Driveclub PS Plus Edition Delayed by Server Issues

I'm sorry, but I wasn't able to follow the last few pages of the thread. Was this confirmed somewhere?

On to bigger and better things in 2015.
Explanation given to me:
It's not about the number of players pinging the servers. It's about the number of requests per player.

So 5 million players ping the server once to get connected to the destiny servers and it's good. Servers can handle the load.

drive club has considerably less server capacity. And 100k players are pinging the servers 20 times each and your up to 2 million requests. Servers weren't anticipating that. They crash or don't allow new connections.

I hope I explained that correctly. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong

I really hope they honor Plus version users with more content when it is finally released as an apology.

this is super entitled. why would they give the ps+ users more content. ps+ owners don't even have the game yet...why do they owe you something? :P

if anything they should be giving the people who bought the full game and haven't been able to play online/enjoy the full experience something.

People who bought it should get something for sure. People who are PS+ owners and haven't even gotten to touch the game should get something as well though. Not because we are entitled to it, but because throwing a few cars or a track at us would be a nice gesture of good will. It might do something to smooth over the turbulent image they currently have.

Because India is probably the worst region.

I was hoping to play it this weekend I guess that isnt going to happen. I've seen so many launches get messed up because of servers, I just dont get it they dont seem to ever learn.

Sony is dropping the ball with this pretty badly. They definitely need to give people who bought the game something. PS+ users who are waiting for the game aren't entitled to anything but Sony should offer more content on the PS+ version as a token of good will for fucking up this badly.

But ps+ user are entitled to something .

I wish I got something for the dozens of online games that had server issues over the last 20 years. I'd be loaded to the brim with shit. It's fun to want things.

First and foremost I didn't even buy the game so I don't want anything for it. I also said that PS+ users who do not own the game and are waiting for the ps+ edition of the game are not entitled to anything but Sony should throw them a bone for good will, because you know they did say the game would have a ps+ edition releasing at the same time. The online component was a major feature of the game and it has been an utter disaster and pretty much completely broken, why shouldn't people who bought the game be compensated for this?

Still nothing, huh? This is fucking pathetic.

I was able to get online and play some rounds with voice chat last night. Tbh I figured it'd be fixed today.

The whole situation looks really bad on Sony's part but I appreciate Evolution being so openly communicative about it.

I don't know how this game is having so many server issues.

The Plus version isn't up and I really, really doubt this game is setting the world on fire sales wise.

Whole situation just seems like a disaster.

My friend has been unable to access online for this game at all. He wants a refund but ordered through psn. I can't believe he can't play online at all. This launch was a disaster

well they did promise the plus edition time and time again. People purchased PS Plus expecting this content and so far they have failed to deliver on content and communication. I don't personally expect additional content, but PSN has been a load of shit so far, and I'll take all this into consideration when it's time to renew.

Imagine what happens when the millions who were waiting for ps plus come on.

If it can't cope with few thousand people, how it's going to survive with that.

They should've canned Evolution instead of Sony Liverpool.

Yes, I said it.

can't say i like the idea of people losing their jobs, but if I had to choose one studio...let's just say i'd get pretty wet for a new wipeout, especially since I don't have a ps3 or a vita so I missed out on the latest iterations.

It's been what, 4-5 days? Yeah it sucks, but the game isn't going anywhere, and they're sure to get it fixed. Not everything is fixed overnight. I agree it would be nice if they gave people something as an apology, but you shouldn't expect anything.

So they can make another really excellent racing game by the time Sony has their shit together and justifies the price of PSN.
How exactly is this Sony's fault?

It's not. I just don't see how this comes to PS+ very soon at all. The number of PS+ subscribers is approaching the number of people who bought Diablo 3 at launch and we saw how well that went with a full 3 territory worldwide server rollout.

How exactly is this Sony's fault?

They're the publisher, they own the company under the umbrealla of Sony Worldwide Studios, and I'm sure it's them providing the servers for Evolution's game and not something Evolution funded themselves.

In the same way you blame EA when BF4 servers and game was shit at release, you blame Sony for these problems. Nothing new.

Evo's not the owner of PSN and its servers, Sony is. It's on them to make sure PSN is working for their flagship racing game of the year.
How do you know this is a PSN problem? Your logic doesn't follow. Destiny was a way larger launch and nothing happened with the PSN. Everything worked more or less fine. This is on Evo and being woefully unprepared.

Perhaps Sony should have provided better oversight, but let's not sit here giving Evo kudos for being so damn great.

In the end, Evo IS part of Sony.

These problems all reflect back on Sony for not doing enough to make sure the studio knew what the hell they were doing.

I can see Drive Club going the route of Socom 4. Fucking awful launch(technically), bombs and studio gets shut down.

I agree with other posters though. Why does the wipeout team get let go, but the motorstorm team doesn't?

It was the whole "mid-size studio" thing. Liverpool was deemed too small to last.

Fair enough, without knowledge of what's actually going on with the servers and how the issue is being fixed it's hard to say whether the online component is the responsibility of Evo or Sony. I'm just saying that I am satisfied with Evo's response to the problem and find the game enjoyable as a whole.

And saying that these people deserve to lose their jobs more than the other very talented team that lost their jobs is fucking childish.

I was really excited for driveclub and was definitely getting the plus demo, and was considering buying the digital or retail version.

After seeing/hearing the QuickLook/review? I don't think I'm even going to waste the hard drive space on this extended demo or in my gamefly que. I can't believe how this game turned out ugh. What a bummer.

Literally zero mention of the game on this week's PlayStation Blogcast. One single post on the PS Blog, and, that was only as an update to the server issues. Sony refuses to even mention this game's name. They're really just going to pretend nothing happened.

I can't wait till we get to hear stories of what the hell happened during this game's development. It's a disaster.

Game's fun, though :)

Quick question, when Project Gotham Racing 2 launched in Fall 2003 on the original XBox, it supported Xbox Live, which itself had only just launched the year before. -- How did PGR2's launch go with its online play ?

Don't the publishers usually handle servers and not the developers? I mean as far as hosting the dedicated servers. Obviously the server-side software is on Evolution but the server infrastructure itself is on Sony and PSN itself being smooth is not necessarily an indication that the Driveclub server infrastructure is sound.

Ya, this is annoying. If it wasn't such a fantastic game and so much fun in the single player I'd be pissed. Buuuut since I only paid $50 for the full game and games here in Canada are $70, I'm not going to bitch and moan about it but I don't blame anyone if they do. I'm just not personally too upset about it. The amount of fun I've had this past week has been worth the price of admission already.

I'm not saying stuff like this is ok, it's not, I'm just not too particularly perturbed about it at this point.

I certainly am not saying Evo is completely to blame or Sony is blameless. Sony's response to the situation was terrible actually. I'm just a bit suspect of the fact that other online-heavy games have launched well. Also, Evo had an extra year to account for the millions of PS+ users. Even if they weren't planning on that many sales, they had to know there are millions of PS+ users that would be killing their servers trying the game for "free."

Overall, this is a disgusting mess for both Sony and Evo.
Considering Evo are the ones patching the server code I'm pretty sure it's related to Evo's server code.
This is what I would think as well.

If that is so, why is Evo working on the server code and not Sony? That seems indicative of something wrong on Evo's use of the server's infrastructure. Maybe Sony didn't teach them how to properly maximize the bad servers, but the way this is getting fixed makes it seem like it's on Evo's end.

Whilst I sympathise with everyone who is still waiting to play the PS+ version of Driveclub, the people who have paid for the full version but can't access half the features 5 days after release are the people that I really feel for. And I'm one of them.

It really isn't good enough, and both Sony and Evolution deserve far more negative press than they are getting.

I certainly won't be buying anything by Evolution again. DC is fun to play, but after a year of delays it's nothing more than a bang average driving game that doesn't work properly and doesn't look half as good as I was led to believe it would.
