Xbox One: Preview Update August 2014 (1408)

Dumb question - I got the July preview update because someone here invited me, but just now I tried launching the Dashboard Preview app and I get:

This app is for the Xbox Preview program members only.

Do I have to get invited month to month, or is this normal?

No, once you're in the preview program you have to opt out to be removed from it. I have seen others in the Xbox Preview Forums with the same message ....You can try unistalling and reinstalling the app to see if that will fix it. You are not the only one with that error though.

No, you should be in for every month. That seems strange.

I wonder when MS is going to add in customization on the home screen. It would be nice to resize and move tiles and add in a custom background.

This month is nice though. I like that 3d blu ray is finally working.

This will literally be my brothers first 3D bluray player for his 3D tv that he's had for years. I find that sort of hilarious.

I got a 3D bluray player with my bedroom TV when I bought it. It came with Avatar. I watched that halfway through, and then the player sat there for 3 years before I finally sold it. I can't imagine anyone watches 3D blurays

there is vibration when you press the xbox button?

and the new activity feed is nice, looks a lot less messy

And, to be clear - 3D Bluray will need an app update to work, and that's coming. I'm not sure when though, but we will let you know once we have that info!

As far as the new Friends screen on Home - that will be something that we're doing as an experiment this month, so a portion of this audience will get it, but not everyone. It's not quite ready yet, but again, we'll let you know when we turn this on. :)

Added info.

Oh, I like that vibration.

There needs to be a "back to top" button on the activity feed. I hate it when apps omit that.

You can use full voice commands in settings now. Voice commands didn't use to work in there before. You had to switch to the controller.

This means we can now do things like manual xbox one system updates with voice controls. :D

I mean you can actually navigate the entirety of the settings menus now using just your voice.

Omg finally!

Any chance that adding 3d playback will help smooth out 24 hz for blu-ray playback? I get some strange stuttering with some blu-rays using 24 hz.

The surround audio from the apps and HDMI input still erroneoulsy comes from the rear surround channels in a 7.1 system. I was hoping MS would have fixed this by now. I can't seriously use the apps and HDMI input on my Xbox Ones because the audio doesn't sound right coming from the wrong channels..

BD audio and Game audio are mapped to the proper channels. So I don't understand why they haven't fixed the audio from the apps and HDMI input yet.

Don't see the new friends tab on the home screen! Wonder if that will be added later?
Yeah it's coming later and not to everyone even if you're in the Preview or not it seems.
•Expanded Friends area on Home: Right from Home, see what’s going on with your friends. Stay up-to-date with their current activity, the top trending games your friends are playing, and a leaderboard to see who has been working the hardest on their Gamerscore. We’re doing an extended preview on this, rolling it into the early access preview this month to a subset of our preview audience so we can refine it until it’s ready for the entire Xbox One market.

I have this problem in some games. Guacamelee for example, the character's voices and sound effects come from the rears instead of the center (or anywhere up front would be nice). The weird thing is the PS3 version did the same damn thing, so I chalked it up to my receiver, but then again movies and everything else work flawlessly so I just don't know who to blame. I'm not dropping $500 on a new receiver just to find out.

They look fantastic on my TV. Better experience than the theatre.

Edit: Only some people getting 3D Blu Ray for now?

This is whack, Phil.

How does one know if they were accepted to the preview program? Do you get a message or email?

I get messages every month prior to the preview release via my Xbox.. so that would be the for sure sign. I know when I signed my brother up he did also get a message via his Xbox One.

I signed the hell out of that! Love that feature on Windows 8 and my phone!
