Sorry to be a killjoy, but why is everyone cheering the OP like he's some sort of magnificent hero? He did the right thing, and certainly deserves a "well done, you did the right thing, good for you", sure. I would say it's not normal adult behavior what he did at all. Most adults I know tend to stay in their shitty relationships even if the person treats them like crap or cheats on them. People tend to think they have to settle cause they will never find something better.

I'm guessing it's because 90% of the time the OP in threads like these will ignore all the advice given to them and cling to some desperate hope that everyone else is wrong, causing themselves a lot of extra pain trying to salvage a doomed relationship when they should have just made a clean break.

It's refreshing to see someone who actually responds to this kind of problem in a fairly adult way, rather than torturing themselves for 20+ pages.

It's just emotional support, even if your idea of it might differ or be a bit more pared back than others, in the long shot people complementing his balls or just saying he did the right thing kinda runs out to mean the same thing, doesn't it?

Break ups suck regardless of if it was the right thing or not, and too it takes a lot of courage to end it on your own terms. However, it's always good to know that people have your back on your choice, and are there to support and reinforce that you made the right decision, since no matter how reasonable a breakup is, there'll be always second thoughts about if you did the right thing.
