I'm not sure if he said free, but AJ mentioned PC gamers getting everything at a lesser price when (his words, it's if I think) it drops.

He was making a guess/assumption. The PC version isn't even announced, yet. He's wrong about a few things in the video.

I agree with regards to a PC version. It's not an unreasonable assumption given that the game uses a goddamn cursor interface even though I doubt it'll happen either way.

Or the majority of people are enjoying the game possibly?

I'm not questioning whether people can enjoy it or not, I enjoy rubbish(mediocre) games sometimes as well. They just cant know if its good before they buy it, the reviews say its kind of not that good. And unless I'm missing something the word of mouth doesnt seem to be that great for this either. It just means that marketing wins out over the merit of the actual content.

I'm not saying it won't happen, just that the "free expansion" thing is pure conjecture. There will likely be updates for the game's mechanics and loot system, I'm not expecting much story stuff.

I don't like Angry Joe's angry schtick, but I do think he's 110% on this with his anger included. Bungie basically torpedoed their reputation with me. They were one of the few bigger developers whose output I was automatically interested in and felt confident in believing in their promises with new games as they've never really disappointed until now...and, man, have they ever disappointed. It's one thing to fail to deliver upon statements made in the runup to release, but it's another to ship a mediocre game. The more I played Destiny, the more I grew to dislike it. Wish I hadn't extended them so much trust when I purchased the digital guardian edition with DLC, but now all I can do is wait for it to hopefully fix the bullshit they shipped the game out with. For a ten-year endeavor that includes planned sequels and DLC for all, they certainly don't inspire any confidence with their maiden voyage. Game is sorta fun for PvP as palate cleanser in between other games, but it doesn't even feel well-designed and substantial enough to work for long even in that limited capacity.

the game has grown on me in a big way, but the lack of good storytelling is a still a flaw that bothers me. fuck grimoire cards, put that shit in the game itself!

X10000000000000

Forcing me to go into a browser to flesh out the universe ( which it still does a shitty job ) is incredibly frustrating.

Man, this is so difficult for me. I want to get the PS3 version until I get a PS4, but I just know it's going to be Diablo 3 all over again. Half heartedly play through the story and leave it at that.

All Bungie had to do was to get either the story or the loot right. But they failed on both.

I like the game but the twisted defenses for the endgame grind in the Destiny OT are both laughable and impenetrable. I was told "don't grind" by a person who did nothing but grind for his high-level gear. What?

It's a sunken cost fallacy thing. After you've spent 40 hours doing the same thing over and over, any suggestion that you've been wasting your time is going to be taken... poorly.

Oh no I was just talking to the guy I quoted, I wasn't talking about what Joe said. I imagine if it does come to PC it'd included the DLC already available.

Well to be fair being told "Don't drink" by someone who is an alcoholic probably makes more sense than by someone who never drank

The beginning of that Angry Joe review where he's like, "That's it?" and then opens up the box to see the Expansion Pass (DLC) advertisement slip thing...

That so so so much encapsulates what I feel about Destiny.

I know that "development doesn't work that way" but I'm a consumer not a developer so I don't care how they do it. Just it feels so scummy to me that they're advertising two expensive DLC before the game even released while the game itself feels so bare.

lol yea... that being said though if drinking got you to the same place in life as being sober, only faster... then it may be harder to take that advice seriously.

Everyone's like "don't grind then".. and I'm just feeling like "then do what instead exactly?". I've just recently hit lv20, and there really doesn't seem to be any "good" route to take from here. Every suggestion effectively equals grinding, just grinding a different aspect.

This is how the conversation usually goes:

"I don't really care for the mindless endgame grind/RNG in Destiny"
"It doesn't feel like grinding to me! I love how I've spent my time."
"It's a grind for me. I want to play high-level content but I feel like I'm wasting my time. I hope Bungie fixes it."
"Perhaps this isn't the game for you. Perhaps you should stop playing."
"Oh. What a helpful suggestion to me, the player who spent money on this."

That AJ review was really helpful and seemed to crystalize a lot of points that have been raised here and elsewhere. Destiny seems to do a lot of things well and it's a good platform to build on, but I'm glad I didn't drop $60 on it at launch. 6/10 sounds about right based on his comments. Will buy when it hits half-price.

Edit: Contra AJ, I didn't care much for the PVP in the beta, so the game in its current state doesn't even have that going for it in my book. I was in it for the campaign and strikes all the way.

I'm not sure if I like this game but I play it for about 5 hours a day and before it cane out i was playing games for maybe 2 hours a week max. I guess this is what being a crack addict is like?

The souls series had ZERO in game plot. The "story" was 100% in-game lore given to you by NPC's or item descriptions.

Destiny gives you most of the story on a phone app. It literally tells you to look shit up online if you want to know anything. The laziness of Destiny's story is quite unique and not really comparable to Souls at all.

The path to progress is playing the Crucible over and over again to grind rep and marks to buy your gear. Which is fine if you like PvP, but if you don't, you're kind of stuck.

You are too low level to do the harder strikes, so the alternative is to grind out the normal bounties and loop the same public events over and over again. Or you just sit and farm a cave until you get a set of rares before moving on.

Vangaurd strikes playlist opens up and provides players with Vangaurd rep/marks path to open up. There's also vanguard bounties that rep up quickly.

Honestly, all I'm hearing here can be condensed down to "getting loot requires repetitive actions", which IMHO describes every fucking loot/drop centered game out there. There's little objective difference, and its all subjective.

I guess you either like what they did while teaming up with friends to go loot hunting, or you don't. My exploded friends list since launch says most seem to like it, even the ones complaining.

Play time don't lie.

I was correcting him on the Souls stories, which aren't character driven stories and pure lore. I'm not a fan of the laziness and terribly penned script we got with Destiny, even if the lore shows/ed a heck of a lot of promise. Bungie needs to hire a better story director, one with the balls to scrap something that isn't working and knows how to work with VA's. The dialogue and plotting are absolutely atrocious.

Not sure if serious?

-movement is fast and accurate
-netcode is ace for me (aside from when lizard squad does it's thing)
-more than enough ammo to put down 5 people. Unless you mean magazines, which I can't really take as a serious negetive
-overpowered snipers? really?
-AMAZING maps that make everyone fight for everything and gives you several paths of approach.

Seriously, I don't know what some people play these days...

I can tell you what that guy wasn't playing. Destiny. It's like he didn't even play it...

It would be just like Blizard putting all of the VoiceOver journal entries from diablo 3 onto Battle.net and told you to look it up there instead of ingame.

Playtime, masses play it = good. Okay. I guess Transformers movies are good for similar reasons as well. They're LONG movies that LOTS of people see.

What tripe.

I realized last night that I wish Destiny had less of a story at this point. I was wandering around, and found a back way into the devils lair. At that point, I wished that I had just found it for the first time, and thought about how cool it would have been to pop out of a tunnel system full of level 20 baddies, and find a devil walker guarding a chest or something.

I know it's dumb, but Diablo solves this by just having random maps that you go into each time you load up a new rift instance. That's enough to make it feel less repetitive, even if you begin to recognize some of the rotating maps at some point.
Unfortunately I don't think this can be fixed that readily.

Not for me. It feels entirely the same. Same assets moved around is the same. Gameplay is what keeps me coming back.

People dont watch them over and over they see them once. If you are in the grind and coming back for more it does give weight that you are actually enjoying the game. if i dont like a gane i stop playing it. Average playtime in destiny during the week is 3 hours per session, during the weekend its 4 hours. People are having fun and coming back for more.

I'm of two minds about the game. The shooting is fun. It looks nice. I'll praise those to the heavens.

The systems and ideas that go beyond the shooting and the graphics are irritating, flimsy, or not put-together very well. I feel like I want to bury those deep underground.

It's weird.

For me, it's perfectly accurate.

Boringly level to 20 in a pseudo mmo world where no one can communicate in any fashion and then boringly farm factions and currency until you hit cap each week and then stand and shoot at the same fucking cave as everyone else until next week.

It was an enjoyable 6 until the end game grind killed it dead for me.

I haven't traded in a game in over 10 yeara and i've never returned a game in my life, but Destiny goes back to Amazon this week.

Return Reason: Quality not as expected.
Damn, thats a shame

Yup. Good core with a weird finish. Definitely needs some patches and extra stuff.

The power of marketing. I would guess, not even remotly as much people would care as much about a 76% game, without it, one way or the other.
Has to be. It couldn't possibly be that a lot of people bought the game and are enjoying it. A vocal minority on the Gaf review thread has deemed it shit. Don't they realize this!

I expected to be disappointed so I bought a physical copy. Just sold it on ebay for 43€. Good riddance ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡ °)

Theres a deep feeling a ton of content is lacking or held back for future DLC ... dunno

Ive put in 70 hours on the current content. I feel thats more than my money's worth. If they held some back for future dlc im fine with it. I dont think thats what they did though. I think they held some back to dole it out for events and to try and keep the game fresh over time. I wonder if it occured to them this coyld blow up in their face when people expected more content.

"I could tell you..."

I'm not the biggest Joe fan but he absolutely fucking nails it. Probably the best review of the game I've seen. I can't think of a game that's more of a missed opportunity than Destiny. I'm not sure they cut out content or took shortcuts to make it DLC or if the development was just hell. It feels like they spent years making the engine and visuals then a few months at best making the missions and actual gameplay.

Keeping shit back for public events to be slowly trickled out over time in a game that' simply can't hold most gamers' attention long term during a holiday schedule that is seeing some great games drop, on a platform that doesn't stick with the same game as long (console vs PC), I don't know.

You actually think you deserve your money back after spending that much time with the game?
