How did FFXIII Steam do? Could FFX HD be next?

Just wondering if anyone knows whether FFXIII on Steam has proven worthwhile for SE? If it has, would FFX HD be the next logical choice, since the 'HDification' has already been done?

no, i would never buy another FF port unless 75%, FF XIII and Dark Souls is probably one of the shittiest port I've ever seen. Keep your fucking money.

I've got no numbers but I'm positive that FFXIII did extremely well (it topped the "Popular New Releases"-tab on Steam) while XIII-2 didn't do too well.

I think most of this has to do with the hype. It was there for XIII because people wanted to try out the engine for PC.

Unlike FFXIII, FFX has only ever been on PlayStation Platforms in any form, so at this point it would seem unlikely possibly due to some sort of contract existing. FFVII & FFVIII both available on PC in "HD" even though they are seen as big PS titles is because they already existed on PC beforehand, and the FFXIII was multiplatform to begin with.

I'd take a guess that FFXIII did very well, but the discovery of how poorly done it was, probably led to FFXIII-2 doing poorly

I believe all mainline FFs will be on Steam eventually.

Is it really that shitty compared to the PS3 version? I've said to myself that I won't replay the game until I get a gaming PC. It's surely still worth playing on PC despite the "shitty" nature of the port?

It seems really unlikely that there would be a contract holding FFX exclusive in 2015.

FF13's gotten better, and if LR's port ends up being good then it shows S-E got a handle on porting PS3-level games onto PC well.

I do hope FFX and X-2 are gonna make it to steam.

The game only uses 1 CPU core and performs terribly with various frame drops.

You wouldn't, but I would. Give me more Final Fantasy PC ports, Square. Final Fantasy XII next, please.

The game got mostly positive reviews on Steam (dunno why), so I don't think that is the case.

nothing concrete but i've heard of an honor deal. Honor and your word is a big thing in Japan. I believe the games will remain exclusive to sony platforms.
Yeah, after FF XIII selling (supposedly) well, I am sure Square Enix will pass on easy money because of honor.

I would argue that money is a bit more important to SE (or Sony for that matter) then any personal concept such as honour.

Since I only got it at Christmas rather than launch, my experience has been 1080p/60 (with occasional stutter) from the beginning. I have no complaints with the port, but I can imagine SE hurting their future sales by initially putting out a 720p port. Morons.

Ironically I'm enjoying it enough it might pick up FFXIII-2 soon.

This is probably the strangest thing I've ever heard...if that was the case then why FFXIII wasn't exclusive to PS3?

You missed the memo or what? MS simply made deal with SE back when they were serious with competing in Japan. Same for the port of FF XI, for which they made an exception in their policies for Xbox Live.

XIII port was also due to the fact that SE started their streaming service in Japan which runs on a PC. I don't think we would have seen the game otherwise. FF X HD is yet to be available on that streaming service so count such a port out for now.

This thinking doesn't really make sense anymore. Not when we're getting stuff like Valkyria Chronicles. Or FF3 and 4.

I'm using the evidence we have at hand, currently no Final Fantasy that was released on a PlayStation platform originally and wasn't released on any other platform within a year has come to non PlayStation platform so far. Both FF7 and FF8 were on PC within a year, yet there has been no real proof of any other Final Fantasy titles that have been only on PlayStation, those being 9/10/12/DoC/CC, appearing on anything else yet. It has also been a over year since the original release of FFX HD and has been announced for the PS4 as well, but no other platforms have been sighted or hinted at for its release.

I'm not saying it is never going to change, just that so far it hasn't and there hasn't been much evidence to show it is going to. FF3 & 4 are also much older titles and both were actually remade, not just "remastered" to play on newer platforms.

Did anyone ever think FFXIII would come to PC? With SE embracing Steam as of late, and FFX already being ported to one x86 platform, I'd say it's inevitable.

PS4 FFX HD was just announced. Notice a lack of XB1 and PC.

FF remaster is not going to do as well as a mainline FF obviously so maybe SE finds its not worth the effort porting it to other systems.....let alone a port of a remaster that has already sold near 2 million (most likely). I don't think its a priority at SE right now.

Wouldn't say inevitable, but quite possible.

I really want XII more than anything, though.

Don't we all, who cares what platforms it comes to, just give us a sweet version of FFXIII:IZJS, that is the title I want to play more than the others right now.

I agree, because if you screw someone over in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

It's not like in America where you can become successful by being an asshole.

XIII-2 was at the Top sellers for a while too. Less time then XIII, but it was still there. I don't think it did too bad.

Honestly my mind went blank when typing up that post.
Never mind me.

X, X2 and XII (in the future) will be likelier bets for a PC port at this point regardless, as porting from the PS4 to PC is a pretty simple thing. I'm sure even finding the FF9 source code as this point would be a big issue, never mind working with it.

I'm just hoping that Lightning Returns won't be a technical mess...

Isn't the word on the street that they lost the source code for the PS1 versions of 7/8/9?

I mean, they had to recreate parts of KHFM from a retail disc, so it wouldn't be too surprising...

Since most problems with the FFXIII port seem to lie with the Crystal Tools engine, I highly doubt it. Not that the ports were high quality to start with, but it certainly didn't help that the engine was supposedly not easy to port.

If you have nothing concrete, you should never have made a sentence with concrete words like "will never" in your sentence.

It's better than the PS3 version. There are some frame drops every now and then, but still, I'll take that with 1440p and 60fps over 720p and 30fps any day.

XIII-2 was worse in this regard, but there is a mod that makes things almost flawless (at least for me).

It would actually be really interesting to see if new Final Fantasy games in general end up on Steam. We've already seen that some indie Japanese RPGs are making some headway on the platform, thanks to Greenlight or Ghostlight, but there hasn't yet been a push from the bigger giants.

I'm all for it. I realize that not every Gaffer enjoys the monopoly that Steam partially has on PC, but it really does help wallets and space considerations if most of the games that I'm interested in can largely be enjoyed on a single platform.

I think there's probably a mid-series blues. People are smart and know there there will probably be a XIII bundle once the third game comes out.

I half hope for XII with the zodiac job system because I never finished that game on PS2. I've actually forgotten how to play it. Also it's stunning.
