Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

Why didn't they pay to have Call of Duty Ghosts,Battlefield 4,Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare,etc.... gimped on the PS4?

Ya noticed a pattern in all the games you've mentioned?

lemme help...they are all launch window titles (even PvZ). so why does this matter? because the Xbox One has been underperforming since launch. So much, that some top Xbox executives were replaced.

It's a whole different ballgame now, and it seems like some like to play dirty, even if it means screwing over the consumer by limiting the potential of certain products.

Enough said.

Whether MS paid for parity or not, it's lazy for Ubisoft to release this game on PS4 at 900p.

Last year they had an excuse because they were just getting to grips with the SDK. And they still bumped it up to 1080p eventually via patch.

This year I can't see them offering a patch.

That latest statement from ubisoft is adding insult to injury. I had planned to buy quite a number of games from ubisoft this year and next, that's not going to happen now, owning both an xbone and ps4

I can't support a company trying to pull this shit unless they come to their senses and do the right thing. I only warmed to MS after they ate humble pie, now after this I regret my xbone purchase as its clear they had a hand in this debacle. I can think of no other reason why a publisher would gimp a game on a system unless they received money to do so.

This game was previewed by a ton of sites today and everyone has noted that the frame-rate is all over the place. This is from a game that releases in about 30 days and it was previously delayed by 2 weeks. If you read between the lines it's obvious that the choppy frame-rate is the issue for this game. This is all happening at 900p.

Uhhh, that's easy. MS probably paid off Ubi to establish chuggy frame-rate parity as well. You don't know how far MS will go to piss in Sonys Cheerios.

I don't really care for parity, Creed Unity is competing against allot of other games in next 2 months.

In particular, I have not bought shadow of mordor yet, it was going to be a toss up between the two.

Anyway, Creed unity is off the radar now. Shame, its the first year in I don't know how long I will skip Ass creed.

Ubi will take notice if it hits their wallet.

Ghosts ran really well and looked nice on Ps4. Watchdogs looked like shit.

But if this game runs the same on both consoles despite the hardware differences Ubisoft programmers have fucked up their engine development to insane bounds.

Dude where have you been, LOL.
Watchdogs was suppose to be a launch title and got delayed AND downgraded.
The Crew doesn't look all that great graphically and it just got it's second delay today.
ACU got delayed by a few weeks and the preview version shown today even at 900p is choppy (XB1 version i think).

I may be wrong but i just think they're simply struggling with this console generation so far.

What is it about then?

It's about whether it's acceptable for a publisher to order their dev team to purposely gimp a version of a game, thereby depriving consumers of the product they should have and giving them a lesser product. And for no other reason than so that "there won't be debates and stuff."

And the overwhelming consensus is that it isn't.

That's not even the same thing as forcing performance parity. They are two completely different things.

Forcing parity is forcing parity. MS either pays big publishers, or punishes small indies, to ensure their competitor platform doesn't get an advantage in release dates, content, and now, performance.

MS's business shenanigans are always bad for the consumer. This whole saga just adds yet another area where their practises hurts both the end user and the industry as a whole.

Aren't they playing the XB1 version, not the PS4? You know, because of that marketing deal?

Maybe...just maybe...these consoles aren't actually powerful enough to handle the game at greater than 900p?

Just throwin' that out there.

They forced blizzard to drop the framerate to 60fps? What are you smoking?

Oh, so you think Diablo 3 runs at a locked 60fps on Xbone? How cute.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2014-diablo-3-ultimate-evil-face-off

It isn't quite a faultless display from the PS4 version, but close; in our full playthrough, the auto-save causes the odd a hiccup, as does occasionally streaming in new segments of a just-loaded area. However this stands at odds with the prolonged stretches of 50-60fps play possible on Xbox One. Given no issues were recorded during our earlier, pre-patch 900p tests, it's logical to assume this is a GPU-side strain, perhaps where alpha transparency effects are pushing Microsoft's console to these lurches.
...
In terms of frame-rate metrics, the Xbox One does show flickers of strain in meeting its recent 1080p upgrade - something never elicited by the PS4, which holds at 60fps in likewise tests. These drops, as infrequent as they are, make it harder to call the Xbox One release a purely locked 60fps experience in pragmatic terms, but it's clearly a solid performer. So much so, that it begs the question: could the PS4 release have been pushed any harder to take advantage of its own GPU headroom?

So is the game going to be bad now, sorry I'm not reading through 80+ pages of outrage to see if the game has been specifically gimped...

I was going to ask the same thing. lol

Some people need to walk away from this thread because some of the comments like claiming MS forced Blizzard to lower the Framerate of the PS4 version, when the PS4 version runs at a solid 60fps is getting hilarious.

There are 2 options here and really no others.

1. Ubi engineers have completely botched their next gen engine. To the point where somehow without explanation the game performs the same on 2 seperate pieces of hardware. One of which is clearly, inarguably weaker.

2. There is some sort of parity deal in place. Whether there is cash involved or not there is a deal.

There really is no other scenario.

A. I don't see how it gains them nothing. It gains them finally being able to say the Xbox version is right on par with PS4, something they haven't been able to say with many third party games prior.

Xbox One is now the Malt-o-Meal of game consoles.

"It's just as good! Honest!"

Just throwin' that out there.

And Creed Ghosts runs at 1080 and a very solid 30 fps last year.....

They had a whole year to improve.....It does not smell right.

Oh please, stop acting like Microsoft is the only video game company to pull shady deals from time to time... This fascination with Microsoft being the only bad kid on the playground is as ridiculous as the notion of an AAA developer like Ubisoft allowing themselves to get bought out and intentionally sabotage their own product so Microsoft will look better.

Why not both? :)

3. They were optimistic about the hardware specs, and promised too much in their preview videos. To avoid the scale down backlash that games like Watchdogs got, they scaled down the resolution instead.

I think its pretty absurd that you're immediately claiming that Ubisoft are lazy. Do you work on the development team and know all of their timelines?
This is their first attempt at a full next-gen game and has already been delayed so they are definitely stretched for time.

Microsoft has a virtually infinite pool of money to spend on things like this. The thing that has everyone fired up is that MS screwed on their hardware design yet everybody has to suffer for it due to shady deals for "parity". If Black Flag were not 1080p on the PS4 I don't think people would care as much.

6 million lines in assembly coded to the metal.

Yup, i jumped the gun. It's the total number of lines they had to rewrite as they switched to next gen.

here's the link for anyone wondering.

But tbh i wouldn't have been shocked if it were true, these are the guys will 4 figure development teams. Plus it is my understanding that multiple sites have been reporting the preview code to be fraught with technical issues.
