characters off to greener pastures. Kinda like what was done to Barry Burton in Revelations 2. He interrupted his retirement to rescue Moira and then it was over, back to kicking back on a lawn chair and downing some beers to relax.

I guess I'm glad with FPS and/or TPS, because in this situation if one plays better than the other I'll just use that one. But it's nice to know they're adding the option to use both, I'd assume they'd give both a lot of attention to ensure they can both coexist as best as they can.

I really love the idea of them revisiting Raccoon City, and even some more obscure characters. Makes sense that they'd wanna do that with the 30th anniversary and all. It feels like a neat way to celebrate the series.

I will say I'm a huge fan of the whole Lisa Trevor theory. I think it does make a whole lot of sense considering you hear chains, it's really hard to not think of her.

The whole breakdown of the demo they saw sounds super neat too.

I preordered Resident Evil and got my fat box PS1 copy as soon as I could, and I've loved the series ever since. I enjoyed the later iterations, but I still hope that this one is even better than those.

She's far from a nobody considering her lineage. I actually think them going this route is actually MUCH cooler than the whole Ethan thing. Especially since she's the daughter of a character from a previous game that a lot of the community loved/loves. It also shows that there's a possibility to bring back a number of characters and environments from the original games which is really neat IMO.

You could turn the lights off in Duke Nukem 3D
And in the original Aliens Vs Predator on PC! You could completely destroy every light source making Marine and Predator players resort to flares, nightvision, and other vision modes to see. I still can't believe we haven't seen such impressive tech over the years. Especially multiplayer based ones. (I know there have been others, but it's wild we haven't seen more.)

Max compared the Grace Ashcroft gameplay experience to something more like Alien Isolation.

He also said that it was implied 'first person is recommended for this gameplay section' which means that a potential other gameplay section could recommend third person instead.

Yup, I'm super hyped for this.

Not sure how I feel about the game options stating 'first-person recommended' or 'third-person recommended' based on the section you're on in the game, I hope that's not the case at all and that this is just Max's interpretation of what the recommendation might mean for the rest of the game. I suppose it could be cool to have the best of both worlds with a variance in gameplay and tone, but that might be really difficult to nail from a developer perspective.

From the Gamespot video.

You can turn all the lights and lamps on/off.

Looks like a perk of being current gen is that this might be using RTGI.
That's quite huge because it would make the shift towards real time illumination, instead of prebaked (or maybe two pre-baked conditions in RAM):messenger_grinning_sweat:

I find the comment cute considering Leon was a nobody in RE2. Literal first day on the job and it took a couple games and a bunch of movies to get to where he is now.

Yeah, I agree. At some point every character is a nobody, so I don't really have a problem with it personally. Especially if it's done well.

Excellent. I fucked 7 & 8 off, RE isn't and will never be a first-person game ffs.
And I'm sure this is why they're doing it. They know they have fans that love the series but don't want first person. I certainly didn't mind it because FPS games were my favorite since I was a kiddo, but I can certainly understand not liking the connection there.

I personally wouldn't say you're missing too much skipping them anyway IMO. RE7's first half was great, second was much weaker. RE8 paled in comparison outside of a few cool moments. However it felt like it was way too on rails. I'd like to think they're straying away from that in 9, at least I really hope so.

I think what's especially cool is Grace Ashcroft is gonna give a lot of players some exposure to Outbreak which for many would be a new experience all on it's own.

Yuuup! So many people don't even know Outbreak exists, and there have been people loving it and wishing there was more of it for decades. So, while this isn't Outbreak, it's certainly neat to finally see them give it some kind of recognition.

I thought it was especially interesting that people have theorized there being a canonical scenario where Alyssa cured herself of the T-virus (like you could at the end of the game), and then later gave birth somehow carrying those properties into Grace's blood. I think it's a totally believeable scenario.
