NoA: "there are more great games on Nintendo platforms than anywhere else!"

Is anything factually false on it, as far as info goes? I don't go to metacritic and hate reviews in general, so I wouldn't know.

No. The criteria they used is a little silly but what they are saying is true. Every company makes claims that they have the best games and Nintendo just used some data to back their specific claim up.

Regardless, the idea the the WiiU currently has the best line up of games is fairly common here on GAF. It's strange seeing this singular ad get so many people rilled up.

Truth is not subjective.

The number of "great" games on Nintendo platforms is, however.

They quantify what "great" games are right there in the ad.

Ah, so this is just a case of people not liking the facts then, I suppose. Why anyone would get so worked up over an ad is beyond me, but I guess it hurts when it's something you may not like and it's backed up with a few numbers.

Nintendo taking steps to place themselves the radar again, not bad timing either since alot of factors are nicely aligned.

They need to make it hip to own their products. Hopefully Mario Maker becomes a hit in terms of social media popularity, in the same way MK TV spawned the Luigi death stare meme. This is actually how Nintendo can be successful again, in the Flappy Bird sense.

Well the impressive thing about it is that they only count games with a critical AND user score above 85.

That is not actually impressive, it is intentionally misleading. User scores on Metacritic are demonstrably bullshit. They are frequently thrown off by people trying to intentionally reduce scores. All this shows is that Nintendo games don't typically get as many attempts to ruin score averages by anonymous voters. Its silly to tie a statement of game quality to such a completely illegitimate measure.

Well, I'm never fucking buying Nintendo as a primary console as long as they only have games from a single publisher.

The type of games they make are dead in the AAA space outside of Nintendo systems. It's not like the situation that hey, MS has Forza anyway so I won't miss Gran Turismo if I make the switch. Nintendo systems complement both MS/Sony consoles and indie games, you can't get your quirky Japanese game design fill elsewhere outside of very few examples.

At the core of it, some people here are riled up because it's yet another example of reacting negatively to something not aimed at them. It's the generalized attitude of the "core" audience of a particular demo; a piece of content aimed at anyone else must be illegitame, since I am the foundation of said thing and legitimicy of anyone else is invalid.

I.e I'm mad at this because a company created something targeting parents and children and I am neither, why are you wasting resources, so let me tear it down.

It's a gift guide. People here mostly buy for themselves. Nintendo wins either way since it's a marketing asset that has nothing to do with studio time or development that is clearing created online conversation which ups their mindshare, hence a win

Exactly. If you through out the fanboy metric, this falls apart fast.

User scores are simply a measure of adoration for companies and not a game's quality.

I don't get why some are getting offended or angry about this.

This is an ad that uses some cherry picked criteria that makes this product look better than the others on the market.

They are using a score that a lot of people take in consideration for their purchases.

And they are using a score from the same site that, 1) eliminates most of the competition and 2) for the general public may sound something like "loved by both critics and gamers"

Honestly surprised it isn't higher

Metacritic is too new a site to account for all games properly, especially when it comes to PC, so I imagine there's a good amount missing there too. Not that it means anything in the context of this thread.

Seriously. "Nintendo thinks they have some really good games? What assholes!"
I think it's because Nintendo normally do not engage in list war marketing and them doing it now seems rather odd. I may be wrong though since I hardly ever notice marketing from Nintendo.

VLR? Really? It's like the half life 2 of VNs. How is Nintendo going to tout that game when the Zero Escape series can't even get funding for it's final game?

Using user score is what discredits their claim. User score is utterly meaningless on Metacritic and should never be taken seriously. I know they wanted to heavily skew the information in their chart, but it just looks tacky because of this. They probably would still have the most retail games with 85+ on Metacritic, so including user score is just unnecessary.

They probably wanted to strip out the games vastly overrated in the press.

Edit: Fucking Halo MCC has a Metacritic of 85 and a user rating far lower and it's unplayable so yeah, Nintendo's spin machine sure is up to no good.

That's great Nintendo, so what happens once I'm done with all 18 of those great games? That's right, I jump ship to other consoles that third parties actually support. You might have the most exclusives on your console, but what you don't have is anything else that would make me pick up a controller and play it. I don't mean to sound harsh, I love Nintendo, but they keep on goofin'.
Bayonetta 2 and Xenoblade are published by Nintendo but otherwise developed by third party devs.

Consumers are just as biased if not more so.

This isn't a poll to decide the future of the universe, it's Nintendo bragging about some games. Any consumers who see it will apply this bias and draw their own conclusions.

I have no idea why people are getting bent out of shape about this. Nintendo's in the business of selling video games. It's Friday night and it's almost Christmas. Who cares?

The people complaining in this thread?

I understand why they're doing this but I'm not a fan of using metacritic to sell your system/game regardless of whoever does it.

"rest of the industry" you mean the likes of EA, Activision, Ubisoft, Konami and Capcom?? Yeah they kinda do..

That's the beauty of third party publishers, you don't need to depend on any of them for long stretches of time. You buy and play things that interest you as they're released. The majority of my favorite games last gen were from random third party publishers.
