Anyone eles notice the Skull Lake on the North East section of the map?

What strikes me as really great are how long those rivers are, if that small chunk of land in the demo took that long to traverse. I wonder if swimming will be a big thing in this game, considering the vast amount of water. Hopefully it's like MM swimming and not SS. If no MM swimming, then at least a water vessel, like... maybe a boat ;_;

Based on the over world map shown + last year's reveal. It seems like Link was standing in the bottom left corner during the reveal last year. Since Death Mountain is at the top right, and Hyrule is probably in the middle.

I really hope they reach that quality in the end product. Shown footage from today looks much less detailed, but impossible to really tell from off-screen.

Wait, why didn't they show off the amiibo support in the demo.... damn..

I honestly don't think it matter what Nintendo showed, fans would cheer, non-fans would deride it, and it will go on.

Looks good but those barren fields..., I always thought it was the case on TP cuz tech limitations, but I see is Ninty not having a clue.

Now let's hope that in another 10 years they get open world design.

I think the overworld is going to be similar to Shadow of the Colossus, too, although there will be a bit more to do since there will be NPCs and enemies to fight and other stuff to collect and whatnot. The real action will take place in the dungeons. I'm ok with that. It'll be a good contrast between exploring freely and then suddenly you're in a dungeon doing all sorts of fighting and puzzle solving.

Take out the remakes and you're looking at the last mainline Zelda in 2011, and before that in 2006. And the last handheld Zelda in 2013 and before that in 2009. This is hardly milking. Hyrule Warriors is a completely different genre than other Zeldas, to add that in is like saying there are too many Mario games and including Mario Kart on the list.

I don't get some people's need to re-buy old experiences. If I haven't played a game, a remake simply gives me the opportunity to add an enhanced version of the game to my backlog and subtract the old one. Big deal. Completely ignorable.
We were talking about the way the Zelda name gets plastered everywhere, not necessarily mainline titles or spin-offs or whatever.

This barren over world thing is way over blown, when I play AC3/4 and I go to the woods there is nothing there but tress, water and grass, then I will see a few animals, GTA woods nothing much there, Skyrim nothing much there.

I care more about once I get to towns that its not lifeless and feels like a real town with people going about their daily lives.

Out in the open I dont expect to see a whole lot going on, of course their are gonna be areas out in the woods with creatures and enemies. But what was shown today is just how big the world is and how riding Epona will be.

The game looks gorgeous and I cant wait to see more.

Thank you for saying this. People were expecting this to be a Zelda Direct or something showing off bosses, dungeons and story.

It's your right to be excited. I honesty wish I could experience child-like wonder and amazement at things I've seen a dozen times before just because they're now associated with an IP I like.

Lol, dude calm down. I mean the guy just stated that he was excited about something and you just jump in and say "well other companies have done it before". I mean do you go into other threads and tell someone this? Because I can guarantee that there is are many threads with a games that people are hyped for that does things that have been done before. Why just signal out this game and the folks who are excited for it? Genuinely curious here.

Couldn't the fields just be barren tho because they were wanting to only show off the world? When SE showed off FF15s world they disabled many of the mobs and monsters cause they were showing off the world, maybe thats what they are doing here? The game is also a year out based on what they said and maybe the game isnt running well enough to show off enemies in the world. Idk just a possibility.

Of course they world could always end up being barren at release, but I don't see the need to judge that aspect of it based on this video. There's clearly much work to be done. Let's see how its looking at E3, which is when they were originally saying we'd see it next before this show happened.

That said I was super hyped when watching this and can't wait to play it.

How is zelda miked? We get a main line I once every 4/5 years.

Well, ever since nintendo montreal started outsourcing work to nintendo montpelier to just take the existing open world zelda engine and put it into new settings, getting a new zelda game every year has really started to wear on the audience. After last year's buggy mess that was ALBW and then nintendo having to cancel the season pass, fans lost a lot of confidence in the series. They really do need to cut back and take a year off to rethink things.

Fuck. That game looked awesome. What the hell is up with people dissing the the game? I look forward to all the crow eating when the game is released. You know the game is going to end up amazing. Metacritic over 90.

Oh shiiiit!!!!111 That looks amazing! Though I'm still not convinced they can make it look as good as the picture (kinda hard to tell how good looking the game is graphically since it's off-screen). Anyways, this will definitely be day 1, and it's awesome to get an updated confirmation that we're still getting it next year.

Edit: Just to make sure, this is the picture I'm talking about, though I think we all know that.

There's just no way the game will look this good.

I don't know but ALL THAT WATER MEANS BOATS RIGHT?!?!? PLS NINTENDO.
Please have boats, fishing, underwater worlds/areas to explore, Zoras, etc... all of it together this time.

Please let Link have a jump button and let Epona turn into Pegasus and fly...no more Super Mario type canons to launch you to the sky world.

Also I want Super Mario Universe: Galaxy 3 sooooooooo badly!!!!!

R... Right!
Uuuuh...
I guess the feeling of it being milked finally kicked in.
And looking at that chart... Wow, I should really emphasize finally.

Milking?

Here are the main line Zelda games on consoles and their release dates.

1986: Zelda - NES
1987: Adventures of Link - NES
1991: A Link to the Past - SNES
1998: Ocarina of Time - N64
2000: Majora's Mask - N64
2002: Wind Waker - Gamecube
2006: Twilight Princess - Wii
2011: Skyward Sword - Wii
2015: Zelda U - Wii U

That will be 9 Zelda games on home consoles in 29 years when Zelda U is released. The last new Zelda game on a console was 2011.

They release 1 to 2 Zelda's per generation on consoles.

Not a Majora fan, and do you honestly think this game will have repetitive Ubisoft missions?

no, but past experience has prepared me for tedious fetch quests, bug hunts, or long travel time to get to an island that wasn't even worth it, so I don't want to jump to any conclusions.

Why does no one here realize this is a GAMEPLAY DEMO. The reason the world looks so empty is that it is still basically a tech demo not the final game. I'm sure the map they showed is real as well as the size, but they obviously haven't set most of the game world up yet.

Not every Zelda fan likes open world games. That combined with the less than stellar Link Between Worlds has me worried about this game.

I assumed this thread was for reactions of any sort, not just positive.

I'm honestly baffled by how bad this reveal was. seriously, they emphasized waypoints. WAYPOINTS. they could have reshown the first Oblivion trailer and it would have been more impactful. I don't understand what people are getting hyped about based on what they saw in that footage.

Eh hope they manage to fill in the landscape more, looks really barren and the visuals certainly aren't helping. Looks gorgeous in grasslands but the trees and rock textures aren't so hot, though that's no surprise given the hardware. I feel conflicted about this tbh, I love Zelda games but I'd really prefer a smaller world with more focus on individual areas. I want a hand crafted feel, not a terrain generator 2015 one. If I want that I'll go play Arma.

Maaan, I guess the reason Nintendo doesn't show off Zelda games before e3 is because they're actually not ready to be shown. I'll eat crow now.

So incredibly shitty...

Basically like TP, which was underwhelming. I was expecting more in that front, I don't know why bother then, I'd rather take the hub design from SS.

I hope you're right, but then they've never revealed a game like this, and in 3D Zelda games you don't usually get out of the main town till you have the tunic, so eh, I don't know I'm worried.

Anyways...

That's one huge tower. :O

Maybe this Link is a wanderer and doesnt live in a town? Or maybe hes from a small village without any real borders and stuff.

I suppose I've finally gotten too old to care about trailers and vertical slices; I don't want to be sold the "dream" anymore.

I'm much more interested by honest development videos and scenes of what a game actually looks like when you are sitting there screwing around. If GTA was revealed in a dev video and someone was just running around shooting a few bad guys, experimenting with cars, and taking a cruise, guess what: that's reality. That's what most people are going to be doing most of the time when playing Grand Theft Auto.

Yet so many people become more and more jaded, wondering why nearly every big game brutally disappoints them after months of drooling over carefully arranged beauty shots and highly edited, artificially set-up "gameplay" trailers.

You're one of my favorite posters and I don't know why so many ignore your posts :C. I agree with you. I really love this kind of thing where we see devs playing a game and showing it off to people rather than CG trailers. There's a feeling that they have confidence in their work to show it off even if it's in the early stages, and that just makes me feel more interested and confident to be there day 1. It often cuts through some of my jaded feelings on the industry and I welcome this approach.

I posted this after the E3 reveal, and I'm so glad that it looks likely to happen (except for the Loftwing bit, that seems like a stretch). I didn't even think of underwater though. Daaaaaaaamn, that would be amazing.

Just imagine the soundtrack in this game. the Overworld theme while running through those Ghibli-eske landscapes. Just imagine the night scenery with a full moon. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!

This is a sneak peak. They are just showing of some of the small features they have.....

Features , that may not be new to gaming, IS new to the Zelda series.....

what is your deal?

Since when has Hyrule had a beach? If anything, this is Termina or Koholint
