I'm assuming they hid major landmarks/cities/Hyrule Castle in that huge zoomed out overworld map to avoid spoiling it all. I would guess that the Castle town would go in the center with those rivers surrounding it?

No they showed everything, the game will be about riding horses in an barren over world /sarcasm

I will never understand the "so boring" comments about open world games showing their open world and vast plains.

I really enjoyed what was shown.

I must be the only person who enjoyed Twilight Princess' horse combat. It was the first time zelda actually felt fun to just simply play. They cant make this world big enough or empty enough for me as long as i can ride around and fight enemies.

So relieved to not actually be worried about a nintendo game for once while everyone else is in a panic. Do your thing Eiji. You got this.

I'm more hyped than ever. And the fact that Nintendo won (and IS imo) the developer of the year, i'm not worried at all. The games Nintendo has put out for Wii U so far has been incredible, and i don't think they'll stop now. Of course, there were things that didn't look finished. Like the gyro-controls and the lack of enemies. But i'm a 100% sure that this, mostly, was to show us "a little more" of how the game looks.

Zelda is my favorite franchise ever, and this looks like a big milestone.

Trust me, I have adequate levels here. I expect the overworld to be uneven and even sparse, but I like that they're going back to the sense of scale and "journey" that got lost as Zelda lagged behind the west in open worlds.

It was especially evident SS's gamey and dungeon-like overworld. And I like SS. But there was a flow that was lost in making non-dungeons and dungeons basically the same and the world felt very gamey. I need more immersion and breaks from the puzzle formula... and this game can probably deliver that.

I'm not getting my hopes up anymore that.

I'll be honest: A big, open world has always been kind of a turn off for me. Quality over quantity, you know? But I get the point about immersion.

I was just warning not to mix up excitement with the feelings of nostalgia because that's always a little dangerous.

Everything they've said in interviews makes me feel pretty confident, though, and I've never really disliked a Zelda. I just hope that we get a good number of well designed dungeons and it isn't held back like in TWW.

Watching the video that Nintendo uploaded, we can see a waterfall in the far distance, when they first wide shot of the terrain. Additionally, just before Link approaches the wild horses, as they announce Star Fox before Zelda next year, there's a rock that appears to have some kind of figure on it. It looks deer like, but it's not moving.

Also, when they show off the map for the first time, there's, what looks to be, an icon for a village or castle about an inch behind Link's player marker.

So, rewatched the trailer uploaded by Nintendo, some stuff stood out:

1 - Very nice lighting.

2 - Trees are very very bad, I think that most are placeholders though, as they seem simple copy paste jobs.

3 - When they zoom with the camera to look at the tower, the whole scene seems to be made in paint and the geometry is overly simplified, really looks bad.

4 - Clipping, which most likely won't be in the final version.

5 - Amazing grass.

6 - Ground textures seem dull, but of course, the off tv and low quality make a fair assessment impossible.

7 - Incredibly huge overworld.

8 - The slow mo jump felt off, like he was stalling in midair instead of slowly falling down.

If you pay attention, the hill where he views the sunset from is very, very close to the hill from the first trailer. You can see the village in the area between that cliff and the beacon.

When used effectively, large open spaces can convey an impressive sense of scale.

It's one of the reasons I love sailing in Wind Waker so much. Yeah, it's a bit empty, but that's kind of the point. It's an ocean, and it feels like one.

That's not to say I want this overworld to be completely lifeless, but if you overdo it and make the overworld too stuffed with content, it can break the immersion and make it feel game-y. It's a delicate balance.

You do realize that an overwhelming amount of feedback has been positive right?
Yeah, there's even people (like myself) who are MASSIVE Zelda fans and are being positive while still having complaints. Everyone, it's okay to have mixed feelings on something, it's not a black or white thing.

People need to stop bitching about people voicing opinions on what they saw. It's a year out? Well we have what we were shown, we have to judge by that, not by what the game could end up being.

R... Right!
Uuuuh...
I guess the feeling of it being milked finally kicked in.
And looking at that chart... Wow, I should really emphasize finally.

Keep in mind that the first half only has console titles and the second half also includes all of the handheld titles. If we went only by console titles it wouldn't look nearly as crowded.

I thought it looked amazing, I bought a WiiU in anticipation for this. I don't even like Zelda, but I was getting some heavy Miyazaki vibes from the original trailer and that sold me. I hope we get some better quality footage soon!

Because they're boring? All they do is get in the way of the good part, which in this case would be the side quests and dungeons.

I wish they wouldn't do that whole "super stilted awkward conversation that is genuine we promise" thing so much. But oh well.

This. I can't stand gyro controls for aiming and swinging the gamepad around would get old fast.

Just woke up, watched it, and the first thing I thought was this. I like to spend a good few hours per play session with a Zelda titles, having to wave that massive controller around constantly for that long would just be horrible. Really hope they have multiple control options, including Wiimote for the waggle loving nutters and proper normal controller.

Other than that, yeah, that was alright. Bit boring, a sadly kind of empty looking world for the most part, and the fact that it was off screen meant it looked very last gen to me, but it's still an obviously very pretty art style, and the movement and animation was sublime.

Overall it put a slight dampener on my excitement, but as long as there's enough to see and do in the final build, and they don't ruin it with this generations fad controller, like SS, it should be fun. Hopefully.

It also has all the re-releases, which I guess count but not really

I really hope that they don't go on about the open world next time we see this game. You've shown us that you've made an open world Nintendo. Now lets get to the meat of things. I want my dungeons. Also, we'll probably get a totally new item or two that are meaningful for gameplay.

I thought this too, but I wouldn't be surprised if that is the intended effect. You only get to do it once per battle. Charge into a mob of moblins, pop one out, take our your sword, go to town, and hop back on Epona in search of the next victims.

Made some more gifs from the higher quality footage. They're pretty big so I hope your browsers and your bandwidth forgive me.

I wonder if this going to be THE legend of Zelda.

You know what I mean.

The one to join all fans in one game to held as the best one yet.

The open world of the original.

The challenge of the second one

The perfect structure of Link to the Past.

The hand crafted feeling of Link's awakening.

The excitement of exploration of Ocarina of Time.

The increidible world building and character of Majora's Mask

The heart of Wind Waker

The masterful dungeon design of Twilight Princess.

The playfulness of the DS games

The nostalgic feeling of A link Between worlds.

The beautiful aesthetics of Skyward Sword.

And all other stuff I can't remember now.

The metallic hit sound for arrows doesn't make much sense. That should be for hitting armour and a swooshing ripping sound for health-reducing hits.

But why should we?
I am just saying, Nintendo has this huge pool of IPs, and I know everyone talks about this and repeats this on every Nintendo-related thread, but they could really... Take a step away from Zelda, at least for another year or so.

Then again, I do agree with many people here about it going to be delayed until 2016, which would really be a good thing because there's time for the excitement to grow.

It's weird because for me personally, I'd even prefer another Mario game, and I couldn't tell you why considering that release history.

Nintendo shows in-game footage at E3 and claims it is real time in-game footage - People say it's fake

Nintendo shows in-game footage off screen to prove it's really real stuff - People ask why is it shot off screen

Seems like they just can't win

Looks good so far. It's nice to see another Zelda with a huge open world... none of the 3D installments have really captured the openness of the original games. I don't mind having a big, sparse world to traverse. One of my favorite early 3D games was Asheron's Call, which had an enormous world with a real sense of distance between locations. That game had a lot of rough edges, but I loved embarking on marathon trips across that world. The Elder Scrolls games are probably a better known example of what I want, but ironically I never really liked that series due to other gameplay elements. If this new Zelda game can deliver a compelling world to explore along with classic Zelda gameplay and charm, then I'll be ecstatic.

Wow, I didn't think they would show it again before E3. It looks great, but there's still a lot to be done. Next year should be good for Wii U.
