What's the deal with GM?

Safe and worth upgrading your only phone? Any downside? Can you update automatically when it's releases officially?

The GM is, barring any last-minute unforeseen changes, the build they plan on releasing to the public.

Feld & Volk front panel photos/videos showed much tighter space around the home button than this new leak shows. Has anyone commented on that?

I don't think you can. I think I had this problem last year and the GM is still on the dev channel.
GM is ready for release. It's release channel, given to developers early (with caveats).

You probably did something wrong or you tried to update the GM to the public release but couldn't, because they're identical.

Sorry it's taken me so long to finish up the rumors section. Just took care of the iWatch rumors and I'm working on iPhone 6 rumors now. Will add liveblog links as I find them.

I don't know but the Russian video that was released almost a week ago shows an iPhone 6 that looks identical to today's Chinese leak.

At this point I would be surprised if what they show on Tuesday looks any different at all.

The bands don't look ugly at all. I think everybody in here saying so is crazy. In pretty much every way it looks better than previous iPhones.

I've always thought the white/silver iPhones looked the best but this year seems like a space gray will look incredible. Might go with that one.

I can't believe I'm saying this but the new Samsung phones actually look better than the new iPhones.

Especially the white/grey iPhone 6. The black version looks pretty cool.

I honestly cannot wait no more, whichever model comes out first is the one I am going to get. By the looks of it the 4.7 128gb Iphone 6 will be mine very soon!

Even without a case, why would people care about a line on the back of their phone? What a non-issue.

That's kind of like asking why someone would care about a big scar going across their face when they can cover it up with make up. It sticks out and is ugly. There is no symmetry to the lines, they simply mimic the back design of the 5 for no reason. I would have been fine if they went around the entire edge of the back rather than breaking up the phone for no reason.

I'm all for dick riding Apple, but the antenna is fucking ugly and does not deserve praise or to be passed off as a non issue. Apple sacrificed form over function, which is very un-Apple like.

No, it's nothing like that. The majority of people I see use a case of some sort and it's on the back of your phone where you're normally not looking.

A better analogy would be 'That's kind of like asking why someone would care about a scar going across the back of their head that's usually covered by hair and a hat'

It's not about dickriding it's about people overreacting to two lines on a part of the phone they rarely interact with / look at.

i don't get why people say its ugly, i thought everyone loved how the HTC One looked?
HTC one is great. The lines don't break up the phone on the htc one, they are simply two straight lines and they add symmetry to the back. What I hate is the loop around the top and bottom, looks terrible.

here’s the thing. it’s Apple. they are known for pushing industrial design and flaunting their attention to detail. the whole, “the backs of our notebooks look beet than the fronts of the other guys,” bit

The look is not a non-issue. we may disagree about how it looks (that’s fine) but if a lot of people thinks it looks bad, then that’s something to talk about. and saying that people put it in a case is not a really satisfactory rebuttal.

Those break lines are not a great implementation. their thickness, color, glossiness (or lack of it), all looks kinda bad. a step down in aesthetics from the last two designs. Dismissing that it looks bad but doesn’t matter because we put a case on it is giving Apple a pass that they have not, historically, given themselves.

@NYR. good post. the details of those bands make a big difference. I prefer that straight line on the HTC, too. those bends on the 6 looks awkward.

God I hope Apple sides with reason and this iWatch looks like a watch first....not some nano that I'm trying to wear around my wrist.

Hopefully I can resist getting the 4.7" for a month then

Honestly, won't be surprised if it's not until November. I've wanted the 5.5 inch, but I actually don't have a phone at the moment. And so I really can't wait that long. It really sucks. Good luck though in holding out. I really wish Apple would have been able to launch the 5.5 with the 4.7. =/

I wouldn't say this in an Android thread because I can't be bothered starting a flame war, but I personally think the 'customisation' benefits are so overrated. Outside of a minor subset of uses who really make use of the customisation options, most talk it up as the killer feature when they are asked 'why do you like Samsung's' and then, in the two year life of the phone, won't even change their fucking ringtone.

That said, not much liking the look of the 6. Looks surprisingly drab.

I think it's a non-issue because of how many people complained about the antenna lines on the iPhone 4 when it was being shown. How many people cared after day 1? If I see people complaining about these back lines in two weeks (after they forget about their existence) then I'll agree.

i'm still holding out hope that the ugly lines are just placeholders and the iphones that will be shipping will have some new special material or process or something to make them look good

don't let me down, apple

they going to let me down, aren't they?

Not a fan of the look, if that's the real deal...but then I remembered the faux snakeskin back of my Note 3 and realize I should trust Apple a bit more on these things.

hmm. I see your point. I think these new lines are more noticeable and look worse but it is true that the complaints of the look of those old black breaks on the 4 died down fast.

And then Apple made those bands in the steel iPhones symmetrical in the 4S (got rid of top surface break) and improved the look, imo. :)
