Hard not to think (and hope) there's some inspiration coming from this:

I just can't get into 3d zeldas anymore that try and emphasize huge open worlds. I don't have the attention span for that as I get older. I thought oot an mm did it right with the over world.

But why should we?
I am just saying, Nintendo has this huge pool of IPs, and I know everyone talks about this and repeats this on every Nintendo-related thread, but they could really... Take a step away from Zelda, at least for another year or so.

Then again, I do agree with many people here about it going to be delayed until 2016, which would really be a good thing because there's time for the excitement to grow.

It's weird because for me personally, I'd even prefer another Mario game, and I couldn't tell you why considering that release history.

Skyward Sword came out in 2011......

This will come out in 2015.

That is plenty of time. WW was a remake and ALBW came out in 2013 and is a handheld game.

That is plenty of time inbetween console releases.

Plus the Wii U is on borrowed time and probably will get replaced in 2016.

This is the sort of thing I imagined for 3D Zelda pre OoT. I don't really understand complaints that the world seems empty, there are a lot of cool details and the Ghibli inspired art style is suited to something with a naturalistic appearance, and I think it fits Zelda like a glove. For the sake of comparison a lot of those 3D Zelda games had the worst of both (fake feeling hub world lacking in content), and since this is Nintendo, I don't really see them sacrificing content purely for the sake of 'atmosphere'. And the atmosphere we are getting feels like a much closer approximation of the feeling of exploration I got from 2D Zelda games.

I wasn't really blown away by what they showed. It looked nice, but nothing that wowed me.

Sadly, I agree, and the cheers from an audience, (where was this shown?), for things that have been done in games for ages almost made me feel sad for the more die-hard nintendo fans.
Yeah, the game will most likely be good....but cheering at a hand glider (sail-cloth) which looks simpler than Just Cause, or the fact that you can shoot arrows while on a horse, it just seems some people give Nintendo a pass on being behind and actually praise them when they start catching up.

i love how everyone else goes for these big bombastic trailers and nintendo's just like "yeah here's the actual gameplay" as they relax casually on the couch

I love this, too. Completely unironically. Stay weird, Nintendo. Please.

I am legitimately concerned about both this and X releasing in 2015. Am I the only one who wants one of them to be pushed back to 2016? That's a whole lot of Wii U open-world fantasy stuff at once, unless X is coming out way sooner than anyone expected.

Guys that was the same in game footage from e3, the angle of the tv is slanted and the camera zoomed away did not show what it truly looked like. Yall need to stop acting so out of bounds.

The metallic hit sound for arrows doesn't make much sense. That should be for hitting armour and a swooshing ripping sound for health-reducing hits.

I think those moblins are part mechanical, just like the spider tank of the last E3 trailer.

It's probably going to be a story of Nature versus Technology, in Miyazaki's style. The game seems to take a little from Mononoke Hime after all. Just like WW took inspiration from Mirai Shounen Conan.

I just love that Nintendo isn't afraid to show off its games, even when they clearly show some early rough spots.

Dude, so without the name Zelda, that was most boring part of the awards? Come on man, you cant be serious.

Imagine someone that isn't familiar with the Zelda franchise. We saw a video where they showed:

- zooming out on a map
- setting nav points
- a horse running around trees
- jumping off a horse and shooting arrows in slow-mo

There was nothing compelling about this footage in and of itself. To someone that's not a Zelda fan, it would come off as a fairly nondescript open-world game.

10 years after Shadow of the Colossus, Nintendo finally gets somewhat serious about the way horses should work in videogames. Glad I don't see any carrot icons, too.

I'll be honest: A big, open world has always been kind of a turn off for me. Quality over quantity, you know? But I get the point about immersion.

I was just warning not to mix up excitement with the feelings of nostalgia because that's always a little dangerous.

Everything they've said in interviews makes me feel pretty confident, though, and I've never really disliked a Zelda. I just hope that we get a good number of well designed dungeons and it isn't held back like in TWW.

Generally, I agree about open-worlds. I personally don't think there aren't a lot of games that have done open-worlds well. Maybe GTA V?

But I don't think that Nintendo would have tackled it unless they had a good sense of how to approach it.

I'm not saying that we should use nostalgia as a yardstick (because everything's going to fall short of it); I'm just saying that they're kinda going for a feeling of Zelda that they've clearly wanted to evoke for a while now, but couldn't due to the technology.

In the end, as long as it has good dungeons (something they've been on top of since TP as far as I'm concerned), I'm cool with it.

I have a feeling X is Summer and Zelda is winter. I'd love
I mean, hate
to be wrong about that.

Also yeah....so many CG trailers and Nintendo is all "Hey let's just play this game lolz and we're on a coach we're so relaxed" it makes me laugh hahahahaha

You can disregard the cheering. The audience was cheering for practically everything for no good reason. This was shown at The Game Awards.

Didn't really care much for what they showed in any aspect. The flipping off the horse was pretty neat though.

Then again I had the same reaction to the Skyward Sword reveal and loved it so whatever.

You are noticing this JUST now?
cbcc8a87e3aae092696b8c59bc1e319d.png

Take out the remakes and you're looking at the last mainline Zelda in 2011, and before that in 2006. And the last handheld Zelda in 2013 and before that in 2009. This is hardly milking. Hyrule Warriors is a completely different genre than other Zeldas, to add that in is like saying there are too many Mario games and including Mario Kart on the list.

I don't get some people's need to re-buy old experiences. If I haven't played a game, a remake simply gives me the opportunity to add an enhanced version of the game to my backlog and subtract the old one. Big deal. Completely ignorable.

I was pretty wowed by The Legend of Zelda. Just the scale of the world, the art style, wild horses in the fields... actually open forests. They have been teasing that since the first reveal of Ocarina of Time. Nintendo is making me re-buy a Wii U aren't they?

R... Right!
Uuuuh...
I guess the feeling of it being milked finally kicked in.
And looking at that chart... Wow, I should really emphasize finally.

Well remove HW and the remakes/masters because those really are optional and the list becomes manageable.

I hope you're right, but then they've never revealed a game like this, and in 3D Zelda games you don't usually get out of the main town till you have the tunic, so eh, I don't know I'm worried.

Anyways...

That's one huge tower. :O

Notice the shield. It's a crappy wooden one. This is clearly early game.

Zelda U will be hated by like half of GAF (If it's really good).

I stopped giving a damn after the Skyward backlash. People can think what they want to think, that's fine, but can't possibly agree with much of the negativity I see. I agree with a few things here and there but nothing game breaking like you'd be led to believe otherwise.

People need to stop using the word empty.

It's the raw size of the world that implies it will have a substantially smaller frequency of interesting stuff happening. No, picking arbitrary herbs, skinning wild animals; this isn't substantial gameplay opportunities; it's repetitive and boring. GTA, Skyrim, Far Cry etc. bore me to death.

Substance is gameplay like puzzle solving and combat, or meaningful NPC interaction i.e. not generic townsfolk with a line of wisdom as in Pokemon. It's logistically impossible to fill this vast world with a density anywhere close to SS.

Between Worlds had a small size, typical 2D Zelda. Don't confuse freedom with sheer scope. It's the scope part that automatically has negative consequences, due to simple logistics.

In the end, as long as it has good dungeons

I think that's what it really comes down to, yeah

right now I'm seeing "now we can do open world stuff like all those other open world games. There's beacons and enemies in the overworld and maybe fast travel maybe".

I mean ok but that's really all that new or exciting in or of itself.

As long as they get the dungeons right, its whatever tho

Xenoblade X is releasing in Japan in the Spring and is supposed to hit sometime in the same year for the west.
