First teaser poster for The Last of Us movie revealed

First time I'm slightly interested in a movie based on a game. I also support Hugh Jackman for Joel. As for Ellie.. honestly I have no idea.

So... Bruce Campbell...

This is Joel, apparently.

Bruce one too many Campbell's soup

If Sam Raimi can hit the kinda cheeseball/kinda dramatic tone that Spiderman 1 and 2 did, it'll be the only way I can tolerate this film.

But really, this news breaks my heart. Now I know how people feel about not wanting a TLOU 2.

A part of me wants to watch the movie first then play the game for the first time. The rational part of me says to stop being weird and just pick up the remastered version and then watch the movie after because it's probably a couple years away.

Ellie looks about 25 there. She is supposed to be a kid. That is the damn point of the story. She is Joel's surrogate daughter.

Who says Ellie must be 14 years old in this movie?

I would say use new characters but similar themes. Say gender reversed?
But then why even call it The Last Of Us or associate with the game

Who says Ellie must be 14 years old in this movie?

Because that's the point of her character? Innocent child thrown into the awful reality of a destroyed world?
The realization from the audience that a cruel world has desensitized her to violence and she is comfortable/nonchalant with taking a life?
Ellie is pretty badly screwed up and then she is expected to give her life for the greater good, a decision no one even takes her opinion on
Also the fact that she is kind of a death seeker and waiting to join her friend Riley in the afterlife

All that at 14 fucking years old, shit's depressing yo!

Yea she looks 20+ in that poster.

Hope this comes out well but don't see how it can be better than the game.

Ew @ Hugh Jackman. Anyone with that style of facial hair will look similar, they don't actually look the same.

The Joel will need to prove himself, but nice Ellie casting.

Some of these suggestions have me scratching my head. You guys are missing the obvious choice for Joel here.

God, I hope you realize I'm joking.

No, he's not.

A trailer was just shown at San Diego Comic Con that has announced further details for the upcoming The Last of Us film adaption. The project will be headed up by Sam Raimi of Spider-man/Evil Dead fame and star Bruce Campbell and Maisie Williams. Williams has been in talks to portray Ellie, with Campbell’s position being unconfirmed, although Neil Druckmann has stated he likes him for Joel. - See more at: http://www.hardcoregamer.com/2014/0...s-film-adaptation/95769/#sthash.AaUs6Q5P.dpuf

Not confirmed, but likely at this point. I've edited my comment, the other website reporting had said we was. I guess they were getting ahead of themselves.

Whoa @ the Hugh Jackman example. He'd be perfect and he's such a damn good actor, and even nicer guy. I fucking love Huge Jackman. He's like a legit nice guy in hollywood.

I already saw The Road. No thanks.

EDIT: WHOA, whoa: Bruce Campbell?! Sam Raimi?

...might have to watch it anyway. (I don't think for a second it will be any good, but who knows?)

EDIT 2: lolz nm

So much confusion in this thread. Looks like everybody missed the link to the liveblog that I posted earlier. Okay I made a recap of comingsoon.net's liveblog. This should hopefully clear up some questions.

- Neil and Bruce got two pitches, one from Clint Culpepper at Screen Gems and one from Sam Raimi
- Neil said when they met with Sam he "really got it"
- They got greenlight from Screen Gems to write the film themselves: Neil's writing the script for the movie
- Movie won't come out for a couple of years
- They expect it to be very true to the game, but they have to make changes to make a 15 hour game fit into a movie
- They talked about a different ending among various changes
- The movie will focus on the relationship between Joel and Ellie
- Answering a question, they say they might use elements from the Left Behind DLC
- Maisie Williams is being considered for Ellie
- Bruce Campbell sorta brought up as a joke, someone suggests him for David (NOT casted for Joel)
- Neil thinks the "ambush" would make for a great scene in the movie
- They're creating new scenes to glue some of their favourite game scenes together
- Neil doesn't want to the movie to be a poor imitation of the game, thinks it's good to have strong actors who bring their own interpretation to the characters
- Sam said he won't be directing, Neil will be in charge of selecting director

If you wanna read more, go to the source.

Yes he is

LOL, nice.

Is it confirmed the movie will be about Ellie and Joel? Because that's story has been told already and was written to set-up combat scenarios. That would make for a movie about as horrible as an American remake of some European indie flick.

In theory this movie has great potential. After all, this will be the first video-game based movie to truly adapt a great story told in a game AND the actual creators are involved too. I think the biggest problem with previous game-to-movie adaptations was that they either had bad stories to begin with and/or their settings and characters were only used to create cheap action/horror flicks.

As long as they don't go out of their way to ruin what is already there it should at the very least be decent.

A few years? Chances are Maise won't look the same by then.

Neil can't just choose director. He could then he would pick someone like the Coen Brothers which would be a dream of mine as well but it won't happen.
