Nintendo reveals the "New Nintendo 3DS" and "New Nintendo 3DS LL"

I think it's stupid not to release this this year considering that there are many people (like me) who were planning to get a regular 3ds for Smash and Pokèmon but with this I rather wait.

Damn you, Nintendo.

I find this far more confusing.

How so? I feel that the "i" brand is prevalent enough that people know what it is, yet the 3DS is well known enough by this point that the "3DS/DS" fiasco won't be repeated at this point.

Even in normal conversation, the name is awful since "new" is just a normal adjective that could easily apply to a system. "Hey bro, did you get a new 3DS?"
"Yeah I just picked one up from amazon a few days ago."
"You get any faceplates for it?"
"Wait what?"
"The New 3DS has a feature where you can get a different faceplate for the shell"
"Er, "the" new 3DS? What do you mean the new 3DS. You just asked if I got a new one. What is the name of the new 3DS."
"New 3DS"
"Yes that's what I said"
...

You really think that they will make a new 3DS revision after this one or that the new generation handheld will be even called "3DS"?

I was poking fun and joking but are you really asking me that question seriously, especially with Nintendos shitty recent history of naming things? LOL

Nintendo makes names up just to be different, its like they are completely adverse to normal naming behavior regardless of success or not.

They could have had Nintendo DS, Nintendo DS2, Nintendo DS3 so on and so forth. And yes that might be boring but DS is Dual Screen, I know exactly what it is and the number is the generation of the platform.

Is that how the wide view 3D thing works? Interesting.

Yes, the camera is apparently tracking your eyes. This in conjuction with the Gyro Sensors (and probably an improved, flexible paralax barrier) will apparently be enough to let you view 3DS from a much wider angle.

To be honest, I don't quite believe it :D Need to see it with my own eyes first.

Nintendo trolling Xbox gamepad users hard with the colored buttons.

emmm..

IMPORTANT QUESTION PLEASE READ

I have a 3DSXL. Does this mean if I buy a N3DSXL that I can link both to my eShop library? Or is system transfer the only way?

Lots of retail stores like Gamestop will allow you to do the system transfer in store while trading in your previous handheld for the new one. But you can't trade in before hand, have to wait till day of to do it.

The whole "New" thing is pretty stupid. I guess it makes sense to have it named that initially since it is will be the newest 3DS revision. But a few years down the line it'll be no longer new. It doesn't take a genius to realize that.

Super 3DS and Super 3DS XL would have been way better names! Especially since those classic button colors are making a come back.

"New 3DS"
"Yes that's what I said"
...

As you inadvertently pointed out, the naming (and the price) indicate that the original models will be quickly discontinued.

Thanks for the responses guys.

I just realized they moved the headset jack back to the center. Nice.

I'm pretty sure you'll have to do a system transfer. They don't want people putting 8 copies of their games across 8 systems.

even if ur account is linked system transfer is still required.
God damn it. What's the point of linking all those systems then?

Club Nintendo is a different thing from the NNiD.
I set up my eShop account without an NNID so I thought I could do the same for another. Eeeeehhh

That's nice but I don't really want to give up my XL. I know lots of mobile users do that but not me.

Yeah its kind of shitty but you can't expect them to let you just put all your games on any 3DS. You could load up your friends 3DS's with all your games and let them have at it if they didn't have a procedure in place like this. Its definitely not ideal but with Nintys current architecture its how they do.

you can... but you have only two ways to do it:

A) System Transfer
B) Nintendo customer service assistance to unlink and relink your NNiD (and it's a fucking pain in the ass)
I'm not even 100% sure that it's actually possible to do that on a 3DS

Wow. I still have my OG 3DS Ocarina of Time 3DS, and I've been looking for a good reason to upgrade to an XL. That all white N3DS XL looks great

This feels so surreal. I didn't think Nintendo would pull a "DSi" since the 3DS is upgradable and it has its own digital titles. And then there's Xenoblade on this thing. What the fuck?

Might go for the regular size this time, it looks really pretty, I love the DSi style it's going for and those plates. As long as it doesn't scratch itself. Really disappointed it's still 240p but I'll deal with it. And please let the buttons be clicky.

What would the "i" stand for? For the DSi it would stand for "eye" because it had a new camera and it made sense in that context.

3DS+ sounds like a really minor upgrade and that is not what Nintendo wants to market this revision as.

And someone will propose another name and you'll spin it negatively again, New 3DS will confuse people further, Wii U was an example of that and Nintendo should have learned.
Heck, I'm pretty sure most people relate lite to something that means lesser and lighter (App Store), that didn't stop Nintendo from calling the improved DS lite that way.

I saw this Q and A and I was confused at what it meant by this:
Q: Will you be able to move specific data from the SD card like software or save data?
A: No, you won’t be able to.
Q: Can you transfer software data from the Nintendo 3DS/3DS XL?
A: Data can be transferred from the Nintendo 3DS/3DS XL to the New Nintendo 3DS/New 3DS XL.

Man, I love his comic's and he's super fast as always, but I think I didn't get it this time... ^-^;

I believe he's saying now that the Wii U has finally come to its own not needing to rely on the Wii anymore, the "new" 3DS has usurped that good will and doomed it.

Once Gamestop has a 50% trade in my 3ds xl is gone, also for some odd reason I have extra copies of both diamond and pearl which gamestop gives 17 for (I know its a rip off but they are extra copies I don't need). Stacking all that plus the 50%" new 3ds" is funded.
