Funny enough, I was thinking of bumping the thread to post this, and it's already up: there's a big 64-team Gears 3 online tournament going on right now. There's a Team Black Tusk playing right now with two devs in it playing right now here: http://www.twitch.tv/falloutt

Makes me feel especially good that they actually joined this tournament to play Gears 3 at high-level - this is great in my eyes in regards to Gears 4. They're doing pretty dam good too, haven't lost once yet.

Tournament just started about an hour ago I believe, and there's still a lot more to go.

Oft hope is born when all is forlorn.
I am not too fond of Gears as I am for Halo. So I don't see the appeal for this as much because I feel like I just played it but sure I get it, the demand is there. And if MS is trying to continue same Gears story then its a nice way to release it for people who haven't played.

Just found out that there are actually two Black Tusk teams in this tourney, and the second one is on now wrecking hard as the other one, won the first match and it looks like they'll win this one live now too.

Best news so far is that one of the devs was saying that the guys that were wrecking in this tournament also play each other at the studio (mix of producers and designers). Meaning that MP is already playable for Gears 4.

Saber and Certain Affinity have their plates clear now that MCC has gone gold...

Exactly.

I mean, I'm not a developer or anything, but to port Gears 1-3 to 1080p with all MP maps & characters can be done in a year I'd bet for November 2015, and Black Tusk finishes Gears 4 for 2016.

I have a confession to make, I've only played maybe a half hour of the first game on the 360. I have sinned an unforgivable sin, but I hope a new collection on the bone will save me. Your hype is my hype. Love.

Watching it now makes me feel all nostalgic. Gears of War 3 is still an exceptional game, brimming with content. I sold my 360 and all my games some time ago, but chose to keep the Gears of War trilogy. One day I'll play through all of them all over again.

The original was my first online game and started a love affair with the franchise I don't think I'll ever be over.

Thousands of games later I could still pop it in tomorrow and waste an afternoon playing the multiplayer. It spawned such a special community too.

Yooo. My mans better get on it. Horde 2.0 is so fucking good.
Original Horde was the truth and the light. Adding XP and buying shit just needlessly complicated it and made situations where players were actually screwing with others by upgrading the things they needed to upgrade. Bleh.

I love the idea of shifting power positions instead of just defending one spot though. That and boss rounds - mostly.

Couldn't stand defending a generator in judgment though - way to take out all the real survival tension and replace it with trying to defend some box that could be cheese-attacked by the AI.

Yup. 30 waves on Insane Mansion. Doesn't get any better than that.

I swear this happens in every single thread we have about HD Remasters.

Has there ever been a single HD Collection that has come at the expense of a new game? If anything, even going right back to the original God of War Collection, the vast majority of them are made as a direct result of a new game coming on the horizon anyway.

If studios like Bluepoint, Hexadrive and Sabre just didn't exist, and you had guys from 343 saying stuff like "We didn't see any point in making a Halo 5 when we could just upscale the old ones. Fuck it." then these sorts of comments would actually have a point. But as it stands, what's actually happening is that older fans are getting to revisit beloved games with new leases of life breathed into them, studios are being given work and keeping developers in a job, and people who have never played a franchise before are jumping in, catching-up, and helping the 'new game' that releases a year later reach better sales and a broader audience than it otherwise would have.

Everybody's a winner. Bring on Gears Trilogy.
This has been repeated over and over, but those that gripe about remasters are just dead set on being ignorant and will not hear any rational argument. They are convinced that this generation is just about rehashing old games from last gen eventhough the new game:remaster ratio is heavily skewed in favor of new games so much so that it shouldn't even be an issue.

I couldn't be more grateful for getting these remasters and seeing my older games get a new lease on life.

Marcus Felix collection, with Gears of War 1 getting a full remaster just like Halo CE and Halo 2.

Gears 1 still looks great, I really don't see the value in that. Up resolution, sort out frame-rate/AA and it would still look like it belonged on Xbox One. Perhaps they can take the PC version, in fact, that might be easier.

Microsoft now own the Gears ip so this is quite predicable as they will want to gain some excitement over a new Gears of War title and what better way than to re-release the old ones on a new system with upgraded visuals and better online services.

I imagine it's a lot cheaper to redo Gears 1-3 than it is to make a whole new Gears of War game. I'm just hoping that they don't bother with the XBOX360 (on the new Gears game) unless they can do what they did with Forza Horizon 2 which is having two different teams.

Gears of War HD in 2015 with a beta (like they are doing with the Halo Collection), new Gears game in 2016.

Now if we can get them to redo the original Crackdown in 1080p and 60fps.

Agreed. There's not much to remaster as such 1080p/60fps and maybe higher Rez textures would be good enough.

Much to my surprise I see a lot of people disappointed in Gears 2 multiplayer?

WHY? I am confused I enjoyed the little I actually played of it and it was responsible for the ultra fun horde mode that now shows up in many games.

Help me understand!

Also, Gears 2 was IMO the best Gears. Although, the Nightfall section of Gears 1 I feel is the best sequence in any Gears game.

Ewwww. Horde 2.0 is infinitly superior to the original Horde.

Holly shit how come i missed this...

If they remaster Gears 1-3 in full 1080p 60fps then i'd buy that in a heartbeat !!! It would be perfect before the new Gears of War comes out...

As much as I like the series(I finished the the first three games and played multiplayer as well) this doesn't attract me at all. I would rather play a new entry in the series, that would give me one more reason to buy the Xbox One.

You're getting a new game. Eventually.

At launch, Gears 2 match-making was busted and smoke grenades were far too strong.

It was fantastic when both problems were patched up but if players didn't stick around for that, I can see why they would have walked away from Gears 2 MP feeling underwhelmed by it.

If they re-released Gears of War on Xbox One MS would have to cancel 9 new games.

Didn't you know that's how it works since re-releasing these games takes up gigantic resources and cannot be farmed out to a team that specializes in porting. That's not how things work!

yes, im being sarcastic

So, the Xbox press site uploaded a bunch of assets under the label "Gears of War Franchise" yesterday.

Shrug.

Why Shrug?

Well, its difficult to know what it means, right now.

MS obviously now own the franchise but 28th October is a random date to be adding the games, with no official title announced (we know its coming but no details etc).

Perhaps they're gearing up for an announcement? Or planning a blog post about it for one reason or another. Perhaps a Gears 360 bundle is coming?

Interesting how Judgment images haven't been uploaded. They better not screw me out of Judgment single player, Aftermath and Overrun, that mode was awesome

They may want to pretend that Judgment didn't happen. Either that or they plan to add it as DLC at a later date.
