Smash 4 with customs will take forever to take off because of how asinine unlocking all of them is. They're also pretty broken half the time imo...but sometimes broken is fun. Customdorf ruined Ganondorf for me in Smash 4 because its just so much better.

I know what you mean. Dark Fists, Warlock Blade, and Wizard's Dropkick makes Ganondorf awesome. Flame Chain and Flame Choke are interchangable.

Well the problem is, is that what you want to be the general rule for all fighting games? What if a new gundam (the arcade one) takes just as long?

I don't really have a problem with time length simply because you can adjust a stream schedule around it. In the end it just means less matches being stream due to time constraints which I feel is a good compromise.

CVS2 can get pretty long but not this long with handwarmers, coaching, and all that included.

That won't change the amount of time handwarmers, coaching and games in a set though. Adjust the game rules on the meta. It happened in Mvc3. MvC3 used to be 2/3 until people realized 3/5 was just as long as a 2/3 set in sf4. Also didn't rules get created and adjusted to fit the meta in smash? Im pretty sure it has but I could be wrong

Hopefully after seeing this Apex/Evo the community might change some rules for quicker matches.

Yeah, I hope so.Don't think Smash 4 will ever be for me on a competitive level, but I'd like to see Smash 4 survive 3 to 4 years.

How so? The game is very competitive, like every smash. Though if you were expecting the game to play like melee, that obviously isn't going to ever happen. Every Smash is relatively unique in how they play, just like most other fighting game series.

Yupp, that's the exact moveset. Sometimes a little equipment to speed him up too if it's allowed, but that would never and should never fly in tourneys.

To be fair, Daouzin did say "for me"

How are you supposed to set it up then? That sort of match length is unheard of in other fighting games...but Smash is totally unlike other, more traditional-styled fighting games as it is, so how can we say it's supposed to adhere to similar length.
I'm only commenting on it in the context of tournaments running behind schedule.

Different fighting game communities lobby for extended set lengths all the time, but usually the deciding factor on whether those fly or not in the end is whether the games complete at a fast enough pace to allow for it. Marvel 3 was granted best-of-5 as a standard because it's a decently paced game. CVS2 has been cut down to single-game tournament matches when extreme circumstances have called for it in the past.

If the players want to run first-to-7 round robins or something crazy, then it's no big deal to me... if they have time for it. But when you're always behind schedule, fighting against venue curfews, or running lots of matches off-stream, then at some point you have to look at the big picture and figure out what has to give, be it stricter time limits, shorter sets, smaller entrant caps, more regulations on downtime between matches (button checks, coaching), etc.

EVO will shapen it up but you never want to get to that point. The community won't. Its been like 12 years and they still have long ass hand warmers and coaching

Personally I think this would go away if Nintendo released a Melee mode in Smash 4 and it had the same online features as Smash 4 standard. Melee mode For Glosy etc.

Right now the community has to do everything themselves. Knowing Nintendo is behind the Melee scene just as much as the Smash 4 scene would really create a bridge for the communities to stand alongside one another.

I think that's all it takes. Since Melee grew this scene on it's own I think their's some hostility with Smash 4 just jumping on the scene Melee grew. If both games were available on modern consoles they could coexist.

Would love to see that happen.

but see in my eyes would this really fix anything? not everyone wants to play melee and not everyone wants to play smash4 i get that melee made the community and that it is the hype game but seeing the things im reading on twitch/here is just as disheartening

honestly i really feel bad for sakurai in a way because hes trying to make the game he want to make but then there are the fans(vocal and non vocal) who want something else and others who want it to be the same this franchise at least in my eyes seems like hell to create

I don't think Speed Ganon would ever be legal through Customs. I have a build for one and it just wrecks house.

People talking about one communinty being more toxic than the other aren't helping. They just fuel the hate between both groups. The focus should be on letting people enjoy the games they like.

I personally think this would remove a large portion of the hostility. Just my personal opinion off the high level Melee players I know, I could be wrong since Stream Monsters might always be toxic no matter what.

It's just not for me personally, not that it's not competitive. Zero just proved that with his domination, haha.

I just didn't enjoy the pace of the game that I saw today.

Anyway, AMSA/Melee time!
