I really can't get over how great this Black Heart gimmick in WCW is. It's just two guys in masks screaming and making illuminati symbols. And it's funnier than any skit the WWE has ever come up with. And the fans do it back to them during the match.

Owen was the better wrestler. Owen was the better character. Bret was *fantastic* don't get me wrong, but Owen was way more fun and put on better matches.

I love Owen but I can't say he's the better wrestler.
He's a more interesting character and better commentator and the two of them together work magic in the ring. Owen's strengths in the ring lie in quick pacing/good comedy/great selling while Bret was the one who could have a main event match with anyone and really sell the drama of the whole thing.

I always liked Owen better than Bret. Owen was solid in-ring, but not as good as Bret, but had so much more character and charisma than Bret. Just a more entertaining overall package.
He was more athletically gifted, but saying he put on better matches is totally subjective. Bret was a master storyteller.

I barely remember anything Owen did outside of feuding with Bret, winning the KotR, and. carrying around a Slammy.
Wrestlers sweat on each other, grind on each other, and even bled on occasions. Saliva seems like the tip of the iceberg :/.
Even if he's not in my top 10 (probably in my top 25), I will conceit that Bret Hart is the absolute king of carrying people through matches. That there's no one better because his ego won't let him have a terrible match, and he had more than enough opportunities to prove that with the roster he had to pick from during that era.

I just find Owen's matches a lot more entertaining I guess. His interactions with the crowd, his selling, all that stuff, really rubs me the right way. I think he could have had great main event matches with anyone... but it never really came to that.
I prefer his match with Austin to Bret's... I think the part where he nearly killed Austin sort of distracts people from how good that match was. Fairly... and I think it's fair to point out that Bret didn't nearly kill Austin in their match. But I'd rather watch that one again.
In Owen's defence, the way he reacts after dropping Steve on his head was incredibly professional. Instantly realizing. Stalling really smartly so the ref could make sure Steve wasn't dead, and still putting Steve over.
Oh I know and it goes with the territory.

It was odd he did Punch Drunk Love at all, so at odds with everything else he had done since the 90's. He's made a great career out of making shit movies that somehow always make a profit. Dude loves the lowest common denominator. And dick jokes. And racism.

He was in one of the best tag teams of all time with the British Bulldog.
I'm not a huge fan of babyface in peril types. I can't stand Hogan. Never liked Cena. Never rated Ray as highly as most do (though, some of his matches with Malenko and Eddie were as good as anything I've seen). Bret was a straight babyface. Then Bret was a straight bad guy. Everything he did, he did really well... but Owen did everything with more personality.
Edge is probably my favorite wrestler for those kinds of reasons. He's certainly not the best technical guy to step between the ropes (I'd put Regal, Malenko, and Crispin ahead of Bret in that category, just off the top of my head).
In terms of most convincing looking guy in the ring... probably Shamrock. But that's kind of cheating I know.

Off the top of my head, the best example of him carrying someone is his match with Bulldog in '92. Apparently Bulldog was getting super heavy into drugs around this point or whatever, and Bret was just like "it's cool, I'll take care of it". And probably carried him to the best match of his career.

The real neat thing about both Bret and Owen (though Bret especially) is that they didn't really have set finishing moves. Before you say, "What about the Sharpshooter, Man God?" and I'll tell you to go back and watch some more of their matches. Lots of situational stuff; rollups, crucifix pins, maybe a suplex into a pin. Now you may think this goes counter to wrestling in the era they were in; you'd pop the crowd by putting on that Sharpshooter and getting the submission but in fact its even more exciting when the victory comes out of nowhere.
Bulldog's best ever match is with Bret...but it's not SS 1992. It's In Your House V! A seriously entertaining and wildly overlooked match.

Yep. Way more impactful that way too. These days if someone hits a finisher, one of the times they do it will be the finish. It just feels more organic to win in odd, random or just out of nowhere ways. Because you never know which pinfall will end it.
While I wouldn't call it carrying because Booker had noticeable talent before that, I think his feud with Booker was what made people really notice Booker. He also had the best matches of Kevin Nash's career(and to be fair to Nash, Bret says those are probably his favorite matches of all time as well), he's got a really underrated match with Mankind as well, I think the storytelling in his rematch with Yokozuna is amazing, and the match with X-pac/1 2 3 Kid is also probably one of my favorites of all time. And that's the ONLY X-pac match that I would ever give that kind of clout to.

I liked when they were originally billing DBry as a submission specialist, and he wasn't always just doing the same submission. I mean, people can understand that a guy knows loads of submissions and be like "will this one get the tap!". It's always really interesting when someone reverses the other wrestler into a submission you haven't seen from them before...
but in the current product, that just means that that's their new submission and that's the one submission they're going to do from now on.
DBry could do that stuff in match after match. The crowd would be able to understand that any time he slaps on a submission that it could lead to the tap. I hate when you have wrestlers that do various submissions but only have one submission that ever gets the tap. Cena comes to mind there, but he's far from the only example.
Watching the New Generation a lot lately and 1-2-3 Kid is super duper underrated. He's so fucking fast in that ring and he has such a natural feel in there. If he had stayed healthy and sober the entire time he would have been an all time great.

Yep. I loved X-Pac growing up. He was just a blast to watch. My little brother was a huge Kane mark (no, I'm not related to SoulPlaya) and we were pretty damn hyped when they were paired up. According to the Attitude Era podcast, from what I gathered X-Pac was one of the top workers, and was often used as a measuring stick for whenever a new guy was brought in to the company. So they'd drop him in a match with him and he'd basically let them know what, if anything the guy was lacking. He's easily one of the most underrated ever, and I think it's because of his personal issues that caused that problem. I think he could've had a fun main event push for a little bit.
Him breaking Kane's heart is how the X-Pac heat started. People turned on him wildly after that and it just kept getting worse because no matter how often Kane beat the shit out of Pac he'd always win the emotional war.
After that his stint as one of HHH's goons constantly torturing Foley and that Uncle Kracker song basically doomed pac to being Heel 4 Lyfe.

I thought it was because he used to beat the shit out of Torrie while kane was in love with her? and eventually she even got with him, and his heat was fucking nuclear by that point.
I also remember how that was a big angle for Kane, he showed some compassion when DX too out X-Pac and everything :c I loved that whole thing.
