Why would you spend resources to create an effect (which lowers detail) that camera manufacturers spend loads of R&D on trying to eliminate?
To add a sense of greater realism through imperfection that is inherent to the technology of our time.

Or maybe it was held back/gimped AND suffered from time constraints because they were busting their asses to get it to perform adequately on The One. This is the scenario I suspect and the one that I find most upsetting.

I cancelled my pre-order. I refuse to support develops who pull shit like this.

I think I kinda like the Chromatic Aberration =x

I wish it was exclusive because then my 360 friends would be getting PS4s instead of X1s. Making Destiny a multiplat with no cross-platform character importing is really segregating the playerbase and separating friends.
From what I'm hearing, a lot of us are facing the same issue. Hardcore gamers going PS4 for the definitive version vs. Halo casuals going X1 for MCC.
With parity, Xbox One owners can feel happy that Bungie are making the most of their console. But PS4 owners have to accept the parity or they are evil fanboys.
I HATE IT.
Makes it look like my tv needs calibrated to fix the stupid blue and red from bleeding around objects. It's like this old ass 480i rear-projection tv we had back in the late 90's. Had to re-calibrate now and then to fix that.
No, Hardcore gamers buy both.
I totally understand why some people would hate it
That's just unfair. Using SniperHunter in argument is the NeoGAF equivalent of Godwin's Law.This is what I'm talking about here. The game is still beautiful and fun but if the p's match some people flip a 180. Come on man.
The issue now is, early in this generation the console warlords declared "1080p" as the main point of contention between these two consoles. It's an easy and straight up number. Less means worse. But what they didn't realize, is that in the grand scheme of things, 1080p was probably the easiest thing for Microsoft to overcome. 1080p is not the only metric to judge graphics, but because it was used so much in arguments, now we're left with this bloodbath.

1080p on both is not the problem. Bungie developer outright said there's a parity on both versions of the game.
Or maybe we were (and still are) also busting our asses on every other platform, too, going as far as to deploy patches and updates for graphical issues (and a myriad of others) mid stride during beta to make sure everyone has a great experience, and that we deliver something we're a proud of anywhere we ship Destiny.
That's not the drama you're looking for, but it is the truth. Every platform is different. Each has strengths and we aim to take advantage of ALL THE THINGS.

Same reason Firefly's director of photography intentionally added more lens flare by trading in expensive camera lenses for cheaper ones: It helped achieve the look he wanted the show to have.
It's used to try to simulate lenses. I know The Order is using it to make it look like it was filmed with an old timey camera.
B. Believing their own embarrassing conspiracy theory narrative about moneyhats and parity and other such nonsense.
What'll it be, dudes?
See incan understand in the Order a bit since they seem to want to give the impression you're watching a movie while playing a game. It fits evennif i don't necessarily like it.
But stuff like Destiny and other games that are meant to be immersive? There's nothing that ruins that effect more than by seeing effects that the human eye doesn't
How do you disassociate display resolution from how a game looks?

Psst.
This is the point at which people need to decide between:
A. Believing the Bungie employee telling you that they're going to use each system as best they can
or
B. Believing their own embarrassing conspiracy theory narrative about moneyhats and parity and other such nonsense.

Can you name some of these advantages? The PS4 has more raw power but the Xbone has some advantages in some areas because of other tech. The power PS4 is used for the higher resolution much more can not be done.
The people act as if the power difference between PS4 and Xbox One is enormous. But this is not the case.

Hasn't it been confirmed that bungie went with parity so that users will have the same experience across all platform?
It sucks for sure, lazy and uninspiring. Seeing this is a cross gen game, I don't mind it all that much, but be damned if they try this on other next gen titles that are multiplatform "PS4/One!!
That shit I won't accept!
I'm confused, isn't the 900p "standard" on the Xbox One related to the EDRAM and not overall processing power?
It's not like we just switched console manufactorers and have the same situation. PS3 was arguably more powerful, but it was just a bigger pain for multiplat developers to develop on. I liked having a 360 for multiplatform games.I remember a time when all PS3 owners such as myself wanted same performance for PS3 versions of multiplat games and now that the winds have changed it's not good enough. What gives (considering this is a cross-gen multiplat game)?
Can you name some of these advantages?
Right. People are distraught that Bungie isn't spending extra time on PS4. The extra time and love for X1 came from MS giving them resources. That's free time and resources for Bungie. This doesn't mean Bungie should tit or tat on the PS4 version just because. Who says they wouldn't use Sony engineers if provided? The MS help is a variable added that helps the X1 and that's it, but people seem to want extra time and resources thrown at PS4 when the dev bandwidth may not be there from Bungie.

I think it's because you're wearing a helmet in Destiny and are seeing out through a screen.
Ever notice how a lot of the helmets in Destiny don't have very good visibility? I think the implication is that you're seeing the inside of your character's helmet, which is using a camera to project things onto an internal display.
...Or they just thought it looked cool. It's not like most other games are well known for exactly duplicating the behavior of the human eye, and strict realism isn't a terribly high priority in a game with Moon-wizards and magical golden fire-guns that can be generated out of thin air.
But you must remember that HUD is around the perimeter of the helmet (CA in photographs are visible around the corners) and so it makes sense.
IIRC in BF4 (and 3) the whole lens flare and dirt were made visible even though the protagonist was not wearing goggles.
It's an art direction choice. After all, in all visual mediums the developers seldom go for a visual style that's identical to real world.
Yep, one of those embarrassingly delusional junior comments right here. The people act as if the power difference between PS4 and Xbox One is enormous. But this is not the case.

Heh, oh boy -- posts in here talking about "how the game could have looked if it was a PS4 exclusive" without failing to realize and/or mention that the game is being made on PS3 and 360 too. Funny but expected.
I guess that makes a bit more sense then. I haven't played Destiny yet since I thought I'd wait for the full game. And to be fair to Destiny, my point wasn't really about that game specifically but a lot of other games where detail is hidden by unnecessary effects.
It's not that I advocate realism either. I mean one of the main reasons I like Halo and look forward to this is the fact that they are stylised and fantastical. I can look at spells, and weird sci-fi and supernatural effects all the time, but a lens flare or chromatic aberration always breaks whatever immersion i had built up

pretty sure when people say that they mean the PS3 and 360 versions wouldn't exist either
