The Order 1886: Official spoiler thread for all black bars

wut?

Holy hell.

This leads me to believe that part of the reason they got the graphics to look so good is because the AI is really bad, kinda like in David Cage games a lot of the memory seems to be dedicated to the visuals. Your allies barely hit enemies while they're shooting.

I finished on hard and the AI was borked a good deal of the time. Really holds the title hostage.

Very interested to see what others thing about the overall arc of the story and where everyone landed.

Yeah...some parts are just poor.
I saw a scene where you're pulling an ally to safety on the ground, and you're shooting goons on the 2nd story that keep coming out of the same spot, going to the same spot...dying over and over. This goes on for 10-20 seconds but it just looked so poor.
.

yeah I'm currently revisiting Max Payne 3 right now and... that just wouldn't fly with me. The Order just looks so flaccid from what I've seen; feedback of guns aside, the lame encounter design and poor AI just looks like it sucks the fun out of the game. Also wow at that gif. Though to be fair I've seen AI crap out in the most hilarious ways in KZ Shadow Fall as well

I just finished the game on Hard difficulty and actually enjoyed it a lot. It's definitely far from a perfect game but it's definitely nowhere near as bad as others were saying. I knew that the game was cinematic very early on so maybe I just had my expectations in check before playing the game. I do agree that the lycan fights were a bit of a missed opportunity but I think the game deserves a sequel and that would be the best opportunity for RAD to address that.

RAD really did an amazing job with the visuals as it's clearly the highlight of the game. It was very consistent from the first minute to the very last second. I hope that the game sells enough to warrant a sequel because the story really calls for it (and yeah, that engine RAD developed is so darn good that it should be used for more projects.) Also, those black bars didn't bother me one bit.

As for the ending:
I never expected that ending to remind me so much of MGS3.

Did anyone else hoped that there was a twist near the end that reveals Blackwater makes everyone into vampires.

I was really hoping for that since there's no reflection for Galahad in mirrors.

I thought it was one of the few weird things going on in the game after noticing it for the first time and I actually thought the same as you did. Thankfully though (at least for me), that isn't the case as I think the whole
Vampires VS Lycans
thing has been in a lot of media the past few years.

Except that it lacked any emotional punch whatsoever since the player has very little to no reason whatsoever to give a damn about the character in question. The narrative in this game is absolutely textbook in terms of wasted opportunities. :|

Agreed. I was just referring to the way that you were supposed to do it. It is for that reason you mentioned that I hope there'll be a more fleshed-out sequel so RAD can address stuff like that. They tried to make the said character relateable at the end but it was already late at that point.

the order is easily a 7.5 game. great graphics but boring gameplay & one dimensional characters, and the ending? sequel? and sackboy WTF

this game is overhyped, even if the game is short ( 6-7) hours, the characters were so boring and had no personality except maybe lafayette. i'm disappointed. this game is the "ryse" of the ps4. exceptional graphics but forgettable gameplay and story . this game did not suprise me at all storywise and plotwise , i figured out the plotwist so easily early on the game. for a game this short this game does not bring anything groundbreaking in the gameplay department. shadow of mordor with its nemesis system was innovative, this game is meant to be played once. rented or buy when its 20 or 40 bucks

They just had to call the
werewolf knight Lucin.

Come. On.

I'm not done with the game yet, but just want to comment regarding Igraine and Gallahad.

Her constant earlier teasing about Gallahad's age made me think: 'Hmm... does she want the gray and grizzled D?'....

And then later they slip in that line that went like: 'When are you ever going to heed my advice Isy?' --'Something something you'll need my father's blessing'.

Haha. Nice. Did not expect that.

I posted this in the offical thread but ReplacementPelican said here would be a better place to ask the question.

I don't plan on buying this game for many years. I don't even have a ps4 currently. (but at some point I will) I do have a spoiler question. When the game was first shown, they made a big deal of it being set in Whitechapel but were rather cheeky if Jack the Ripper or the Whitechapel murders were in the game. Were they?

Major ending spoiler

I can't believe they copied MGS3's amazing ending. Except MGS3 did it miles better.

The whole
Lucan
the lycan thing was such a mess. The story really goes off the rails in a bad way. Disappointing, really, since the world and the premise are so engrossing.

The lycans were so misused gameplay-wise. Hyper lame dodge+shoot encounters that are all fucking identical and brain-dead easy. I mean, the ai does the same pattern with each werewolf.

The reused boss fight was also a waste. Decent enough the first time, but it's also
your last boss
? Fuck off.

You don't even get to use the cool guns against
vampires
. :(

Overall, I'm really bummed, since I had high hopes for this game. I liked it well enough, and I'm glad I played it, but it really feels like half a game, both in gameplay and story.

Hopefully there will be a sequel that improves on everything this game lacks. I want to come back to that world.

One of the characters refers to himself as Jack, and it's alluded that he's killed people, but I don't think it goes beyond that. This is alternate history, after all.
No, it's not allusion. They outright state Lord Hastings is Jack the Ripper.

Just finished the game. Looks like I clocked about 6.5 -7 hours, and that's even with exploring around. Might come back to get the collectibles but we'll see... I need to get back to my original predictions post later today.

So is there anything that explains what is the deal with the Half Breeds that I might have missed?
To me it seems like they're basically human with the ability to transform to a more monstrous form, as demonstrated with Lucan (he's been a Half Breed since he was a child at least, if not from birth), but then they're treated as overgrown pests to be exterminated by the Order and none of the non-Elder encounters demonstrate any human intelligence.

As far as I can recall there's never any backstory given as to why things have gotten so bad that the creation of a genocidal organization was the clearest option in dealing with them. It feels hard to believe that (as far as the story is concerned and if what Lakshmi says about them is accurate) all Half Breeds are united in making the world a more miserable place.

The Order has been around since the days of King Arthur. They deal with threats to the kingdom. The Lycan thing hasn't been around for long.
During Percivals funeral, the chancellor mentions that the lycan rise began during his reign...ergo, they were around Long before werewolves were a problem.

On Lycans:

I don't think Lucan was a half breed, since he was born werewolf. Besides, it's the same boss encounter as the Elder Lycan.

So you basically have

-full blown lycans (two in the game AFAIK)
-lots of bitten half breeds
-vampires (that do fuck all. Why is Lord Hastings relying on half breeds in London instead of vampires? How are vampires and lycans linked? It's never explained

Major ending spoiler

And they didn't even begin to earn it. Like, they barely tried. I can't see how there could be any reaction to that moment from the player other than "...".

Final boss was underwhelming since we already did that mid game.

The firefight before that was much better.

Now give me The Order 1887.

Characters are cold, because they are "doomed" with eternal life and have seen unbelievable things. A lot of Knights do not want this life and are emotional wrecks. Just look at Igis and Grays relationship. They love eacht otherm but in a very cold and rational way.

Please explain ?
What was this with the vampires ? Why did they want to sent Vamps instead of Wolves. Alistar were a wolve, not a vampire. It seemed really strange and unnecessary that vamps are in the game ?

Find out in 1887!

He wanted to use the
vampires to infect people in America. Maybe they were chosen over werewolves because they don't need to feed as often or something? It's probably a long trip :p

Now that the game is released how long do we need to spoiler tag our discussion?

Otherwise:

Knights of the Round Table!?
Vampires and Werewolves!?
Jack the Ripper!?
The Grail?
Sherlock Holmes (In reference only?)!?
Airships!?

Yeah, I am glad I stayed in the dark on this one.

I love this stuff.

So the mysterious hooded figure?

King Arthur

On another note while voice acting and elements of character interaction were superb the whole was let down IMHO by inconsistent and sometimes incoherent narrative and plotting: or am I missing something.

Anyway fix the obvious issues and give me an improved sequel. Visuals are fine as they are.

Are we suppose to spoiler tag in a spoiler thread?

Eh whatever. There is way too much that needed conclusion. The tension between Galahad and Ingraine, what happened to the rebels, and whatever the hell happened to actually killing Lord Hastings.

Well other than the actual action of shooting, I don't think it was anything like MGS3.
The ending of MGS3 was a plot twist turning The Boss into the real hero of the game and you being the catalyst of her sacrifice.

Just finished the game. As for how it wrapped up,
it reminded me of the ending of Halo 2. I wanted to finish the damn fight, but it felt like we got half a game.
There were some plot threads that made some sense, but not all of them were fleshed out it seems.

Were the lycans and vampires working together to spread across the globe? I almost thought it was going to be the lycans vs vampires up towards the end, referencing that the Knights of the Order were actually vampires through their use of the Black blood and extended lives.

I''d be interested in another game at this point, but I think they need some work on the gunplay and cover systems to start out. It did a really good job with atmosphere and the QTEs weren't that bad I'd be fine with more cinematic gameplay, as long as the actual gameplay holds up.
