Still wondering how Civil War is going to work, but this is awesome news. Between this and DC's slate I'll finally have the motivation again to go see movies in theaters more than a few times a year.

She would be 37 at filming, 38 at release. Not that old. Plus she's supposed to be an experienced military person, right?

I think that they'll go with someone who is 10 years younger. You can get plenty of military experience by your late 20s if you join out of high school.

Would Sackhoff not be a bit old?

I see them going a little younger unless they want a 40 something captin marvel if they make s follow up.

Certainly not for the initial role. Furthermore hollywood magic is not something to scoff at.

But yeah Kathyrine Winnick is also a perfect cast, marvel should really scoop her up.

Thus far they've pretty solidly gone with people who are the right choices for the role, as opposed to looking for a "type". Just look at GOTG for instance.

Just dawned on me...

No one in the MCU has a secret identity, how will they do Civil War? Use that Negative Zone prison for super-powered people who don't join Shield?

Feige said it was more about nations wanting accountability than secret identities. Since yeah, no one has one

Feige said today it's going to be about who the superheroes report to and government oversight and interference into their affairs rather than secret identities.

Hard to really say who'd make a good Captain Marvel without knowing much about the tone or atmosphere Marvel is going for for the movie.

That's kinda where I'm at with this whole shebang. As fun as it is being hype for these IP, I'm really wanting to know what kinds of creative teams are going to be attached and what they're going for.

That makes sense, and with Tony likely going to be feeling very guilty over Ultron, it sounds like it will all fall into place nicely.

I think this is another one of those "Nathan Fillion should be Nathan Drake" things that the internet clings to, but are unlikely to happen.

I don't think it's that comparable. Katee was the first rumoured actress to really set things ablaze and actually young enough to still play the character.

Who do you think would be on each side? Both Cap and Iron Man have shown to have some distrust in authority, first Iron Man refusing to give the Iron Man tech to the government, and then everything Cap went through in Winter Soldier. Will be interesting to see how they make it work.

I'm guessing Tony's going to side with the world since he does screw up in AoU. Cap is gonna Cap.

I just hope they have a good ending in mind for the movie. Cap just surrendering is going to suck out all the air.

The one thing that worries me is the possibility of Civil War killing off Cap. I know Evans has wanted to get out of acting for a while, and I hope that's not what this means.

Cap is one of my favorite Marvel characters, and he's BARELY had enough time to breathe and become the Captain America we know from the comics. I'm fine with him being killed off at some point, just not yet. We just haven't had enough time with him.

They have Evans for Avengers 3 (At least one of them. Don't know know how it breaks down when it spans to two parts.) They're not going to kill him off.

Daredevil will, & Black Panther most likely will to the general public. But they'll mostly go for the "Heroes Working For the Government" angle.

Well his contract ends with avengers 3, right? So I don't think they'd kill him off in Cap 3.

It makes sense. With SHIELD gone and everything that's happened in TWS, the governments of the world are going to start wondering about all these heroes running about without a leash, and whether or not they can even be trusted (the Avengers especially, given that they were a SHIELD project and whatever going to happen in Age of Ultron).

This needs to stop being spread around. He doesn't want to get out of acting. He just wants to direct more. He's fine with playing Captain America but he said that he wants to only act in NEW future movies that he directs (not connected to current stuff). He said it's not definite either but he really wants to direct.

Well that's good to hear. I had misgivings about Evans being Cap back before and after the first Captain America movie, but he's really grown into the role, and done a great job. It would suck to lose a great depiction of Captain America so soon.

No way are they killing of Cap before Thanos, MCU civil war looks like it'll be a very different animal to the comic version (which is a good thing...).

His portrayal of Cap in Winter Soldier is damn near perfect. He has taken on the role amazingly.

Totally makes sense to fit it under the Cap/political thriller label then.

Edit: also, 2016. Wow. Deadpool, Cap 3, Strange, Suicide Squad, and X-Men. Best year by far IMO.

Since apparently this has to be posted in every thread:

Evans never said he wanted to quit acting full stop after he runs out his deal with Marvel, just that he only wanted to act in movies he was also directing.

Of course Affleck has said the same thing and he still acts in a bunch of stuff he's not shooting himself, so who knows.

Just to bury this once and for all:

"I said I directed last year and I really responded to it; I really enjoyed it and I'd love to focus a little more on that... By no means am I planning on retiring. It's kind of a silly statement."

"By no means am I planning on retiring," he said, calling his previous comments "kind of a silly statement". By way of caveat, he added: "I certainly am going to try and focus a bit more on directing at this point."

"If I'm acting at all, it's going to be under Marvel contract, or I'm going to be directing. I can't see myself pursuing acting strictly outside of what I'm contractually obligated to do."
