I really really wanted this tv. I always take too long to make up my mind and they sell out. I am not sure how the lag would affect me since I dont play online much but it is still the only reason I never pulled the trigger.
I may just save up and get an OLED, but I would settle on the f8500 if it was a definite that the lag wouldnt bother me...if I ever saw one to purchase again!
The screen is rated at 100,000 hours before the brightness begins to drop. Any other component failure can also render a TV inoperable.

I don't have the receipt with me but it was around $2600 after tax. We have close to 10% tax here.
Just tried it at BB, no go. Worker even got a magnolia guy to help me, not sure if he was manager or not but he wouldn't budge. Told me to go buy it at *your* place since they aren't supposed to be pissing off Sony by lowering the price. He pricematch hhgregg for me 10% off but then at final checkout he charged me tax so i said no thanks.

turns out I do not get Dolby Digital on all my plugged-in devices.
here's my current set-up
CableTV -> HDMI 1
PS4 -> HDMI 2
Amazon FireTV -> Soundbar -> HDMI 3 (ARC)
WiiU -> HDMI 4
I get sound output from all the devices via TV ARC (as source) on the Curved Soundbar
but the TV/devices aren't detecting Dolby Digital on any of them, including the Amazon FireTV plugged to the Soundbar
SmartHub Apps output Dolby Digital fine though - any suggestions/ideas?

Thanks. I passed because it was an open box and a piece of the stand was missing. The lag would most likely bother me. So, your post makes me feel better about my decision!
The LG OLED curved is my dream TV.
OLED will hopefully be the "no compromise" TV with the best PQ and lowest IL.
I have been thinking about this tv for that very reason. The review sites I read said you need to use hdmi 5 to reach this level. The two biggest reasons I have yet to buy are because I am saving up for a house and my 42 Panasonic plasma is still going strong.

I bought the KDL-65W950B and input lag and color wise it is awesome, probably one of he best in the industry. But the moment you turn the lights out the blacks are grey so yeah.

I bought that Sharp and returned it the next day. The colors were awful no matter how it was adjusted and I could tell it was a cheap panel. If you need to stay under $350, I'd recommend the Sony 40" that was on sale for $349. The E Series Vizio is okay too with good black levels and low input lag.
So I have the option of picking up a Panasonic 42ST50 for pretty damn cheap but I also have my eye on a decently priced W900 (W905 as it's known here in the UK). In terms of pure visual quality, what set is the better? I watch a lot of blu-rays so the plasma does sound lovely but I don't know if maybe LED has caught up?

That is very depressing to hear considering a few friends recommended that tv to me. I fear there is no real replacement for my Panasonic plasma. It really is a shitty time for quality displays.

I bought a UN48H8000 Samsung Curved 240hz TV today and I'm impressed with black levels. The micro dimming feature gives incredible blacks. I didn't think I'd find another TV I liked as much as my 42" Panasonic ST, but I think this Samsung won me over.

If both TVs are the same size and "quality" (meaning, don't compare a crappy LG to a top of the line Sony), then the 1080 content should look about the same on the 4k TV if it has a good upscaler.
However, if you have a 60 inch 4K, then yeah, 1080 will look worse than a native 1080 TV of a smaller size.

Not until OLED completely replaces LCD most likely. Any 75" and up LCD still costs close to $3000 at the bare minimum so it's going to be a long wait. The 65" will get affordable much sooner.
Am in the market for a new TV and the 4k TV's here in Australia for the size I want are out of my budget. So I cam across the Sharp Quattron Pro LC80LE960X 80 inch. Have read 2 reviews as sharp claim it's 4k compatible and both reviews seem to think it's one of the better TV's and is as good as 4k. Is this true? It's still a $6000AUD TV and I want to make sure it's decent. Is it also good for gaming as well as picture quality.

Just got my TV delivered yesterday, Input lag is really low, it feels like there is none at all. Its even lower than my Sony 70R550A, i am going to sell my Sony and get another Visio in size 70.
Yes you are right its only for HDMI 5, played couple of games yesterday on it with Game Mode on, Game Low Latency on and with Motion Blur on, and is still plays great without any lag
Probably around 5 years. Will be great for the PS5/X4/HyperNintendo(?), same way the 55" 1080p is great for current-gen consoles.
Bit small compared to my 60" plasmid. If it was 60", I'd be tempted. 65" would make me crack.

By most accounts, LG's 2014 1080p OLED's (EC9300) surpassed Panasonic's XX60's and Samsung's F8500 PDP's. 2015 models usher in 4k, so barring any unforeseen issues related to first-gen 4k OLED panels, they should theoretically be what you're looking for. No prices announced, but best case, you're probably going to be talking $3999-$4999 @ 55" though. They're hardly a value proposition like the PDP's were.

I was wondering what everyone's opinion was on the Samsung LED UN46H5203 model was and the Sony LED KDL40W600B. I do not currently have a lot to spend and these 2 are in my budget. I was looking for something with a great picture, low input lag, and less than $500 , but wanted the screen to be at least 40 inches.
Yeah. I have a plasma but I had a LED that had a much more vibrant image with more depth. That being said I do like inky blacks but they're not the most important thing. At least for me, since I mostly play video games that are bright and colorful so the black levels aren't really a big deal as much as the depth of the image and the "pop." If you're playing brown and grey FPS games most of the time then sure, but Nintendo games for instance probably look better on a good LED.

An 80" OLED for 3K? That would be awesome.
I just wish there was more of a scale to the OLED range. At the moment, OLED TVs start at prices beyond even high end LEDs. 90 percent of consumers will never be convinced to buy one, while the 10 percent who do want to buy one, very few can justify putting down that much money.

The difference between, say, 25ms input lag and 40-45ms... Noticeable for the average gamer? I don't do CoD's/twitch shooters.
I ask because I'm tossing up between a Sony with lower input lag and a Sammy with better PQ.
For reference, I've been gaming on a 40" Sammy from around 2011, I think. Possibly the un40c6300, but I'm not entirely sure (model numbers in Australia are all different, yo). So, yeah, I don't know what the input lag is on that bad boy.

No one can answer this question but you. Find out how much lag your current set has and determine how much you're willing to deviate from what you're used to. (How can you not be certain what model TV you have? Check the information on the back panel.)
For my own purposes, any amount of money spent on a set that has more than 20ms latency is money wasted, no matter what the cost. But I am extremely picky on input lag compared to most people and will compromise on virtually any other factor to satisfy that one criteria.

Cheers, dude. I do know the model number, but it's the localised AUS model number (UA40D6000) and I'm getting absolutely nothin' online, nor am I certain of its overseas equivalent.
EDIT: Actually, it's largely irrelevant, as I have played on the Sony set for some time (before returning it due to some bad backlight issues) and found it more than acceptable in terms of lag and whatnot. My issue, then, is whether that extra 20ms will have a noticeably adverse effect or not. Hmm.

I doubt it. At 60fps 25ms of input lag is under 2 frames and 45 is under 3. At 30fps that goes to under 1 and 2 frames of input lag.
Now I'm not saying that no one would notice that and that it is pointless to chase the lower numbers, just that a casual gamer that is probably use to 100+ms of input lag probably will not. If you are use to gaming on old crts or faster gaming monitors on pc then you have a higher chance of noticing the difference.
It's an IPS LG panel, that's why. Before buying a Sony LCD research what brand is the panel, as they use several. Generally their active 3d screens (or auo panels for that matter) have great contrast ratios. I recently got a kdk55w800b and the black levels are great for a LCD.
Finally pulled the trigger on a new set. A Sony WB600. 40 incher.
Basically every TV I read online reviews on had people saying it sucked in some way, so I finally said fuck it and ordered the Sony. It does 1080p, I was able to turn off all the natural motion extra features crap for gaming, and it looks good with the blu-rays I've tested so far. Good enough :lol

I believe it's the same.
I'm by no means an expert so I can't really compare it to the Samsung. But it looks really good so far with my PS4 and Blu-Rays.

One of the boards went out on my set(TNPA5335BK SC Board to be exact), and no one has any to replace it with. I've made a few calls and it seems it's in high demand, and no one knows when it will resurface. I read early March somewhere, but who knows. The only ones I can find are on...you guessed it. Ebay. What are the chances a board that I get is complete shit from one of the sellers with good records? I haven't bought anything from ebay in over a decade...
