I think it's obvious at this point that forums and game stores are skeevy male oriented places for a lot of women, that isn't an excuse though. Women are playing games, that's fact. Let's now work on cleaning up the community around our hobby to make it more welcoming.

There are more games than Halo and Grand Theft Auto. You know this, right? I have quite a few female friends who love playing BioWare RPGs on consoles. I was hanging out with some people last week and a couple of women were playing Trine 2 co-op on the PS4

Also, nobody started liking Halo post 2011.

As I said, go to a game store or game meet up. 97% male. During the Wii years, it was a more diverse. I remember all demographics coming for the Wii - older people, women, girls, everyone. I remember a 40 year old mom going all crazy for Just Dance. Do you think they go crazy for The Order: 1886? Lol.
If we want to truly make gaming mainstream, we another Wii. Of course, that's probably not gonna happen so we have to rely on smartphones to expand gaming.

Using made-up statistics from game stores or meetups is hardly representative. Many gaming women have written and posted on this forum and others that they would feel very uncomfortable going to such events surrounded by gamer guys. Can you imagine why that might be?

Again: To the men who support this backlash, woman having short hair and dressing in gender-neutral or traditionally masculine is transgressive on a physical level. Appearance, behavior, occupation and sexuality are all intertwined. How is it incorrect to say that MRAs would prefer women that greatly concern themselves with exciting men sexually versus women who enjoy sex without compromising themselves for the sake of it?
So let me get this straight, you think 5 million customers (Which is an underestimate with how much demographics have changed since 2008) is not a significant audience.

I find it hilarious how you pick a movie genre that skews towards women to prove your point while picking specific games that skew towards men ... That's like extrapolating out that because 72% of the Twilight audience is women, 72% of all movie audiences are women. Stats don't work that way. If a woman is playing Minecraft on the PS3 or 360, they are equally as valid a gamer as a guy playing GTAIV.

You are making the argument that women need to like Halo, GTA, and Bloodborne to be console gamers instead of games like Swapper, Diablo 3, Sportsfriends, or The Last of Us.
Your opinion on the matter doesn’t affect reality. The two studies I posted were independent of each other, meaning that two people, using actual statistical techniques, came to the same conclusion while your reasoning is “Yeah, right. I don’t believe that!”

That's what we need to expand demographics for gaming. In fact I honestly think Nintendo screwed itself by abandoning the blue ocean market. They gave up too quickly against smartphones.
Just look at the Kinect. Wanna know why it was filled with fitness/sports/dance/cartoon games? Simple: to attract more women, kids (under 15), and older people. GTA, Gears, and Mass Effect weren't doing it.

I admit I was wrong. All the girls on my Facebook were FURIOUS when PSN and Xbox Live went down during Christmas, for example. I also remember the huge rush for GTAV by females during its launch. How could I think differently?
