Ubisoft launches live blog to address AC Unity issues, next update detailed

I feel like most of these issues were already things Ubi was aware of well before launch.

Putting up some "Live Blog" makes it seem like a half-assed attempt to be appear surprised that so many people are reporting low frame rates.

There is no way they did not know they were releasing broken shit. I don't blame the actually programmers working on the game. I am sure they told their management of all the bugs and performance issues they were still working on. This was definitely a management decision to release the game anyways. Now the PR machine is trying to salvage their image.

This is Ubisoft. Don't count on it. They are working on the next iteration and couldn't give a fuck about fixing a game that suckers already bought day one. These suckers will preorder their next game. The money is in the bag for them.

I saw one video where an NPC right by camera was undergoing huge LoD changes while simultaneously spasming violently enough that she would have broken her own spine in multiple places IRL.

hoping they get the game fixed up, and lock down performance. I want to eventually get it on PS4. Looks pretty fun. Will likely be cheaper then too.

That happened to me. I was walking down a street and a bloke just appeared in front of me in polygons and LOD loaded in slowly and was just spazzing out.

And the most cool thing?
I'm kinda sure that "framerate" issues they talk about could be about that popular indoor church part without any NPC in sight that stutters like mad, not the game as a whole.

They said the frame rate was around 10fps at around 10 months back so they knew it was a struggle and released it anyway. They were not done yet.

Ubisoft thanking everyone for taking part in their $60 beta so the people who buy the game in a few months half price can play bug free.

This game really should not have come out this year. Problem is it is a yearly franchise so whatever gotta get it out of the door in time for the holidays. They can always fix it later right? All these fools but it anyway.

The content in there I like a lot, but the bugs and the framerate ruin the whole experience. I won't be touching it until the framerate is fixed. Between this and Masterchief Collection I am very disappointed.

Probably! I can't see developers understanding sub 30fps framerates as a bug like NeoGAF does.

Not surprised... For some reason Ubisoft sucks at optimization and Q&A. Especially when the pc platform is concerned. They wont get the message til people stop buying their games.

seems like the gfx update will not be in the next patch but the next after that.

Also, I take this "gfx patch" with tons of grains of salt...

its Ubisoft...

Yes, but look were EA is now...DA is one of the best games on the market currently. they analyzed their mistakes and found what we the player wanted. They came out of the gate and said Skyrim was a huge influence on how their game played and worked. EA is a much better company than it was from a few years ago. That's not to say ME3, DS 3, or BF4 didn't happen but it looks like EA is learning that if you make a good game, market it a little and let word of mouth do the rest you can save on cost and garner praise from us gamers. EA is learning, this might be the start of Ubisoft learning too.

The fact that people like you, and so many others, forget what EA did before is pretty saddening.

Do people easily forget that EA does this in cycles? Remember when they had the initiative to release new unique games like Dead Space, and Mirror's Edge? People were also saying they learned from their mistakes.... then we got Dead Space 3, Mass Effect 3, BF4....hell even the BF: Hardline is utter garbage - it's a lazy mans mod, because why give modding to the community who could do a better job, gotta get that BF money.

EA is no better than Ubisoft, EA is just on a cycle, so is Ubisoft. They haven't learned anything, they just learned how far they can push before the consumer pushes back, and they will keep doing it to see how far they can get away with certain things. EA and Ubisoft will never change, they will also do what's best for the company, not what would be in the best interest of the consumer, because you know $$$.

It's a rare breed to find a game developer who actually cares about the consumer, even a little bit, and is becoming more and more of a rarity. Which is a damn shame. I understand companies need to make money and it's all about profits, but sometimes in all of that shit show the consumer has to be remembered, otherwise you are going to be left with nothing one day.

This "blog" should have been released on Monday, not now.

It's as if all of Ubi's responsible guys were totally drunk through the launch preparations and are only just sobering up.

"Whaddayou mean, graphics glitches? We have an army of shit QA somewhere in Bulgaria!"

"What are you saying, game breaking bugs? This cannot be true."

They forgot to thank everyone for beta testing the game for them.
I wonder how many things were brought up by the people testing but were ignored by management because it was not part of the test, for example testing co-op connectivity and pointing out graphical issues, only to have that concern ignored.

It would be very interesting to hear this kind of info from Ubi's QA enironment for sure.
Would like to hear everything. Damn NDAs...

I bet they tested the microtransactions system ad nauseam. Gotta have your priorities straight, right Ubischmuck?

And yet it still does not work AFAIK.

My Twitter is filled with angry people who shelled out for the Premium Companion App and it did not even register on the servers.

Why not fix your game before selling it?

Didn't they delay it once because they "would never release" a broken ac game?

The industry has changed.
Pre-orders fund patches and season passes find dlc?

They should reduce the NPC numbers by half and make the AI more compelling. As it stands now, those NPCs are about as useless as Marie Antoinette´s economic input. I honestly think that the guy who pushed for those numbers despite the technical failures should be booted from the company.

Like who the fuck actually cares about having that many glitchy NPC (cause the graphical glitches with the textures every single second is pretty much a feature at this point) ?

How was that not obvious that they had to get rid of them ? To fix the whole game ?

So it should be a solid game from a technical point by the time it's dirt cheap.

I'm curious to see if they can bring the frame-rates to an acceptable level.

No complaints about making the AI more compelling, certainly wouldn't mind that, but I hope they don't reduce the NPC numbers, I love the huge crowds.

Kind of crazy how Unity is actually an early access game. None of those points they mention should be in the final product of a high-profile project that costs this much and has so many people working on it.

It's so embarrassing.

Agreed, too little too late. Try finishing the game BEFORE it's released, what a novel idea! GTA V here I come (again).

It's funny that Unity actually runs okay on PC (see PC Performance thread) if you have a good modern rig. There are glitches, but apart from AMD bug, it's playable, i.e. not Watch Dogs. I pity those who bought it on consoles, though, it's the first AC I didn't get on Playstation because the whole parity seemed fishy to me.

Is that a joke ?

Those crowds don't just ruin the framerate, they are absolutely NOT functional.

You think it's K to have their animations literally glitching every second, as well as swapping textures PERMANENTLY and dropping their shadows randomly depending on your camera angle ?

Never have I seen a game ruining its own immersion so much before.

Keep them on PC sure, but at this point there is no way in hell they fix this mess on ps4, so getting rid of some of them is the only solution.

Oh and it kills the framerate, too.

This is how it should work in this case. They acknowledge issues with the game and work to fix it. So as much as people would like to shit on Ubisoft some more, this announcement is only a good thing.
How is this a good thing?
They knowingly release a broken product. 99% of these issues were probably reported in Q&A
They didn't give a fuck and release the product anyway
This is not then being proactive but reactive to all the bad press and gamer outrage.
