Dead Rising 3 PC Performance Thread

This game has the same negative mouse acceleration that was in Resident Evil 4 Ultimate HD and Resident Evil: Revelations (that was eventually fixed). I don't understand why they keep making this same mistake, although I guess with Capcom Vancouver doing the port and not QLOC it's not exactly the same people.

I'm getting really sick of the first driving segment. It crashes shortly before I get to the objective. Every fucking time.

And the worst part is the game is timed, so everytime the game crashes in that section you have to start all the way back at the safehouse with less minutes (assuming you saved the game)

I think the game might have memory leak.
Like the first 10 or so minutes I boot the game up it runs very smoothly, almost perfectly consistent 30 fps then it starts to tank and fluctuate over nothing ( indoors even)

YMMV, but rolling back to Nvidia 335.23 drivers fixed the crash bug during the driving segment for me.

I kept goofing around for another half an hour in the city and the game seemed solid. Executable did die after I alt+f4 tho :p

Sounds like an awful port.

Went from a 'probably not' to a proper 'nope'.

Alright so I put about an hour and half into it.

Rocking a GTX680, i7 3770K, and 8GB VRAM.

I set the resolution to 1080p, kept everything at High, only turned off Depth of Field and Motion Blur.

Solidly 30FPS throughout, though during cutscenes it dips to the lower 20s. I'm happy with it, although it runs so hot.
With how the game looks, those specs and having to turn down settings to get a mere 30fps, I would be so far from happy.

maybe tomorrow it rains

Wait, for real? This is horseshit. I'm going back to Marvel Heroes.

apparently I'm not on the latest Nvidia drivers and that might be why I'm getting better performance.. some of you guys might wanna try to revert back

Maybe it's my controller, but I can't keep the item select menu or stay aimed down sight even while holding down the button.

No crashes, framerate average is in the 70s with lows in the 50s and highs in the 90s.

780ti,
i5 3570k
@1080p

CPU is stock, the GPU should be a bit overclocked.

I experienced the same. Not sure how a memory leak is indicated but I noticed that the RAM usage of the game is well over 8 GB while playing and on other YT footage with OSD I watched, it's about the same (6-7,5GB).

I already tried rolling back and it did nothing to solve my crashing issue. The game crashes randomly while I play every 5-15mins. Makes playing impossible.

Still crashing with the lock, can't seem to finish the motorcycle battle in time :/

Guess I'll finish Last Light redux and hope it's finished soon, really love this game.

Edit: And while at first I thought the nvidia inspector half refresh was working perfectly, now I'm noticing that there still seems to be a lot of screentearing. Rather gross!

I was going to roll back the driver to 335.23, but disabling "secure boot" in Windows 8.1 did the trick for me. No more crashes ever since... *knocks on wood*

Not really....

On normal mode the game autosaves anytime you do anything and the timer is purely aesthetics. Nightmare mode is probably a bitch though atm unless you roll back your drivers, which seems to be the culprit here according to capcom.

Memory leak sounds likely too. Anyone try playing with the lock to see if it gets rid of the crashing?

Expectedly, it doesn't run too well at 4k, even on a 780 (under 20 FPS):

That's the first game I know of to destroy a 780 that much at 4k; perhaps it's a bit too optimistic to expect comfortable gaming at 4k within 1-2 years (unless it can just be attributed to the game originally be targeted for 720p 30 FPS on a modern GPU)?

Given it only runs at 720p30 on the XB1 (and IIRC dips below that sometimes, though I could be wrong), maybe its not just a bad port, its a badly coded game to begin with.

Isn't a memory leak, that's just the game :p. TB had it on a titan at 720p and he still couldn't get a smooth 60. Fair to say, this is a shit-tastic port.

If the timer is purely aesthetics then what is Ending F?

Damn this game is fun. Feels good to be back in the DR universe. Did a 3 hour session, no crashes so far. Maybe people should also check their CPU OC? Some games are sensible to unstable OCs....

I've had the same CPU OC for nearly two years now. I doubt that's an issue. :p

I think the game just has some issues that haven't been ironed out. There isn't any rhyme or reason to the random crashes I'm getting.

Played for a while and had no crashes but it certainly doesn't run great. Playable enough for me though.

that's a good point since some of the random lock ups I was getting in this (literally seconds stuck on a single frame.. like a mini freeze) I also had in watch dogs

might have issues with my OC. .. tho I've had it for years and these are the only 2 games I've had this happen

Good point. Heard somebody else talking about how the game runs the same for them no matter what resolution, so possibly extremely CPU-bound, which wouldn't be surprising with the amount of enemies on-screen at times and the general open-world nature of the game.

Soooooo.......who has tried downsampling this baby? If it aint gonna run higher than 30fps very well, maybe it can at least look nice and clean?

Are you kidding? The visual impact is absolutely massive. It looks dramatically better with it enabled.

Hmm, looking forward to some comparisons but I prefer non-slideshow cutscenes. Didn't seem that huge to me but it might be massive side by side.

Alright, performance report.

My PC
2500k @ 4,2GHz
GTX 770 @ stock
12 GB ram
Installed on SSD

Load times are reasonably fast. Loading when starting up the game is sub 10 sec, and just a little longer when loading up a save. When I rolled back to nvidia 337.88 drivers the crashes I had seemed to stopped, but I never had a crash when exiting the game.

Framrate seems to be around 40-45 at max settings and framerate unlocked. I'm gonna play a bit more tomorrow to see if it's completely crash free.

Aside from the lazy developing (capping), A friend of mine, who has pre-ordered, gets the game crashed after the first loading, and this seems to be common (after searching on Steam Forums) on ALL NVIDIA LAPTOP SPECS !

How big of a screw up, if the game stops working with any Nvidia (most common laptop gpu brand) Laptops...

This is just ...

Has this ever happened before ?!

IGN gave it a .3, so that's not surprising.

…but in all seriousness, if we're talking about Capcom PC ports not being satisfactory, I never heard people having problems with SF4 or Resident Evil Revelaitons. Maybe it's just a Dead Rising thing? Sucks that it's basically only worth playing on Xbox One if it's this way.

Not surprised at a crashy Capcom PC game.

Also, the game melts an Xbox One. Not sure why you'd expect a laptop to handle it.

But its not even about running the game or not...it just crashes (DR3 Stoped working)...His Intel graphics can actually run the game (at extremely low fps of course), but it doesnt crash, only with the Nvidia.

I dont think a game release was ever so bad, that it wouldnt work in such a huge amount of setups.

Is it wrong that I just assumed it would be a shitty port? I mean, I was so excited when the game launched but I didn't have an XBO (Still don't ). When it was announced for PC, I wanted a serviceable port- I figured if the translation wasn't handled by Nixxes, I was fearing the worst.

It's certainly not a great looking game, but it's pretty astounding as to how many zombies can be on screen at once. And after seeing the framerate instability on the console DF breakdown, I just hoped it wouldn't fluctuate. It doesn't during gameplay, but it tanks in cutscenes :/

I wanted 60FPS, but truthfully I've grown accustomed to these unoptimized ports for open world games on PC. I've played every AC game locked at 30, with visuals on the highest settings. I watched the Twitch live streams of this played at 720p, and thought something was up.

If anything it feels like a step back from the PC port of DR2- that ran flawlessly at 60FPS, but was plagued with GFWL.

It was a mess for me on Xbox One. I got about 30 minutes into it and the textures stopped loading, I fell through the world and could not even load the game back from where I saved. I might try it again down the road, as what I played was fun. That was just a huge turn off for me.
