MCU Tier List Time

Top tier:
Avengers
Winter Soldier
Guardians of the Galaxy
Iron Man 1

High Tier:
Iron Man 3
Thor 2
Cap 1 (second half drags it down)
Thor

Mid Tier:
Iron Man 2

Low Tier:
Hulk

Only MCU film I legitimately disliked was Hulk.

Swap Hulk and IM2 around and you have my list. The Avengers is the pinnacle of comic book movies, but TWS is my personal favorite.

I was reading my infinity gauntlet book today and it just got me thinking how cool it would be if some of the x-men were part of the MCU.

I would love to see thanos
box cyclops head in a cube
in infinity wars.

My turn?!?!? Even the low tier film is still really great.

Top Tier:
Iron Man 3
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Guardians of the Galaxy
Avengers

High Tier:
Iron Man 2
Thor: The Dark World
Captain America: The First Avenger
Thor
Incredible Hulk

Mid Tier:
Agents of Shield
Marvel One Shots

Low Tier:
Iron Man

Thor had a better story since it told their origins, therefore the original wins.

It was also a great vehicle for Tom Hiddleston's Loki, lots of Othello influence there. It gave the MCU its first great villain and in that respect was most directly important to the Avengers.

Here's mine. I thought Iron man 1 was pretty darn good but I need something in the High tier since I can't justify putting Hulk, Iron Man 3, or Cap 1 in it (The first half was great but the second half was baaad) so Iron man 1 had to go there since its the least favorite of my top tier films.

Top tier:
Avengers
Winter Soldier
Guardians of the Galaxy

High Tier:
Iron Man 1

Mid Tier:
Hulk
Iron man 3
Cap 1

Low Tier:
Thor
Iron man 2
Thor 2

Still haven't see Thor 2, least fully heh. Thor was alright, but I don't think I really care that much for Thor and all beside Loki.XD Didn't see the IH either. This year easily the best for me regarding MCU with Winter Soldier and Guardians being my top favorite so far.

Top tier:
Avengers
Winter Soldier
Guardians of the Galaxy

High Tier:
Iron Man 1

Mid Tier:
Hulk
Iron man 3
Cap 1

Low Tier:
Thor
Iron man 2
Thor 2

Minus Thor 2 and Hulk, that would pretty much be my list too, except maybe have Avengers be high tier.

I hope, starting with Ultron and Thanos, that the MCU Villians can actually shine and are respected moreso. Most of the villians have been ridiculously disappointing (Avengers/Iron Man 1-3/Guardians)

Guardians being almost the best Marvel movie up until the villian is dispatched so easily at the end.

Loved Red Skull and enjoyed Malekith. Thought Ronan was thrown away too easily. Mandarin was a wasted opportunity. Not a fan of Loki at all... it's probably just me because he is a huge fan favorite but at no point have I ever felt that he's been a real threat or the heroes have been in real danger (Thor 1/Thor 2/Avengers).

I loved Ronan in GotG. His defeat showed just how powerful that damn gem was when going for the kill instead of the ego stroke. Ronan was toying around with them through the movie. Making them look completely outclassed at every turn, because they were. And stroking his ego every chance he got. The gem made him look completely outclassed.

I have yet to watch a bad or disappointing Marvel flick. Some of them are better than others, and none of them are going for something more personal like NolanBat, but all of them are great little flicks.

But my superhero standards are seemingly lower than some of ya'lls. I'm able to watch Smallville and X-Men Origins: Wolverine while enjoying them. Even when characters and storylines are butchered or bastardized to insane levels. Even when any form of internal logic or consistency is nonexistent. I always think. "Could be worse."

i dont understand how people liked Thor 2.

maybe it's because Thor is my favorite Marvel character but that movie was a complete waste of time. It's one of the few Marvel movies I've never bothered to rewatch.

I think the problem with Thor 2 is that it was thoroughly by-the-numbers, uninspired, not even adapting anything noteworthy from the comics. The Winter Soldier is one of the most acclaimed Cap stories. They got Shane Black to put his fingerprints all over Iron Man 3. Thor 2 served no purpose other than to check a box next to another Infinity Stone.

It seems like they've realized their error and are trying to correct it by adapting Ragnarok.

Haven't seen it posted, but if anyone wants to watch the whole thing from start to finish, including the clips, it's here (for now):

It only doesn't have the Q&A.

Oh, and since we're ranking, I'm not going to throw up my list, will just comment on the most controversial ones:

Avengers - it has its weaknesses, but as far as getting a comic up on the big screen, I don't think any movie does it as successfully. It is always fun to watch, and I see more fun stuff every time through (Hawkeye vs Widow is an awesome fight). I put this as the most mindless of the Marvel films, but in a fun way. Might also explain why it did so well, as audiences really didn't need to watch the earlier films.

Thor 1 - severely underrated. The romance thread in it was paced perfectly..didn't end with them being the love of all times, but just with them kissing. Avengers handled it correctly, then Thor 2 sort of changed this. Also, Thor 1 has one of the best character threads in the form of Loki. Watching his machinations is amazing, not to mention his reaction to leaning about his history. All very shakespearian (guess that's Branaugh's doing). I seriously could write a paper on Loki in Thor 1.

Iron Man 2 - It's disjointed and stumbles at times. I don't think the insertion of SHIELD is the cause as much as the loss of focus on the "sins of the father are visited upon the children" story. If that threat had held through the story, the other stuff wouldn't have been so much of an issue. Still, good action, drone battle is awesome, monte carlo is fun, and the drunken brawl works nicely. Shame about Whiplash (which could have been fixed if that thread had held).

Hulk - The only Marvel film with no discernible plot. Every action sequence seems to come out of absolutely nowhere. Also, the only Marvel film that can be skipped without missing out on an element of the MCU.

Thor 2 - I don't know...I'd call this one the plainest of the movies. There was nothing really great in it, and there was nothing really terrible. It just seemed to lack things...not enough villain development, not enough story development, not enough dynamism in the action, not enough logical connections, not enough...something.... It was just bland.

I do hate when topics descend into ranking competitions, inevitably nobody listens to anybody else's ranking and it becomes a sort of catalog of useless opinions.

I like them. I'd even like to contribute my own into the mix.

Iron Man - ★★★½
The Incredible Hulk - ★★½
Iron Man 2 - ★★★
Thor - ★★★
Captain America - ★★½
The Avengers - ★★★★
Iron Man 3 - ★★★★
Thor: The Dark World - ★★★
Captain America: The Winter Soldier - ★★★★½
Guardians of the Galaxy - ★★★½

I like them all in their own way but quality has been all over the place. They've been getting better. Hopefully they'll continue making good movies.

With the announcement of films like Civil War, Black Panther, Captain Marvel etc
Has anyone become less excited for age of ultron? Or is it just me :-/

Quite the opposite. The fact that we're getting Civil War, Black Panther and Dr Strange and the timings of those movies means some serious shit is gonna go down in Age of Ultron.

Man all of these movies coming out is gunna leave me broke and poor. If you told me 10 years ago that they are gunna make all of these movies and tie them together I would think you were nuts.

Even more excited for Age of Ultron.
Talk about Ant-Man, though. Don't care for it at all. Civil War and the stuff after it seems so much more exciting

I'm still excited for Ant-Man, because it's a heist-movie and we haven't had one of those in quite a while and I'm fully expecting Hank Pym is responsible for the dormant prototype that Tony resurrects. Plus, the synopsis states that the heist in question will involve something that will have a big impact later on in the MCU.

My turn?!?!? Even the low tier film is still really great.

Top Tier:
Iron Man 3
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Guardians of the Galaxy
Avengers

High Tier:
Iron Man 2
Thor: The Dark World
Captain America: The First Avenger
Thor
Incredible Hulk

Mid Tier:
Agents of Shield
Marvel One Shots

Low Tier:
Iron Man

Iron Man worse than IM2 and 3? I know it's an opinion, but why are you so wrong????

Iron Man 3 was fantastic on all fronts. Iron Man 2 had Scarlett Johansson, Don Cheadle, and Sam Rockwell. I also thought Mickey Rourke did a pretty good job.

With the first Iron Man, I felt that Terrence Howard was a really shitty Rhodey. And Jeff Bridges is just bleh. I personally feel like the best part of the Iron Man films are Starks interactions with others, and the first Iron Man had the weakest supporting cast with the two already mentioned and characters like Pepper and Happy still finding their groove.

maybe it's because Thor is my favorite Marvel character but that movie was a complete waste of time. It's one of the few Marvel movies I've never bothered to rewatch.

Remember when people were claiming it was this awesome mix of LOTR+Star Wars?

Top Tier:
Guardians of the Galaxy
Avengers

In that order. No real criticisms. Any flaws are basically nitpicking. Gamora and Ronan were weak characters in GotG for example.

High Tier:
Iron Man
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Iron Man 2
Captain America: The First Avenger

All really good movies. Iron Man 1 would be in top tier if not for the final Boss battle with a mech. I found that a bit lame. I thought IM2 was fine. I like both Cap movies a lot.

Mid Tier:
Thor
Thor: The Dark World
Incredible Hulk

Thor flicks are good. I thought Hulk was ok too.

Low Tier:
Iron Man 3

Not really a fan of IM3 although it wasnt bad, just not to the level of other movies.

Still surprised at how many people hate the Thor movies. I think they are both OK, not great, but OK and fun to re-watch.

I like the first. It's nothing mindblowing but I enjoy it.

Thor 2 is a mess. I only watched it once but all I remember was way too much Natalie Portman and even more Kat Dennings.

It's kinda crazy when you consider the pace at which we're getting these

Phase 1 was over the course of 5 years, with 2009 being an off-year. 1-2 movies per year, 6 in total.

Phase 2 will only be 3 years, 2 movies per year, 6 in total.

Phase 3 will be over 4 years, with 2-3 movies per year (save for 1 in 2019) and 9 in total.

They're not BAD, they're just not great. First one had the necessary amount of character development for Thor and Loki and didn't accomplish much otherwise. Second one went further with Loki, and practically ignored everyone else with Malekith being a non-starter. They're fine dumb entertainment but they don't really have the impact that the other solo films have. They feel like they're only there to put pieces in place for follow-up movies.

Infinity tier
Captain America Winter Solder
Avengers
Iron Man
Guardians of the Galaxy

Midgard Tier
Captain America The 1st Avenger
Thor Dark World
Thor

Boner Tier
Hulk
Iron Man 2
Iron Man 3

I see that your image is hosted by MTV...

The Silver posted that here on Tuesday after the event:

And then I posted it on reddit:

Then this guy re-posted it on reddit:

And then MTV picked it up:

And then you posted it here:

This seems to be a classic example of GAF → internet → GAF

It's just a shame proper credit was not given.
I don't know for sure that The Silver made the gif, but he at least posted it first.

The Thor Movies are good. Not great. Thor 2 is the worse of the two though. I take no issue with anyone hating or ranking them low. Thor is my all time Favorite superhero and his universe(Asgard) has yet to be represented properly on film IMO. It's real close but The Incredible Hulk is the only movie I would rank below them.
