Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

The problem isn't the res itself, it could be the framerate, AA or other effect.

The problem is that for "parity" they decided to lower some attribute of one version so it just can look as the same as the other.

And, as I said before, I will not buy the X1 version so, for parity reasons, I will not buy the PS4 one either.

Bringing the PS4 down to the X1s level pretty much tells you exactly who's hand was driving that train of thought.

Gabe Newell! I knew it! He paid Ubisoft so that more people consider to buy the PC version? OH wait, it's a UPlay game. *sigh*

Microsoft are desperate beyond belief. This is not how you win consumers. You'll have quite a few more people dancing on the Xbox grave continuing down this path.

How? They're locking it at 30 and making it XBO graphics and resolution. It's like Destiny all over again except this time instead of everyone getting native 1080p, NOBODY is getting 1080p. Except PC which is somehow exempt from their parity bullshit.

PC is exempt from nothing. They have to deal with Uplay and that's worse then a thousand deaths.

They certainly did when they chose to switch to making the lowest common denominator the lead platform...in that case, the PS3.
Come again? Which 3rd party devs made the PS3 their lead platform, by and large?

In the previous generation, the Japanese developers mostly decided to make PS2 the de facto platform, treating other more powerful platforms, one with twice the memory, and both having more generally powerful graphics parts as simple, unupgraded port destinations with an occasional improvement, if it was easy and not a big deal...sometimes...sometimes.
The Xbox/GC ports almost always had performance improvements on par with the resolution bump everyone would like to see for the PS4 version of this game, and that's despite having to recompile their games to work across the more dramatically different architectures featured that gen. No one is expecting multiplat devs to jump through major hoops and heavily optimize to squeeze every possible ounce of power out of each system. But no one's ever liked seeing performance deliberately handicapped either, just as your comment hints at your own vexation at the practice in past generations.

Will not buy. With the amount of games I want to pick up in the next few months, I'm happy Ubi is quickly crossing games off my list.

Where was this so called righteousness of not buying the game because of parity when Bungie did the same thing with Destiny? And that game is marketed by Sony.

We don't even know if AC : Unity features better graphical effects, more stable framerate on PS4 than its Xbox counterpart but you guys already going nuts.

Talk about picking your battles.
Destiny was a forced parity to make it even with last gen versions. It's a different story.

I know you're banned already, but if you're reading this, I am seriously considering returning the Surface 2 Pro I bought last week as protest against this kind of behavior by MS. I spent $900 on this tablet and honestly I really love this thing, it's literally the only MS product I've really loved since the 360 but if I can hurt MS financially and teach them a lesson I'm willing to do that.

Your move, MS and Ubisoft. I still have about 25 days left on the 30 days return period.

One person returning a Surface Pro 2 is not going to hurt them financially, or teach them a lesson. Don't get carried away.

Reactions to this are ridiculous to say the least.

Also, PS4 version probably runs better anyway.

You're ridiculous if you think people expressing frustration when a company says "We could give you a better product but choose not to" is ridiculous.

Also, you know what they say about people who make assumptions.

I feel like people are making a giant leap here based on one sentence.

Last I checked Microsoft wasn't developing this game.

Are we 12 years old?

It's an assumption, but making a game exactly the same on two platforms of varying power just 'to avoid all the debates and stuff' is the dumbest thing I've heard in a long time. There has to be more to it than that.

Well, how exactly does Ubisoft benefit from this? If it sells 5 million on Xbone and 5 million on PS4, or it sells 1 million on Xbone and 9 million on PS4. They still have 10 million sold. They'll get their 70% cut regardless of the split between the consoles. It makes no sense if solely from Ubisoft's perspective.

I'm not saying it isn't a logical theory, I was just wondering if we had any kind of confirmation. It's probably right but you never know.

weird that we get foot in mouth statements. thought that people who are allowed to be interviewed usually get some kind of pr handler briefing them...

unless ubi is just stupid as hell lol

then again there was that no females thing...

I doubt Ubisoft is worried about any backlash on this.

Destiny running in parity on both platforms despite PS4's edge in power didn't exactly cause PS4 owners to boycott that game either.

A small minority of gamers will avoid the game on principle. Everybody else will probably go by reviews or interest in the franchise.

not really a 1:1 situation there as Bungie didn't make any comments about parity...also people are more likely to believe that a game couldn't hit 60fps

Wait this is an issue? So they locked it at the same resolution Black Flag was at launch, the "avoid debates" parts just seems like typical PR spiel. I honestly could not give a shit at this point about resolution let it be 720p, 786p, 900p, 1080p or whatever else. These consoles are underpowered compared to modern PCs. If we want high fidelity out of our machines including awesome graphics with good resolutions let's just move over there.

This "parity" thing is not going to go away anytime soon. And my bets are Unity gets a 1080p patch on the PS4 by early next year. It happened with Black Flag, and if people are vocal enough they can get it here as well.

Pretty much. Ubisoft is pretty confident in FC4.

Ouch 55 pages, Ubisoft really avoided debates and got a positive preview round with this news :D
Btw people should just calm down and see what happens when the game is released to get the full story.
Graphics are not made by resolution alone and based on the reports we're reading it seems like even at 900p the Xbox One version is full of issues (sub 30fps frame rate, aliasing, poor image quality) so there's plenty of room for improvement even at 900p.
Until we get to know how the PS4 runs and with which features and settings it's impossible to say that the version has been gimped on purpose, although the comment in OP seems to suggest it, at least resolution wise.
Of course things won't end here for them, they will be asked if they can patch the resolution up like with Black Flag and so on.

There were plenty of people irked by it. But in any case it's not the same. The PS4 version of Destiny is the PS4 version that Bungie were happy with. They set a performance target and the PS4 reached it. It just so happened that with MS's help and money, the Xbone version could also get closer to it than Bungie had anticipated.

What we have here is a situation where the Xbone can't reach the PS4 version, so rather than leave a difference they have mangled the PS4 version to make sure it isn't better than the Xbone can manage.

Just for kicks, I decided to see what the misterxmedia blog thought about this news. Naturally, the sentiment is that it's the PS4's "16 op/cycle 1.6 GHZ CPU" holding back the "48 op/cycle, 1.75 GHZ CPU" Xbox One version rather than the other way around. Then there were a lot of graphs and infographics proving it without a doubt. Heh. Didn't Eurogamer say that the difference in power between the two cpu's is like 9.3%?

Wtf is wrong with people.

You see a game that looks cool, that you plan on buying.

And then suddenly its announced its not 1080p and 60fps and suddenly the game is shit, 3/10, do not buy.

I agree that the parity force is stupid, but come on.

Its not about the resolution/framerate, man, and no one has said the game itself is terrible. Its about not allowing a company to moneyhat another or allow said company to shirk providing the best experience they can. It has nothing to do with the game itself, but it's all about doing what you can to change how they operate, which in the modern world means not buying a product.

Hey if you want to assume things, believe what you want to believe. I don't particularly care to tell people what to think about this, I'm just disputing the assumption people have that the mainstream consumers will overwhelming rise up in arms against Ubisoft about this issue.
So you're assuming things as well? Cool.

Ubisoft made this game, not Microsoft.

Right, but Microsoft have the marketing rights to the game, and are the one's who have been pretty focused on this whole parity thing of late. Not only that, but parity between these versions only benefits Microsoft. Doesn't take a genius to assume they may have some sort of hand in this….

Yeah so basically 1.44 times the fun...
The issue isn't even necessarily just the image quality difference (though it is sizable on its own) as much as the ridiculous reasoning behind it.

No matter what excuse you come up with, intentionally downgrading one version to meet the lower standards of the other is pretty shitty work.
