Bro, you have to get that guy a robot's head for some reason so his sister will give you a key or something.

And then you fight a series of statues and save the Traveler. Remember the Traveler?

I actually feel like Venus is a lot stronger plotwise than the Moon or Earth, at least thus far (not done with it yet).

This game takes the worst of Mass Effect and all of Too Human, poorly copies Borderlands, and then creates one of the biggest gaming let downs I've ever seen.

I loathe it.

My opinion thus far.

So far I am level 15. Having an absolute blast with the game. Story so far is crap in its delivery, reading the lore online and through grimoire cards is more enjoyable than what I have seen in the game so far. *sigh* Having great storytelling in this game could have made it better but the lack of it does not hinder my enjoyment while physically playing it.

The missions, while they are repetitive are fucking fun as hell. Im always playing with a buddy and its some damn addictive fun.

For me the fun is in blasting fools in the face as much as possible, the fact that the thing that makes this game feel repetitive is that you are just constantly mowing down enemies here and then going there to blast more enemies in the face is a plus for me, its just so damn satisfying here.

It seems like a lack of weapon variety but I love the fact that you really feel the difference in each type of gun as you level it up, a gun at level 4 feels nothing like the same gun at level 10, the progression is really noticable.

Its also gorgeous, just gorgeous.

PVP is a blast.

Bungie has a fantastic foundation here and if they continue to expand and improve on its shortcomings, it will one day achieve true greatness.

Fix the story telling, add more mission variety, let us fly the damn ships!, and just keep listening to fan feedback and building on what you have and this will go from a solid fun new IP to a real masterpiece.

I like some of the stuff I'm hearing about this game but it being a pain in the ass to group up with randoms would kill it for me. If they ever get that sorted then I'll probably jump in.

Well, shit, Pons and I had a fucking blast tonight. If you're in Destiny Gaf there should be no shortage of people to play with. Loved the alpha, loved the beta, love the retail game.

It's a great podcast game. Right up there with Minecraft.

I see, thanks. Halo 1 has a simple but very clear story that gives context to everything you see and do. I found it really engaging, which is part of the reason Halo turned me on to FPSs in the first place. Shooting alone isn't enough to keep me interested, so I guess I'll wait and see how the expansions turn out. I want to find out more about the Traveler because it's the only thing I've seen in Destiny that has the vast scale and sense of mystery that grabbed me in Halo. All those crazy Forerunner constructs, including the Halo installation itself. Love that stuff.

Yeah, I think the first Halo did this stuff very well and Destiny doesn't come close in that respect. My problem with the Halo sequels was they took away the sense of mystery/intrigue and I didn't find the explanations satisfying. Kind of like Matrix syndrome for me. The Destiny universe has potential... but the execution here is definitely lacking.

Is there a system in place to meet pubs and set up Fireteams for co-op or is it entirely up to ourselves to do that?

Fwiw I like the game so far but it's not perfect.

Ugh. You're making me depressed. They built up the story/world and there is no payoff?

Not at all, one of the biggest faults of the game. Bungie had a terrible excuse as well, basically saying that we wouldn't be able to beat stuff cause it is "so hard it will take you six hours." Well guess fucking what Bungie, it works even worse than that when I have fucking no one. Bungie has really dropped the ball on community feedback and interaction with Destiny I feel, which saddens me.

All the complaints about not being able to group up i do not get at all. If im out wandering around and i see someone doing the same stuff i am i just hit L3 and options and then invite them to a fireteam. All of a sudden i have voicechat with them (if they have mics) and we group up and take shit down. Its a ton of fun.

So Bungie.

Damn, I remember getting those visions of some blue chick talking to me in dreams in Halo...who? What? Whatever, just tell me who I need to kill next.

I predict 7-8, and I feel that is a fair score.

A great new IP, but coming from a developer with such a pedigree as Bungie, there is just some stuff which I feel are really stupid, amateur mistakes that bring it down.

1. No matchmaking in story mode
-Seriously, why not? Going solo penalizes you (darkness zone), and for such a game like this that values teammates, forcing you to try and find friends to play your level 6 story mode is not fun. Nobody on your friends list wants to waste their time with that.
Dumb, dumb oversight. Needs more common sense.

2. No communication in the tower
-Really, Bungie? Really??? I might as well be walking into a ghost town of dancing ghosts. Seriously, whats the point? No text chat? Would be a great place to pick up fireteam members or just shoot the shit. No mics either? Seriously, WHAT THE FUCK. I posted this TWICE on their forums. Once in the Alpha and once in the Beta. Whatever.

3. No mic support in the crucible.
-Yeah, can't talk to players on your team! Great idea!! Awesome!! Jesus......

4. Explore mode.
-Another god damn ghost town. You'll get a spattering of people here and there, but people seem more interested in doing their own shit. Also, there is nothing to do here. I honestly feel no reason to explore. Whats the point?

5. Grinding
-To do that strike, I had to play the array mission 4 times just to get to level 8. And even then, that strike is more tedious than anything. That spider boss is literally the worst. Just boring as all hell.

Anyways, great gunplay, haven't finished the story, but it seems like crap from what I've read. Dunno, expected more from Bungie to be honest. The kind of game that you play for 1 hour and you can rattle off a million things wrong with it.

Reading all of that I dunno how you can rate it 8 out of 10, that list is full of fucking annoying problems, some of them sound pretty severe fuckups too

There's 1 raid, Vault of Glass. You'll have to do a ritual to bring in players to your friends list and fire team so you can unlock the power of communication.

Once you do so, you can choose normal or hard. You'll encounter a variety of challenges that are left up to you to figure out, from platforming to puzzles to bosses. You get no direction in how to complete these, so you have to communicate and strategize to figure it out yourselves.

If you succeed, you get a unique armor piece and/or weapon. Can keep doing the raid to complete the armor sets and obtain each weapon (one for each type).

It isn't unlocked yet and will do so on the 16th, so the only word we've received is from Bungie themselves.

Ok, thanks for the clarification!

So what exactly is the endgame in destiny then? After I finished the story missions, and did the 4? Strikes, there is only one Raid that will likely (hopefully) take 1-2 hours? So there basically is no endgame content whatsoever yet?

Not to mention if you're playing solo in a mission or story or whatever, and see anyone similarly levelled, or hit option and see other people playing that you want to play with, just click their name and invite them to your fire team and bobs your uncle, done. Very easy to team up with people, even people you've never met.

Man, this thread eerily reminds me of the Titanfall thread. Both games had immense hype to live up to and back it up with solid gameplay, but the content is a little thin.

Hopefully Bungie listens to the feedback and builds on the game. I don't have any interest in the game right now as I would care more about the SP portion which doesn't sound too hot, but maybe down the road if Bungie improves it.

Sites giving this 9+ shouldn't be taken seriously IMHO. It is very clearly a mediocre game in the eyes of most gamers.

Well played Activision... Well played.

Don't know if that's sarcasm or just selective perception. Maybe if you play only it's not really that great, but as a coop game (and that is what it wants to be) it's fantastic.
There're not many who play this game with other people and don't like it.

It's just like with MMOs. These are also boring if you play alone and it doesn't even really make sense to do so.

I wonder how it is selling despite any reviews. My guess is COD levels or better.

You know something is up when the publisher only tells shipping numbers after one day instead of actual sell through numbers. If they had sold them all there would've been a PR report to convey that success. It obviously sold less than the 8 million units shipped and probably a lot less. No reviews can't have helped. I'm expecting at best four million units lifetime sales.

lol

I'm seeing one trend with the love fest. "I'm playing with my bud" or "I'm playing with my buds". This seems to be mostly a "friends required" game. And I think a lot of the negatively stems from the fact that there's very few methods to be able to play with randoms in story or exploration modes. It's easier to join in with randoms in a game of BL2 than it is in this game. So if you don't have your previously set group of friends to play through Destiny with, then the game is "meh".

There is some endgame, but it's basically reusing content (strikes, story missions) and making it harder.

Titanfall is a very solid game whereas Destiny is not. The amount of oversights in Destiny reaches crazy amounts, like why is there almost no interaction with other players (voice, chat, etc.) when the game is online only? Why the fuck is there no matchmaking for the missions?

Is there even a reason for it to be online only when the online features are useless?

How do you review a game of this size in two/three days?

Any outlet with a review out should be blacklisted because theyre just fishing for clicks/traffic. Simple as that. Destiny might not be perfect but I dont know how a rushed review holds any weight.

edit: has nothing to do with defending the game. I just think its disgusting.

I've noticed that new AAA franchises still get scrutinized a little more than established ones. The first Assassin's Creed and even Watch Dogs were subject to this. It's once they gathered fan bases that criticism became off-limits.

The first Assassin's Creed was super-repetitive and overall quite weak, it deserved lower reviews than its successors, it's not an unfair disadvantage for new ip, but for flawed games.

Do any reviews provide a real detailed breakdown of the PvP stuff? I have a feeling, if there's anything that's gonna keep me playing this game it might be the PvP since I haven't found any good MP shooters on the PS4 that have held my attention. If I liked Halo PvP, might I enjoy this?

How is the loot hunt in this game? In beta I hardly ever found any drops. Is it any better in the full game? Loot is what kept me going in PSO, Diablo, Borderlands, etc.

So Bungie.

Damn, I remember getting those visions of some blue chick talking to me in dreams in Halo...who? What? Whatever, just tell me who I need to kill next.

Halo: CE did a great job of making the situation seem hectic and urgent. It wasn't a deep meaningful story, but it at least kept you engaged and had a few twists that changed how the game was played. Halo 2 and 3 were worse, but they at least kept the sense of urgency.

Destiny is like: "Hey bro, you were dead, wake up and kill shit cause Ima robot."

So just play exactly the same in hard, great :/

I thought we made the story/setpiece/presentation tradeoff for a huge world with a lot of content, but apparently we just lost the aforementioned and gained nothing. Why bungie?

So since the game has so little content, for the kind of game it is, how could bungie blow so much money on it?

Just to clarify, I'm having a good (albeit not great) time playing this game, it's just falling short in a lot of aspects I hoped it would excell...

My quick review.

As the game stands, tons of fun just needs more content. If Bungie pulls through on keeping content rolling out with regular updates for strikes and raids, I'll be playing this game for a long time. If they don't continue with this I'll get bored quickly.

One of those games where it's level of greatness will depend a lot on future updates and continued support. I'm optimistic though.

It's pretty good. It's not near as good as Halo. The moment to moment gun play is top notch, but it lacks substance.

A game of this size? Their isn't exactly a ton of content here, and the majority of it is the same formula over and over again

Almost as disgusting as giving out your review copies a day before the game launches. Almost

And when people are beating the game in game and reaching max rrank in 24 hours what else is there left for them to review.

Destiny is like: "Hey bro, you were dead, wake up and kill shit cause Ima robot."

Destiny is like a fifteen hour long Halo library mission after Bungie learnt to do pretty interiors. Kill waves of rushing enemies while robot opens doors. And again. And again. It's like they didn't even care to add more variation.

I'm not really into mmo style games, even if is an FPS, i've tried the beta and i'm not gonna buy this game. But besides my taste, i think this game got too many hype, more than it deserves

THIS! Would be great if I could join someone else on same story quest. Or maybe the one I just did. So I can play with someone.
And it is not easy enough to join in a Fireteam. It should be if I stand next to someone I could just by the push of a button invite him to join me. Remove "Wave" emote, or point and change to "Invite to Fireteam"
"Paertan invites RandomDude to Fireteam" if someone is selected
"Paertan wants to create a Fireteam" if no one is selected.

There is a severe lack of loot early in the game, but it does get a little better later in the game (although the loot variety is also pretty limited). Regardless, it has nowhere near the loot of a Diablo or Borderlands

game is insanely fun

it's a great first entry. is it perfect? no. there's plenty of improvement for the sequels...but I'll be goddamned if it isn't the most fun game I've played in years.

very unique game, and pretty much blending everything I love about sci fi, shooting, multiplayer, RPGs, etc into an extremely compelling package

I only ever played co-op/firefight in Reach with my brother and randoms. Why would I be better off alone if I deliberately enter a mp mode?
*shrug*

I've played a lot of Reach campaign solo and in planned coop groups. I've played some of it with randoms; I haven't found this to be particularly fun compared with the other options. It's very spammy and hectic, and you hardly ever get a good conversation or nice coordination going. And there are various design restraints that have to accommodate the reality of this sort of team lest the MM mode be seen as somewhat dodgy.

When there's a lot of intentionality to the join-up, things usually work out nicely. Otherwise, nope. This is why free chat in the Tower would be hugely beneficial to what Destiny feels like it's trying to be; MM would be awkward for many things, but a more natural structure for join-ups would work gloriously, at least for strikes and story missions (the Raid might still have issues of commitment).

I agree that the current setup is problematic; I don't think MM would actually play very well, and there are alternatives that would work better.
