It's kind of crazy the game still gets shit on at times.

People complain about games that are just filled with bugs, are a downgrade in visuals from the first initial showing and try to con people with false promises and abrasive DLC practices. Ready at Dawn maintained its integrity throughout this entire development, super transparent about their tech, also solid on a specific vision they have had and never claimed it was something it wasn't. All of the while it's still their first major console game and a brand new IP, at the same time being a small studio for most of its development.

And with all that the graphics were even a step beyond their first initial reveal and subverted the common downgrade trope. They are making the game they wanted to make and were successful at doing so.

I just think that is all impressive in this pessimistic "everyone is trying to screw us!" age we live in. I totally respect the "this game is not for me" opinion, but the dismissive and aggressive, "The game should be this, because I like this" is just kind of sad.
Spot on.

So I won't be going in the spoiler thread cause I don't want to get spoiled on this game.

But does anyone know if there are any impressions on the game in that thread. And if so what are they? Positive? Negative?

Here's a spoiler free impression from someone who has played a good portion of it (slightly shortened):

The only thing I have done is Install Evolve, Download the 3GB day 1 patch, redeemed my two codes along with my season pass code and went back to Sir Knight. I am going to stay away from the forum until the game launches out of respect for RAD. (met a few of them and they are really cool dudes.) I am going to say this before I go, the subtlety in the acting performances especially between Galahad and Lafayette is fucking amazing .This along with the gameplay, sound, setting , controls .... yea crows .... crows will be everywhere.

well said, I agree.

- There's no humor
- 800p
- It doesn't look like a game
- There's too much walking
- It's not gameplay if there is no shooting

One of my favorites was RAD are racists.

Anyway, game is looking great. Osirisblack's impressions got me hyped. Lucky bastard.

Saw a friend of mine playing the game yesterday on PSN. He got a copy early due to having some connections. Asked for some impression but he had only just started. Said the visuals are phenomenal though. Of course we already knew that.

Lucky bastard. Can't wait!

Wish I had connections. Oh well, a little over a week to go still...

That's about 12 hours. Between exploration and action, about 30 mins per chapter? the least? Even if it's very linear in nature, which seems to be for the most part - 12 hrs for 25.

12 hours is more than enough for me.i'll be very happy if it's anywhere near that length.

Haven't read any of the comments on this thread.

So what's the controversy now?
I'm just assuming there's a controversy.

- There's no humor
- 800p
- It doesn't look like a game
- There's too much walking
- It's not gameplay if there is no shooting
- Black bars
- Too much marketing

Those are the most used, I think.

yeah, i don't know if it's because the game is low res or because of motion blur or depth of field effects or what. guess i'll have to see direct feed video.
Its the motion blur.

The IQ is incredible.

I think it was discussed earlier ITT. These screens are not the best examples of the IQ in this game. Any trailer out there is in game graphics. The cinematics are all in real time.

go here and watch the high quality stream at gamersyde and put the setting to 1080p 30fps and itll give a better idea what it looks like.

the decision to have it at this aspect ratio just really annoys me. it was annoying in The Evil Within, too, wish they'd patched in a way make it 16x9 for the PS4.

Check out the link in my edit in my last post.

If you want to read a long discussion about the aspect ratio. There was a thread dedicated to it here.

The aspect ratio was not implemented the same way it was in TEW.

Does anyone know what exactly the Endless Blackwater Tonic preorder bonus from Gamestop is? Sounds OP and gamebreaking. Probably not but, just wondering.

I like how if you preorder games on PSN you get the lowliest of the lowliest bonus' if anything at all. Including first party titles.

I think you have to beat the game first to use the infinite blackwater.

Wait, what??

Because a game set in the Victorian London doesn't portray people of all races and religions in even numbers. Apparently having the main cast consist of white people is racism.

And yes I know there lived people other than caucasian in London then..

you make some good points, but unfortunately those aggressive views are also shared by a good many 'journalists' and reviewers who would rather review a game for what they want it to be as opposed to what it is.

thanks for the link. so i saw it, the picture still looks soft to me, not just the motion blur but the overall picture. looks very cinematic though.

cool, i'll check it out.

Even in a The Order thread, you just have to name drop a Crytek game, never change KKRT00.

Why shouldnt i compare it to Ryse's AA? Its basically the same point.

I dont think anyone who debates 1080p over 900p or is frequent poster in screenshots thread can appreciate this post processing, it destroys IQ.

Review thread will be fantastic.
I wish Polygon could start us off.

Back on topic....screens look great, gonna be the best looking game of 2015 hands down.

i agree, too much and it distorts the picture and hurts it more than anything. it's like taking a decent picture and then running it through an Instagram filter.

We have seen plenty of leaked footage from the final version which looks fantastic but yet people chose to judge based on these screenshots?

Can someone explain why?

Graphics look incredible but the gameplay looks so completely dull. It's like the TPS genre hadn't advanced in the last 8 years. This is the TPS's equivalent of RYSE.

That's what I'm getting from it.

I'd love to know if it is just bad game design or technical limitations.

Can someone show me high resolution footage of any game on any platform that looks better than the Order. I am really curious. I am yet to get an answer. Anything that is as close to CG as the Order is.

Super original thought you have here. Please go on, tell us how the aspect ratio is weird.

I feel like I'm reading the same page every time I enter a thread about this game. This is like Groundhog Day for a gaming forum.

I'm still trying to decide if I want this at release or not, but the spoilers will be hard to avoid.

you mean the leaked footage that is just poorly compressed youtube videos?

Oh yeh of course, and that means it looks better than it really does right?

Seriously, stepping into threads like this makes me feel like I'm losing brain cells. Its a cesspool.

any modern game running on a decent PC would look better, it's just logical. it doesn't even need to be high budget, the Metro games look incredible. The Metro games on the PS4 look great too, though the character models aren't that great. here's a link to a video, it's for the PC version but the PS4 one looks almost as good. you can watch it in 1080p60fps.

this kind of close-mindedness is what's really mind numbing. just because someone disagrees with you doesn't mean they're some kind of sub-human scum.

They are obviously technically skilled so I doubt it's that. From the pacing of the video they are clearly going for a cinematic experience but that should not come at the cost of gameplay.

The black bars suck. I wasn't aware only original opinions were allowed.

I have seen Metro. It does not look as good as the Order. Nowhere close to the CG look that Order has. Any modern game looking better nope sorry...

there may be hundreds of games that are better on a technical level but visually I dont think so.

I don't think the game is really attempting to break new ground with innovative new gameplay mechanics, but instead offer polished, satisfying and fun gameplay, of a tried and tested nature. At the very least there is some variety to be had, what with the different weapons, stealth, melee, slow mo, mini side tasks and puzzles, lock picking, QTE's, collectibles or viewables, exploration etc.

More to the games focus, there seems to be a much more considered and mature level of pacing within this game than most in the genre, or games similar (barring The Last of Us), including RYSE. It's less focused on a heavy degree of shoot shoot bang bang, or hack hack slash slash, or one adrenaline filled set piece after another, and instead has much more emphasis on grounded characters, narrative and a slower pacing with far more exposition. Some gamers will turn off to that no doubt, as it requires more patience than simple mindless shooting, but at the same time, it is likely going to be more rewarding for those after a more believable world and sense of place.

Based on this first hour of leaked and spliced together gameplay, it reminds me more of a fusion between Last of Us, Half Life 2 and Bioshock Infinite in terms of pacing, than it does Gears of War, Army of Two or Call of Duty.

can you do me a favor and refer to pre-rendered video as "pre-rendered" and not "cg'? every video game is computer generated.

I agree, granted the first hour of a game is going to have more walk and talk in general in most games but it does seem like the shooting is not the main focus here but more immersing you in the world and storyline.

CGI is a real thing no? It does not change my position either way..

It just looks stunning. Of all the faults I find with this game in terms of gameplay that I have mentioned in so many threads one thing this game nails is the visuals. Truly beautiful
