This would be a non-issue if we could charge it via USB with those cables we all own.
regular 3ds xl and 2ds are still on the shelves here in america so thats probably a reason why
no ac adapter is stupid since i need to trade it in with my 3ds xl to get the promo $100 :/
plus, there are tons of people that would have bought the face plates imo , i say that cause i know a lot of guys and girls that change their phone cases each month.
at least have it for sale through club nintendo or nintendo online store, NoA you dummies
OK. That doesn't mean it should be something that the government should mandate, which is what I am saying.
If customers have an issue with it, they won't buy the product.
If they still buy the product, then they have spoken and said this is acceptable for them.
Believing it should be illegal to do so is absurd.
I completely agree that a charger should be included. Got me thinking though, did PSP and PSVita get the same hate for requiring a proprietary memory card purchase to use the system (because who doesn't save their games)?
Some people will defend anything. I'm the biggest devils advocate in the world but come the fuck on people. I thought it was terrible practice in the EU and I think its terrible now. Screw everyone thats defending this

Seems kind of dumb to not release the normal new 3DS since they could sell so many faceplates. I like that it's the same price as the normal 3DS XL and makes it so I don't need to choose which one I want though
I mean, again, from a financial point of view, faceplates should, in theory, reactivate one of the money printing machines in idle inside Nintendo's HQ. Just take a guess about how much they cost for the end consumer versus how much they cost for Nintendo to produce. Take into account that a single owner could buy dozens of those things, and you got yourself an insta-success on your hands. Again, supply constraints?
The scary thing is how accepting people are about it. Like they enjoy spending money on things that should be included. "But other regions did it first!~" - yeesh.
I don't remember seeing people be up in arms about the PS3/360 not coming with HDMI cables which are basically required and they're muchore expensive than the 3ds adapter. How is this any different? They've sold 3ds's w/o the adapter in EU and JP for a long time now and that hasn't damaged their image or sales.
Every single smartphone/tablet (well most anyway since Apple products come with a usb wall adapter) in existence doesn't come with a charger, sometimes not even a un cable because they (rightfully) believe you already have tons of those lying around.so you quoted the guy instead of PMing him?
on topic..
it's a dumb decision. I can't think of any other electronic device that doesn't come with a charger that doesn't use AA/AAA batteries.
Wait. The New 3DS XL comes with NO way of charging it?
It's easy to say this when you don't have the data they do and you don't have to balance a company's bottom line.
$35I keep forgetting that. 64GB microSD cards CAN'T be cheap...
Not that. I was referring to the one SKU, not the AC adapter. If a simple USB cable is going to break your company, your company is already broken.
I said in my previous post I think it's a bad idea to leave out the charger.I'm sure it's really hurting Nintendo, y'know, the multibillion dollar company's bottom line to include a freaking charger.
Nope, especially since I was gonna buy for faceplates. NoA fucked themselves on that one though. So fucking backwards.Until we see if they use the power of the new hardware is there even a reason to by a new 3DS?
"Not acceptable" != "Illegal". Consumers and press should absolutely lambast Nintendo for this regardless of legality. That's what "not acceptable" means to me.
The no AC thing happened in Europe with the XL right? I thought a consumer friendly place like the EU would have laws to prohibit this shit, disgusting.
I keep forgetting that. 64GB microSD cards CAN'T be cheap...
I believe it's actually the opposite, and the reason there is no AC adapter included is because of European laws. European laws prohibit proprietary charges for mobile devices, they require all phone-like devices to use micro-USB chargers, but you can get around that by not including the charger with the product (I believe Apple uses the same trick). Why they're doing it in the US now I wouldn't know. Parity, I suppose? The no AC thing happened in Europe with the XL right? I don't understand the complaint about the lack of an AC adapter. This has already been done in Japan and should have been expected here. Also is this the first time someone is diving into the DS hardware line that they don't have an adapter? SMH

It shouldn't be acceptable in Europe or Japan either. What a horrible argument, you're basically saying "fuck everyone who hasn't bought a DS or 3DS already". Embarrassing defence of this shitty policy.
Not that. I was referring to the one SKU, not the AC adapter.
Would you please read my fucking posts. I AGREE THEY SHOULD INCLUDE THE AC ADAPTER. I'M TALKING ABOUT LEAVING OUT THE REGULAR N3DS.No, it's easy to say because every electronics device I've ever purchased came with a way to make that device work/charge.
I'm most disappointed about the move to micro SD, but the lack of an AC adapter is pretty outrageous, too.
I hope the no AC adapter decision bites them in the ass.
So if it makes so much sense, why isn't every other tech giant doing this? When it could save you tens of millions and simultaneously generate tens of millions by selling said charger without pissing off too many people (remember you are on GAF). Sure it makes a ton of sense. Like a lot of sense.
Or specifically, a DSi or 3DS, because DS and DS Lite chargers don't work with 3DSs!
What's baffling is Nintendo's reluctance to generate goodwill in light of their predicament in the marketplace. You don't want to give us free shit every once in a while? Fine. But withholding a goddamn charging adapter is creating the exact opposite effect of what they should be pursuing given their precarious position in the industry.

Ahem. Thank you.
Actually if you are a Nintendo enthusiast you get free shit ALL THE TIME. Club Nintendo, DDP, and special promotions up the wazoo. Just not physical things. This move is dumb from a consumer stand point, but Nintendo is far from a bad corporation that is just money hungry.
It's also a matter of the retail situation in America, though.Yep, I think that definitely came down to the fact that the XL was far more popular. It just doesn't make sense to sell it in Europe, where the XL also dominated the regular 3DS.
I want this to happen.I hope the no AC adapter decision bites them in the ass. As in thousands of angry support calls, returned systems, or even a class action lawsuit. That's absurd and completely anti-consumer.

It hasn't bitten them in the ass for the two years they have already been doing it. No reason why it suddenly will now.
How is it different in Europe? Nintendo is struggling as badly or worse there. It's also a matter of the retail situation in America, though.

A 3DS usb charging cable is 2$, get one anyway, it's a life (game) saver! This would be a non-issue if we could charge it via USB with those cables we all own.
