Hey... I liked the pilot. Yeah it's cheesy but the show just immediately clicked for me.

But yes, stick until at least the end of episode 3. Episode 3 has some of the most iconic moments.
Audrey's dance in the diner ("Agent Cooper loves coffee"), the Tibetan method, and the dream sequence
.

just got to season 2.

I can't put my finger on why I like this show. Its campy, weird, not as sci-fi as I thought, soapy with the love stories. All reasons I shouldn't like it but I do. The whole package is just engrossing. Like WTF http://i.minus.com/iC3mBFvcVd1Xk .gif[/ IMG][/QUOTE]
You should quit while you're ahead.

after the first quarter of s2 it goes to shit.

Struggling to get through the pilot... it's terrible.

Edit: At least the first 30 minutes are, seems to be picking up.

its bad, really bad. I struggled through the pilot and ended up finishing the first season out of sheer force. Never again, I would never recommend it to anyone. I think a majority of the reason i have such a hatred for it was the hype behind it. Had i just picked it up randomly and watched it i would have just been like "well that sucked" and moved on. But i actually hate it now. Its horrible. I respect that people enjoy it and it has a following, but not my cup of tea

Just watched the Pilot for the first time. I'm actually not very well versed in Lynch (although I've seen Blue Velvet, and I know his style well enough), so I figured Twin Peaks would be a good way to get into his work because of the massive amounts of praise for it.

It's immediately very Lynchian, with absurd campy humor mixed in with some serious shit. The cinematography is quite good--despite finding it initially off-putting due to the 1:33 aspect ratio and flat-ish lighting--with some excellent compositions and framing. The landscape is absolutely beautiful as well.

Cooper seems like a total badass thus far; I absolutely love his character.

I've heard this show described as being scary before, but other than some hints at some dark shit there was never anything outright horror. Hopefully there will be some pants-shitting inducing scenes later on.

Overall, I'm intrigued by the show. It doesn't seem AMAZING so far, but it was certainly good and unique enough for me to continue watching it.

Question: is this supposed to be a kind of parody? Not fully of course but this seems like a general parody of small town stories and soap operas but I'm not sure if that was lynch's intent

Yes, a lot of it was parodying soap operas and prior serialized dramas, but the show was much bigger than just a parody.

Most of that element probably came from Mark Frost and the other writers. David Lynch was more interested in creating a world and a story that would go on forever. Network meddling quickly put an end to that dream, however.

If the pilot didn't blow you away, you're probably not going to enjoy the rest of the show much more. I'd say the pilot is the best episode of the whole series and it was a revelation when I first saw it. Episode 2 and the final episode are also very good.

This is on Bluray now for those that care. Should look amazing and Lynch even created a new film from all the lost or unused stuff. I wouldn't call it the greatest show ever by any margin but it's really good. Esp certain episodes.

Way overpriced as usual though.

Yea it's been talked about a lot in here, think everyone's pretty excited. not actually out until July 29 though. And there's no new film from lost stuff, it just includes Fire Walk With Me and a portion of the huge amount of previously-unseen deleted/alternate scenes from Fire Walk With Me. They're not edited into the movie or anything, just on the disc. Even if they were we wouldn't have the full original 5 hour cut...not sure if I'd even want that, but who knows.

Yeah I'm totally in the drop off point. Most of these sideplots suck but Heather Graham just showed up so maybe there's still hope?

This show.......is so bad. I mean the music is cliche, the acting is unimaginative, and the script is rigid.

Couldn't even finish the pilot.

Off to play some Dark Souls 2 I guess.

None of those things apply to Twin Peaks, you must have watched something else.

Maybe dude. Am I like missing something here? I thought this show was the pinnacle of 90's television.

It's just not for everyone maybe? It has not definite genre. It's weird, quirky, sometimes very cheesy, sometimes scary. But bad music and unimaginative acting, man that hurts.

You should at least try a couple more episodes, that bloodstain will be waiting for you.

The first episode is intentionally cheesy, the ham was poking fun at the overdramatic soaps of the day when it came out. There is always a layer of cheese but it is at its thickest in the pilot.

Keep pushing on, soldier.

Its like they all have fuckin telepathy and can tell she is dead before an official word is made.

Edit: I don't know, the music isn't bad, but its definitely soap opera-ish. I guess I thought the parents grieving scenes just seemed so fake, I couldn't feel the emotion. In my opinion, this scene from Breaking Bad is a perfect example of what the opening scenes were missing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYiqZemVpsQ

I just watched the Lonely Souls episode again. You know, the one where they
reveal the ID of BOB

Tell me how to deal with this crushing depression, GAF.
