New Driveclub gameplay

This is probably the most solid footage I've seen, really great. Still hate that constant advert on the dashboard reminding me what game I'm playing and what car I'm driving.

You mean there is a chance that DC will not have replays? Now I am worried! We need confirmation from Rushy.

There is a chance. I'm hopeful, but there is a chance. I'm already spamming Rushy with questions. Will ask this as well if he doesn't block me! :D

If the trailers really were made from replay footage I don't see why the mode would be cut from the game :S

I don't either. It's just weird that they wouldn't talk about it and hide it from every UI we have seen so far. It's not some megaton surprise worth hiding. May be it's buggy. I don't know. Here's hoping!

It looks better but ones an open world racer and one is not.

Exactly, you can definitely say DC looks visually superior (tho FH2 is plenty beautiful!) but the games are doing different things. Why does The Last of Us look "better" than GTA5? Same applies here (loose comparison of course)

Going by the size of the tracks and the surrounding scenery in DC, the game could easily be an open world game.

Nah, not even close

DC will have replays. What pure racing game doesn't? All the footage with the various camera angles at the wheels and to the side of the car and such could easily be replay angles.

Would be pretty shocking for this not to have replays

In regards to people wondering if replays are in the game: What was the last racing game shipped that DIDN'T include replays? I can't even think of one off the top of my head.
Pretty sure that all of the Motorstorm titles didn't have replays... So wouldn't be too surprised if Driveclub didn't have it either.

Agreed, I kind of get why it wouldn't be in Rivals (if it's not) since that game is just basically a bunch of open world events and not a true track racer.

But to have a pure racing game where you actually have a defined start and finish line and no replays would be bizzare

Whats ps4s wheel support looking like?

Polar-Bears-Tundra-Lodge-6-tundra.jpg

Joking aside, as far as I know, there are two OFFICIALLY supported wheels for the Playstation 4.

The Thrustmaster T80 is already out and retails for roughly $120. It has NO force feedback support.

http://www.thrustmaster.com/products/t80-racing-wheel

The Thrustmaster T300 is (I think) out in Europe, and coming to NA sometime "this fall" (who knows). It goes for $400-$600 (I seriously can't find a real price) and DOES offer force feedback.

http://www.thrustmaster.com/press/t300-rs-first-official-force-feedback-wheel-playstation-4

Other than that, you can consult the Project Cars PS4 wheel list, as I understand the assumption is most or all of those wheels will also work with DC, including the Thrustmaster T500.

Your Logitech wheels like my G27 are all completely useless, happy shopping!

Still not entirely sure I like the look of the handling model here. Seems like it may veer a bit too far to the arcade side for my liking. Glad there's the option of the PS+ demo to try it out before putting any money down, at least, and a cheap upgrade if I do like it.

Also what is it with people wanting to go off road in these threads? Isn't this a track based racer?

The environments are HUGE, and absolutely gorgeous. And they keep using that debug cam to show them off. It'd be kinda weird if people didn't want to explore them.

Well, there's plenty of open world racers featuring a replay function, FH2 being the last example (tho I didn't like how it works judging from the demo, since I always NEED a cpu-controlled replay which shits camera views automatically to give a sense of televised event/more exciting angles... hopefully DC will have something akin to GT's replay system)

But to have a pure racing game where you actually have a defined start and finish line and no replays would be bizzare

Bizarre?! It'd be soul crushing! I can't see that happening honestly.
Of course it won't touch Polyphony's work but who can?

Just rewatched the video and made the mistake of reading the Youtube comments. I won't bother posting such vile excrement in this thread, but just....wow. No words.

you forgot [shocking]

also damn you for making me curious for something that is likely going to piss me off... now I *have* to go there goddamn

i only played the first level of KZ2 and thought it looked very ugly, just played it a few months ago BTW, GOW3 still looks great but i find red dead redemption 360 version, GTAV and uncharted 3 way more impressive.

With KZ2 you have to play Level 2 and onwards, it has fantastic lighting and animations. Red dead redemption is not even in the same league.

Guys, what if the whole go-pro camera simulation thingy mentioned in their branding guidelines is actually the replay mode? Free roaming camera that allows you to film the race after the race! What if they have been hiding it because it's a megaton?! :O

I'm in for disappointment aren't I?

The thing that strikes me, and this is just personal, is how incredibly phenomenal the lighting looks sometimes, and then it can look rather plain as well.

But I've come to realise that it is proof of how good the lighting engine is.

For example, just imagine late afternoon on an autumns day, the light has that soft glow to it. It's my favourite time of year and it's no coincidence that is also when I think the lighting is at its best in Driveclub. Races that happen at that time of day with that soft light just look incredible. It just has this depth to it that feels true.

Whereas, races in the middle of the day with very bright light can look a little sterile, but it really is an accurate representation, as the brightness itself just overloads the scene, you don't get that nice soft saturation. So it looks a bit plain/sterile, but that's how it should look!

No doubt I can't wait to see this on my own tv, but for me I think this is going to be a revelation in the lighting department. The variation in lighting and weather from race to race will really change the way you feel during any race and will add something new to each event, even when you've raced that track a dozen times.

I think we've undervalued how much this variation will bring to the experience.

Damn! Such a beautiful looking racing game. It's bar none in a class of its own in terms of visuals.

The fact that people say it feels/handles like a nicely refined PGR game also makes me super excited as well! And this is a first year PS4 game, holy schmoly!!

Uh Killzone 2 is one of the most CGI styled games on PS3. Looks fantastic.

Those were made with the free camera. Driveclub has no replay mode if that twitch stream was of the finished game.

I loved reading this post! My thoughts exactly man!

I agree. The lighting adds atmosphere and for me that's been the problem with Driveclub for many people. You cannot appreciate these nuances of lighting unless you are personally immersed in the environments. We'd have to 'play' the game and 'feel' the changes happening around us. It's something you can't quantify, it's something you HAVE to experience.

Many people have questioned why Evolution have gone to so much trouble when most of what you see is only ever going to be on the periphery of your view but that's how it works in real life too. It's only when it's not there that you 'feel' there's something missing. Full immersion and a sense of reality can only be achieved by filling the blanks our brains do in real life. We don't really see as much as we think we do. Our brains (or memory) understand the structure of things we see and flesh them out so that our eyes perceive the subtleties. That cannot be achieved in a video game because we scrutinise it far more closely which means developers (in this case Evolution) have got to go beyond what would ordinarily seem practical.

You won't know WHY driveclub feels so good to drive, you'll feel it.

Just pre-ordered for 67 New Zealand dollars, (approx 52 USD) so good to finally see some semblance of price parity in the next-gen/digital age. Hopefully the days of getting ass raped at retail with prices over $100 US are finally over and done with...

On the subject of corridor racing, my preference would be the ability to go off-road, but with the expectation that would quickly degrade/destroy the vehicle and then end the race.

When we have visual fidelity at this level, artificial barriers that you can bounce off and continue racing spoils my personal immersion. Also think this would add to the tension/adrenalin of racing knowing that a missed corner could result in game over...spinning out and drifting off the side of a cliff, impaling yourself on a tree, to me would add to the level of competition in a white knuckle race where you have fought your way to the front of the pack.

LOL, Not going to happen. The only games I feel have been pretty fair is TLOU and Driveclub but one is a remaster that had it's price dropped across all countries and the other is a discount for Ps+ users. If there were the same prices for The Order, BloodBorne, LBP3, then I would be more impressed but the Order is currently going for $100. Others aren't up yet. Better than Non first party games though. They're going for $120 which is nuts.

That said I still don't understand how people can be saying the game looks so-so when every demo, gameplay footage, direct feed or compressed youtube have shown the exact opposite.

Agree with you on that. This is by far the best Killzone game of the franchise, and the most impressive one (one of the most impressive games for PS3 till this date, thanks to its spectacular art style).

This guy gets it. Even games that simply have day/night variations of a map like the MP maps in Destiny makes each time feel different as opposed to this game which will feature full 24 hour cycles. I absolutely adore the look of the game when the sun is close to dawn like in this gif
HiddenSoupyAsiansmallclawedotter.gif
.
Then add to that weather and wow.

I haven't really been this amped up for a racing game since never.

The game looks fantastic. Hopefully, it plays as well as it looks. This will be one of the first titles I pick up when I get my PS4 if impressions are great.

I'm really curious about the origins of the new footage. It seems like official b-roll but no other site has it up. Did they leak it prior to the media blitz that is certain to hit next week? Or did they capture this footage themselves from review copies? In either case, it doesn't seem like what Sony had planned.

Throw in atmospheric conditions and no race will feel the same. I hope we get Northern Lights.
