I think the lack of centralized Islamic belief structure is quite hurting public perception of the religion. It is completely impossible to say which interpretation of the Qu'ran is correct when there are major differences everywhere and every branch claims the same. There are even differences on seemingly simple stuff like the day Ramadan starts. There is not a single authority that speaks for the entire religion. There is no Pope, there is no Dalai Lama that could be considered worldwide authorities on their religion.
That becomes problematic when you look at news broadcasts. For me personally, I remember Boko Haram, Al-Qaeda, Muslim Brotherhood, Mujahideen, Taliban, Al-Shabaab, Ansar al-Sharia, Hezbollah, Sharia 4 Belgium, al-Aqsa Martyr's Brigade and Hamas. These are muslim terroristic organisations that were mentionned on television in 2014. That is a lot of organisations.
You have some imams denouncing these groups but it is really hard to gather their credentials. What would you say if a random priest from a random country claims that Catholic priests are investigated for sexual acts with kids and that it is just a small minority. It is a lot different if the pope claims that. It is also difficult to know which of these imams can be trusted as at the same time, there are imams under investigation for supporting the earlier terrorist groups. For instance, one of the popular Belgian imams was Iliass Azaouaj, he was killed while fighting in Syria. One of his collegues was suspected of getting young people to join IS.

that is just hardcore though. I mean...they knew there would be a reprisal, but kept pushing the line. I mean, that's journalism and art and expression yeah, but there is also poking the bear you've already seen. Since they were firebombed and have been target of threats for years.
There is principle and integrity, and as fervently as some believe in religion, some others believe in free expression. I get it. I mean even the extremists have to understand that acts like this in the face of the defiance of their victims makes them look weak and misguided, since some people on both sides seem willing to sacrifice their lives for their beliefs.
The problem, or maybe opportunity here, is the cracks. The imagery. No one can justify the acts of these extremists these past months, and it could be perfect time to have not just a conversation but a deliberative assembly with Muslim leaders about not only how to react but how we're all going to agree to view and act against religious extremism in all its forms.

That hasn't been my experience at all with the Muslims I've met in London. They've been very liberal.
There's the occasional street preacher who comes across as a little too devout, but it's no different from a devout using a loudspeaker to shout that the end is coming and that we must repent our sins.
I'd personally like street preaching to be banned, but freedom of speech. Fuckers have ruined every single one of my lunch hours this week with their drivel.

I live in the european country with more muslim immigrants after france and yeaaaah, thats not going to happen.
Lots of muslims can adapt perfectly to their new home, and still hold their beliefs and have numerous places for worship, and don't give a fuck if there is a parody of their god. Then there's the extremists (like the killers or the people that defend their actions), and im not going to respect anything they do, same with catholic or any other type extremists in any other religion or ideology. Fuck them.
Also what are they going to do when other races or idologies have different beliefs that clash with them? they are not the only big immigrant community appearing in these countries.
And once again, it makes no difference to the point he was making. It does seem to be a questionable point, but these fucking weak attempts at rebuttals are even worse.

The article is a fact check of both Maher and Aslan on the issue of female genital mutilation in Africe. Maher suggested it was an Islamic problem, while Aslan suggested it was a Central African problem. Politifact finds that basically Aslan is right. Female genital mutilation is basically centered in Central Africa, in both Christian and Islamic countries, but apparently the Muslims there support the practice (which is where Maher got the idea from). So if evidence were brought to Maher that Christians from America were encouraging people in Africa to cut on women's privates, I imagine he would be pretty upset about it, and would criticize the Christians doing it (I didn't know that was a thing until you brought it up). Maher criticizes Christians all the time. He does the same for Muslims. Just because he's wrong sometimes doesn't make him a bigot.

Most muslims in France are 3rd and 4th generation muslims and come from countries that belonged to our colonial empire. Same thing as indians in britain. We have a long common history. And these are not immigrants who are threatening our society, it's kids born and raised in France, who became thugs in their teens, went to prison and once free got radicalized. These weren't kids who started praying at age 3 and had parents who told them to go behead infidels.

He hasn't officially announced it, by whatever means people are condemning the muslim community for not doing, so, Its safe to say that still going by the logic of him not feeling muslim protest, is an indication of lack of interest. I'm bringing it up because it was listed in the terribad things ISLAM is doing in the world, that muslims all need to officially speak out against. Its a contradiction fueled by the government. As our relationship with Saudi Arabia highlights. The criticisims against Islam, could equally be placated to Christianity in the western world. So when these things and statements are made, they can't be taken from any point of honestly or nobility, imo.
I'm not interested in antagonizing other citizens for some banker to get a bonus. That is what I feel the anti-islam sentiment in the western world is.
