First teaser poster for The Last of Us movie revealed

Calling it now - this is going to be another hollow adaptation, if it even gets made. I'd bet even money on them announcing a new writer in a year, then another, then radio silence afterwards.

If I wanted to watch the road, I would watch the road.

If I wanted to watch Indiana Jones, I would watch Indiana Jones.

Uncharted and Last of Us are games inspired by movies. The fact they are games is what makes them have their identity.

Whats the point in making a movie for games inspired by movies?

Looking forward to the game that is inspired by Last of us the movie

Honestly, this is pretty stupid accusation, since movies are constantly inspired by, well, movies. And most books are inspired by other books.

While I agree that both The Last of Us and Uncharted are unique becasue they are games, concieved as games and they push storytelling forward as games. But, having said that, The Last of Us tells a different story than The Road, about different things. Especially concerning the ending, which puts the entire storyline in different light and sets it miles apart from themes that were touched upon in The Road. And I really do think, that The Last of Us' would work as a movie. Because it is a bloody brilliant story, in itself. And it is told in a very movie-like way, even though gameplay is a very important device, through which it is told.

Well, my point is, that, if those will be good movies, why not make them?

What if they made it a love story??? No thanks!

Well, both The Last of Us and The Road are basically love stories. Just not your typical, boy likes girl (or boy likes boy/girl likes girl) love story, but a father/child love story.

PS: Hugh Jackman would made a fucking AMAZING Joel. Especially seeing his role in Prisoners.

I still think Josh Brolin (at least when talking about known actors) is the only choice for Joel.

Josh Brolin would be an awesome choice as well, but I think Hugh Jackman is just wonderful at playing poeple that are fierce and harsh and loving and fragile at the same time, from what I've seen from him.

Completely unnecessary, out of all games its hard to pick one that would be less appropriate than this one. Creating a movie set in the same universe would be cool, but trying to recreate Ellie and Joel is completely undesirable to me, specially so soon after the game.

The story is good for a video game, there is nothing it has to offer that other movies haven't already done, mainly those that directly influenced TLoU. The same goes for Uncharted. I say that as someone who really like the games and values what ND has done, I think they are doing themselves a disservice.

People think the Silent Hill movie was good.

That's why this will become a movie. Not because it needs to be, not because it can/will do anything better than the game (or the superior works that inspired it), but because it will make money with undiscerning people who have low expectations.

You fans who are holding out hope? Give it up, for your own sake. I read for so long how everyone involved with the Silent Hill movie was a huge fan of the series, cared so much about respecting it but also about making a film that would stand on its own. Everyone was saying and doing the right things, or as close to right as a film adaptation of a game could ever get things right.

Then the movie came out.

There is no way a movie made from game scenes will be any good. Just forget it. This is being made to make money off the fans. That's all these projects ever turn out to be.

Different thing being here that actually people from Naughty Dog and Sony are involved into movie-making process. Isn't Neil Druckmann himslef said to write the screenplay?

I think the people that bring up the Road movie give it too much credit. The novel is likely more of an inspiration. The Road movie, while it did okay, was met with mostly "good but not great" sort of reactions. By most accounts Naughty Dog started the Last of Us before the Road movie even hit theatres.

Because by the time this is actually made, she'll be too old for the role?

/devil's advocate

Might technically be too old but that hasn't stopped filmmakers in the past (see every kid role on the show she's on). As long as she doesn't have a huge growth spurt she could very easily still play her over the next couple of years.

Come to think of it, you might be entirely right.

Also, the visual esthetic of game is completely different from The Road. TLoU is filled with green, sun, bright colors, whereas The Road was based entirely on the greyness, dust, dirt and decay of all living things.

Its the Road book, mate.

Like Lego: The Movie: The Videogame situation, or even the Battleship one (this one I always thought it was funny - a board game that gets a movie then the movie gets a game, which is a FPS).

Ellen page as Ellie would be amazing.

Ellen Page is a great actress and,for many reasons, a great fit for the role.

Honestly, I think Naughty Dog should have just made a CGI movie instead.Starring the same artists behind the game.
