It's been exactly 2 months since Destiny launched - what are your thoughts on it?

That's funny, because I feel like you've made exponentially more Destiny posts than I have.

Like I said, we can count if you want.

I don't think I've actually ever said anything very glowingly positive of the game. What I have done is call people out, repeatedly, for dumb hypocrisy, FUD, goalpost moving, straw manning, ramblingly incoherent drivel, etc. It just so happens that you find a lot of all those things in Destiny threads.

But I guess that makes me part of the destiny defense force that's oppressing you or something.

I probably have made more posts than you regarding Destiny, absolutely. I was super hyped for Destiny before the alpha and beta phase. So excited that I even bought my PS4 to be able to play Destiny. You can go look up the post I made a day or so before the alpha went live about buying the PS4 if you want.

So it's not like I set out wanting to dislike Destiny, quite the opposite in fact. The reason for why I've posted a lot about Destiny has been because there are so many issues with the game that I've wanted to express my oppinion and dissapointment about. However I've managed to do so without responding to people like you just responded to BassForever

Anyway, you say what you do is call people out for posting dumb shit. Fair enough. Who exactly were you calling out in this thread?
You can tell it really burns a lot of the people in here that, over in community side, the OTs just keep rolling at a historic rate.

Kinda messes with their "THIS POS IS A FAILURE, EVERYONE TRADED IT IN!!" narrative.

You didn't quote anyone, you didn't refer to any specific person. What you did was just make a sweeping generalization about people who post in this thread.

84 hours spent playing Destiny.

It has its flaws, but I like it.

I'd continue playing it, but Dragon Age is coming out next week.

First week that I haven't touched it at all. I think I'm done. The DLC plans aren't worth it to me so this'll probably be traded in / shelved for the foreseeable future.

I played it a lot for about a month. I thought it was super fun at its core although extremely flawed.

But i've lost almost all interest due to the extreme repetitiveness and the fact that my character's progression is totally out of my hands.

I do play it from time to time, mainly on tuesdays to do the weekly stuff with a couple buddies (I still like to do co-op stuff), but I hardly ever touch it after that is done.

All things considered I can say I enjoyed it more than the majority of games I've been playing, but I doubt i'll be going back to it, especially since i'm 99% sure I won't be getting any DLC.

I got my moneys worth. Im stuck at level 29 and the game is essentially over for me. I already own the first two DLC packs but the content in the fist one is fucking disgraceful and I can't see myself as actually downloading or playing them.

  • Bungie are being a bit shit with the updates, promising weapon buffs just weeks after release and said buffs still not on the horizon 2 months after release is just... well like I said before... a bit shit when all they have to do is tweak a database.

Bearing in mind they manage to do it rather quickly when people manage to dominate PVP.

  • The raid is also rubbish, buggy crap that I can't be arsed with, and who in there right mind at Bungie thought that end game content should have been just one mission that locks large amounts of the games population out by requiring larger teams than the rest of the game?!? - bravo!
  • The "light" system for higher 20+ levels is beyond awful.
  • PVP is average at best, all weapons and armour in the crucible should have just been levelled e.g. all Assault rifles act the same way. That way they wouldn't have the fuck up guns for the PVE game. If you want the specs that matter thats what Iron Banner should have been for but they even managed to fuck that up.
  • Oh and grind.. not to progress in levels like any sane RPG but to get shit Light Shards or whatever the fuck they are called, and you might not even get them.

I like the game, but it did not have enough content to hold my interest for more then 3 weeks, and I have been trying to keep it going for as long as I could but in the end, it got boring really really fast.

Amazing Beta, Amazing first month.

Had my fill for now, been re-playing Dragon Age: Origins and AW/MCC.
Got my moneys worth already, bring on the DLC next month: get my L28 to 30 :D.

ffs, 10 years is the lifetime of the whole project - multiple games with multiple DLCs. Next you'll be telling us about how the game cost $500m to make, right?

Thank you for your input knighty!! Like i didn't know that!
But you can't expect good following games when the one that is supposed to hook people up is barely a skeleton of a game with barely enough content to last 1 monte and a dlc that will last at best 2 weeks.

Lord have mercy.

Gameplay wise it is one of the best first person shooters ever. Yea sure it is a flawed game, but I don't see it why it is 'mediocre'.

The hyperbole in this thread is ridiculous. The game isn't perfect but it's by no means a "terrible" game.

Personally, I am still enjoying it and have had fun since launch. Yes, it has it's repetitive content but it hasn't stopped me from wanting to play every day. Looking forward to seeing what the DLC brings too! :)

Finally started playing it this weekend, had played the Beta a lot, so not new to it. Some friends rushed me through to the last mission available in the beta with their level 28/29 characters, and then I hooked up with appropriately leveled friends.

1. Game itself is polished and well made, AAA quality for sure.
2. Story is OK, but lacks oomph I guess.
3. Surprisingly shallow in some areas of mechanics while being robust in others.
4. The lack of really mattering what you pick for a class is pretty crappy. Yes it controls some abilities you get, but at the end of the day it really comes down to gear drops.
5. Gear itself is interesting, but the differences between various pieces doesn't really seem to matter so much.

I guess in general it is a damn solid game and worth a purchase, especially on a good sale price. It will be fun to play and occupy some game hours for sure. Int he end though it feels like a grand novel that ended mid chapter and leaves you wondering what happened.

Great game, played it a ton.

Shitty RNG design, really poor post launch patches.

Currently in weekly idle status, frustrated with my main stuck at 29 despite raiding every week since launch.

Did a couple strikes, some PvP, and beat the story, haven't been back since, and probably won't be for a while with all the games coming out. The lore, and universe just didn't captivate me like I thought it would. OST is great though.

I love it. Have had more fun with this game than any other this year, but I need some new content like right now. At least give me Iron Banner or something.

This thread actually isn't as bad as most, but I constantly feel like this with Destiny.

My thoughts are echoed in both these posts.

This is one of the few times that I'm glad GAF's opinion is in the minority of the global gaming community as a whole.

Even with how light the game is on content comparatively, I'm still in love with it. And as long as more stuff continues to come in for it I know that this will be my go to multi-player for some time to come.

Damn, people aren't allowed to share opinions in a Destiny opinion thread without the Destiny defense force popping in. So sad.

I enjoyed it while I played it (Over 100 hours logged), however Bungie's approach to patching the game really turned me off to it. Nerfing assault rifles rather than buffing pulse/scout/handcannons, okay. Nerfing loot cave instead of adjusting the Cryptarch system at the outset, alright. Changing the raid bosses mechanics because you claim that having 3 people furthest back being teleported is too easy? such nonsense. And the encounter still has plenty of glitches with the portals that remain untouched. Miss me with that nonsense.

I had my fun with it. I have a lv29 titan, lv28 warlock and a lv28 hunter, with a combined playtime of ~240 hours, and i think is time for me to move on, because i don't have much more to do with it.

I wanted to be level 30 with the titan (my first character), but there really is no need for me to do so, because i already beat all the missions at least once. And the VOG doesn't help giving me fucking chatterwhite for the sixth time or obscene ammounts of ascendant stuff to upgrade armor i dont have.

This is one of my problems with the game, the RNG. Other problems are: the story is nonexistent (i still can't believe that we can't read the grimoire cards within the game), repetitive missions, awful designs (system wise, like not being able to know what faction level you have or access your bank equipment without going to the tower), loading times, massive ammounts of lag (the european servers must be really fucked up), crucible map rotations (bastion four times in a row, really?), lack of content, etc.

Bungie's attitude doesnt help either: i get the impression that instead of trying to improve things, they're busy trying to hinder our progress at all costs, for the game to last longer and to hide the lack of content. They are fast fixing the cheese, but not as fast fixing the current VOG glitches.

And it is a damn shame, because the core game is fantastic: the gameplay is fun, the game is pretty, the bso is outstanding, etc. It is a really fun game to play with friends, despite all the shortcomings.

That being said, i don't plan to buy the dlc. They have to fix the most egregious problems for me to come back. If they do and my clan teammates are still playing it, i will probably buy the expansions in the future. If they don't, i'll wait for destiny 2.

It's a tedium to do repetitive bounties over and over again just to progress. It's hard enought to reach light level 29 to 30. All about RNG. Quickly gave up on it.

Destiny feels like a game for addicts a game that plays too much into player psychology.
The shooting is amazing with positive reinforcement of heads blowing up, but to travsere the same shit daily, weekly, nightfall, and raid. It becomes a fucking chore.

I'm playing something else like GTA V and Dragon Age Inquisition when they come out. Not wasting any more time with that game.

I had it with the White PS4, played it breifly a few times, couldn't get into it..soon as Call of Duty AW released, I exchanged it without hesitation....haven't looked back since!

  • Still Playing
  • Bungie's best game
  • In contention for game of the year.
  • Best score of the year
  • Story sucks, but I don't play games for stories.
  • Voice acting is beyond horrible
  • Lots of bugs
  • Is repetitive, which is exacerbated when you create alts.
  • Too much grinding/farming in the end game.

Silly me, I forgot that this thread was only created for the people that have negative things to say about Destiny.

Forgettable.

Bungie should have been more humble in its marketing and PR, the fallout wouldn't have been as bad if our expectations weren't so damn high.

Agreed. I played ~60 hours and enjoyed it for the most part. But, it was just forgettable. Not a bad game (my personal opinion is 7 or 8 out of 10), however, it did not live up to the hype and felt a little light on the content.

The final straw was the xbox one DLC containing one less strike....

I traded it in at that point.

Edit: The guilt is eating at me. I should at least point out I did NOT play the raid. I saw $35 trade in and knew that would be dropping quickly with Halo: MCC coming out so I bailed. To be fair, my rating of the game could possibly be higher if I had played and loved the raid.

All in all I am probably 50/50 on buying Destiny 2.

great mechanics, terrible everything else. the content lacking DLC announcement killed any faith i had in the series, and i regret getting the digital guardian edition.

I still play whenever I get the chance. The progression is tedious and repetitive, but I'm still progressing. I have a bit more work to do in PvE, and then PvP will still be fresh to me since I've stayed away for the most part.

It is what it is, flawed and just a sliver of what it could be, but its open enough for me to make my own fun.

I bought it for the PvP. It was utter rubbish. I traded it in. If I ever feel the need to play a MMO again I'll re-sub to WoW.

It's my go to multiplayer game. I tend to play one story driven game (will be DA:I) then break it up now and again by playing a pvp game etc.

It's all about the raid, Bungie should have communicated that better or something.

PvP was disappointing.

I enjoyed it, but whether or not I get the sequel depends on where the focus is. 1 raid (with a 20-30 hour playtime entry requirement) probably won't be enough to persuade me next time, although by no means do I regret my purchase

I really like Destiny, even with its flaws it's been a real fun game. When I got it I couldn't put it down and played it pretty much nonstop during my free time the first three weeks. The crucible has been a fun multiplayer activity for me, and I really enjoyed just going through all the levels and having fun in them. It's been one of the most enjoyable fps games I've played in a long time.

But I haven't played the game in a while mainly cause the end game is not to my style. The constant having to grind just for the hope of maybe getting some good armor was getting too frustrating for me at times. But the thing I hated the most was how so much of that endgame content you have to have friends to play with in order to play them. None of my close friends play destiny at all, so I've had to rely on trying to join clans online with people I don't know at all in hopes of playing a game. Unfortunately my few times I've played that way hasn't been the most enjoyable for me. It's been quite disappointing as I want to play all that content, as well as the upcoming expansion content. I just wish I could just jump in a raid with random people and didn't have to use the voice chat as I'm so shy about things like that. I'm more of a quiet online gamer.

I'm going to jump back into it though. I love the game and I really want to try and get into the raids. I'll give the groups another try and hopefully find an enjoyable experience sometime soon. Still I wish I could just play that content the way I like it like I can play most multiplayer games.

Are you on PS4 or XB1? If XB1 shoot a message to LifeExpectancy. We will bring you along for the ride in a raid with us, and you don't have to use your mic. Just listen and follow directions and you'll do fine. If you're on PS4, I wish you the best of luck.

The raid is literally the only reason Destiny is worth a damn content wise (the gunplay is great too, but the grinds are asinine, especially having to farm chests to upgrade gear, and the crucible is garbage imo). So I hope you get to enjoy the raid.

I couldn't get into the story (if you can call it that). I didn't like the crucible. The strikes were fun. My biggest pet peeve was how the enemies always spawned in the same location. I did sink in about 50 hrs with friends, so overall it was worth the 64$ to me. I think they had a good idea with destiny, just didn't execute it all the way. I don't mind grinding, but grinding for 5+ hrs to get from 22 to 23 There's only so much I can handle. Another positive is that it got me excited for the chief collection. I won't be purchasing the dlc, but would give their next game a shot.

Bought it on a whim after enjoying the gunplay from the beta. Traded it in the same week for pretty much my money back. Shallow game full of grind, too many other better options to play.

Damn, people aren't allowed to share opinions in a Destiny opinion thread without the Destiny defense force popping in. So sad.

In Destiny threads just ignore people with Destiny emblem on avatars. By putting this brand of shame they make it easier for normal folks to ignore their nonsense.

I like the game but often feel left out. I feel left out because the meat of the gameplay IMO (raids) are inaccessible to me due to where I am in my life. That's kinda frustrating. However, I have met some great players during the two opportunities I've had to participate in a raid.

Additionally, I'm very disappointed that PVE players such as myself have little to no content included in the next DLC.

there is nothing left for me but playing the Raid and nightfall, thats the only time I feel like this game is fun. the rest is just waste of time.

I got both my characters to lvl 30, I dont need any more exotics
