Final Fantasy XV TGS 2014 Trailer: English Voices

I like the voices but I just find how the tone in some stuff kind of changed - Prompto going ham from seeing the Adamantoise to being more like surprised by it.

The lip syncing is gonna need some tuning but I'm sure it won't stay as is either way.

I just actually hate every single voice, like all 4 of them.

Please include a Japanese VO option, SE.

On a related note, it would be hilarious if both Luna and Stella were voice acted by Ali Hillis (Liara from Mass Effect, Lightning from FF XIII).

Ok, now it's the dialogue that's the problem. Your original post makes it sound like just the sound of the voices. A game has much more to offer (potentially, this game could be terrible) than the sound coming from the character's mouths which is where my post was originally coming from. Furthermore, the dialogue could be just as stupid in Japanese.

This is obviously personal opinion, but I don't think I've ever given cheesy dialogue more than a passing thought. Even everyone's favorite "moms are tough." I didn't even remember that line until people kept holding it up as a paragon of bad dialogue.

Audio plays a tremendous role in the immersion of a game. Terrible storytelling [either though writing, delivery or both] can break someones enjoyment of a game. It's great that it doesn't destroy it for you - and for a lot of people it doesn't matter for any game. But for me, it matters a lot.

Square-Enix's dubs haven't been very good, either because the script doesn't allow for decent delivery or the audio director fails to get the right performance out of good talent. Localisation is hard work so I can't rage at these guys, but I was really happy that XIV & Lightening Returns have dual audio features, something the rest of the JRPG industry have been doing for years. More choice for consumers - something I think we can all agree is awesome for everyone.

If it's only going to be in English, and the quality of audio is the same as previous efforts - then I'll probably skip it. If it works well, then I'd love to play a sprawling JRPG in my native language. It's not hyperbole - it's not a knee jerk reaction. It's years of constant disappointment from the same developer.

Okay Nocti's VA already sounds a bit like Sasuke Uchiha so good work SE :p

Everyone sounds good, I;m actually impressed......except for Ignius (guy with glasses) who sounds so out of place.

How can we tell this trailer is real when our eyes aren't real?

Once again American voices that don't use any semblance of subtlety (although the dialog is probably one factor contributing to that). That might be true of the Japanese voices too, but since I can't tell, they're automatically 10x preferable.

What bothers me the most is that Ignis is from Lucis, but he's the only one with the British accent. It's as if they gave him that voice because of some weird, high-cultured stereotype.

Noctis, Ignis, Galdio, all of them should have the same accents. Maybe Prompto as well if they grew up with them.

If Ignis isn't brought up in some outside nation and he's just "there" with a British accent, I'll be pretty upset. Accents go a long, long way in making a game world truly feel alive.

I like Noctis' voice. Not so sure about Ignis' British accent. I miss FFXII's use of accents to mark social classes or characters' origins. Doesn't make sense for him to speak differently from the rest besides the lazy smart=british stereotype. Unless it's a hint that he's actually from elsewhere.

Prompto looks to be the Vanille of this game lol.

One thing I hope there would be subtitles for field conversations, like they did with the XIII trilogy. Especially so if they have dual audio.

I'm pleasantly surprised.

I expected all four of them to be unbearably terrible, but Prompto is not that bad.

I'd still rather hear to nail scraping a black board than having to listen to the other three.

Should have been Troy Baker as Noctis, Nolan North as Prompto, and John dimaggio as Gladiolus. 10/10.

Also considering Prompto is foreign you'd think he'd have the accent.

20 seconds in and I hate it already.

edit: ignis is horrible.

Not really a scenario that warrants saying "already," though. It was always likely that the voices would be pretty jarring to hear initially. It's going to take some time to identity the characters with the English VA, and who knows how long the actors have even had to settle into these roles. I'd be curious to hear how far along the dub is.

The voices sound great. Initially jarring and the dialogue is pretty weird, but it's pretty good for an FF. Theres always going to be people who hate it no matter what, calling it "awful." There's some real awful voice acting , this ain't it.

Noctis and Gladiolus are great

Prompto, eh, why Tidus! Always hated the Tidus VA. But hey, he seems to have gotten better.

Ignis.... oh god, what the shit? It sounds like someone faking an excessive posh English accent. "baaaaa-aaaaa-aaaahhhhth"

Some people are really hating on the voice acting already from only such a short trailer and after hearing Japanese voices for 4 years now, it's normal and we should give it some time.

I like the voice acting, not outstanding, but suiting each of the characters, can't wait to hear more next week.

I think they sound fine. The only one that's sort of iffy is Ignis, and mainly because he sounds... bored I guess? I dunno. Compared to the other guys, his voice sounds the most like it's not coming from a character in the game.

Maybe it's just a consequence of laying an English dub over a trailer previously cut in Japanese.

Jump Festa and the stream are Japan. We will probably not hear anything else until close to the demo launch (since that's apparently dubbed in english too).

edit: Damn you Faaaaaaaalk!!!

I guess they are really proud of their douchebags in a car with terrible aliasing since they keep pimping it around. The trailer with Leviathan was so much better.

Of course the Leviathan trailer was better, it was a target render. At least now they're finally showing real time footage.

The only thing that feels jarring with this trailer is the fact the voices sound like they are playing over everything else. So they feel out of place

Agreed. Bad voice acting/direction.

A franchise that has historically had shitty plots and shittier scripts, has shitty voice acting? what's the big surprise here? Not that the voice acting shouldn't be better, but just the stuff they have to say is cringe worthy regardless of the acting.
