Halo: The Master Chief Collection is STILL broken after 100 days

That is pretty interesting. How much will Halo 5 suffer for MCC's sins?

Honestly? Probably more than people are expecting. As a general rule of thumb, the quality of a videogame affects the sales of its sequel. Considering Halo 4 wasn't well received and that the MCC is still considered to be a hot mess, there's a decent risk that Halo 5 could be this gen's first AAA flop.

OK, I'll use the same comment I wrote in another MCC thread

"Bought the Xbox One because of MCC. Returned the Xbox one because of MCC"

And now I'm glad I did. When Halo 5 comes out, I will wait a few days before i jump back in.

Halo is still too big to fail. I doubt 5 will even reach 4's numbers but it will do fine. Beta seemed to go over well and MS is going to promote the fuck out of it, as they do. Don't know what else they got late this year besides Forza.

Won't last forever, though. Halo is well past its prime and unless 343 somehow turn it around I think each successive installment will continue to sell worse than the last. That's been the case since 3.

To be honest, I have doubts about how negatively this is going to impact Halo. I assume that once Halo 5 nears, Microsoft is going to quietly sweep MCC under the rug. It'll still be worked on, of course, but it won't be nearly as much as a priority as it is now. 343 is pulling double duty trying to patch the mess of MCC and trying to develop H5 as well.

As far as affecting sales, I also have doubts about that, if only because the brand association between Halo & Xbox is so strong. The Playstation brand is connected to many names, but none are as strong as the connection between these two. When you think Xbox, Halo immediately springs to mind. Many people who bought an Xbox One, especially casuals (who have the attention spans of fruit flies) are going to get Halo. I have a friend that brought an Xbox One on launch day, Kinect and all. He was incredibly frustrated with how MCC turned out, but if he doesn't buy Halo 5 on release day, I'll eat my hat.

I just think the brand loyalty is too strong for MCC to make any serious dent in sales. I don't like it, but that's the way it is.

If Halo 5 does not sell as much as Halo 4, then it is not fine. It means the series is in decline, and well, it's not surprising and actually expected. Expected when an outside studio is tasked with making a game they do not understand is bound to fail. There is a lot of examples of this and even the maps in Halo 5 are not 'Halo' or don't feel like Halo maps with wide lanes and wide elements because of sprint and clamber.

Calling it now, 343 will release the patch on February 31th, and it will be glorious.

If Halo 5 sells Halo 4 levels then it's doing very well. Especially considering the install base is far smaller for the X1 than for the 360 at 4's release.

I don't know man, I keep saying this but I wouldn't underestimate Microsoft's Marketing Machine.

We'll disagree. I understand the install base is lower but it should sell and with that I have doubts since the series has been in decline since 343. I don't think it's the install base as the culprit but the game. People should buy Xbox's for Halo or at least they did, but not with 343.

Also for Halo, the long-term online population is more important and is what I am concerned about. If Halo 5 can't do better than 4 online, which was a disaster, it's extremely worrying.

The only way they can make me happy at this point is to offer me my money back, or to give me a 60 dollar credit to purchase a new game of my choice. And since neither of those things are ever going to happen, I stay bitter like everybody else who bought this game.

Carelessness and lack of supervision. 343 didn't review shit for MCC; they gave out instructions and continued working on Halo 5. It's so obvious.

This so much. 343 really does not care for Halo imo, they are making a game they want to make, just slapping Halo on it. Let's be honest, if they did not have the fear of the community and gamers to sell the game to, Halo 5 would be unrecognizable as a Halo game.

The onus should be on the users who are claiming that the game "works" to explain themselves.
I play nearly every day, BTB exclusively. I won't ever claim it works 100%, or even most of the time. That is just delusional.

I put up with long MM times, uneven teams, incorrect map/objective layouts, shots not registering, quitters, gungoose CTF, gungoose CTF, gungoose CTF, LAG, server seemingly crashing in the middle of the match, reversed sound effects, rubber banding, horrid frame rates, gungoose CTF, missing sound effects, match fails to load, garbage post carnage stats, host migration... But once in ten games or so, the stars will align and almost everything will be just... Perfect. And I am reminded of how much I love Halo. I subject myself to all this awfulness in hopes of small glimpses of paradise.

It's really like being in an abusive relationship, I imagine. And just like a battered husband, I keep telling myself that she can change... For the better. My patience will be rewarded, and soon we will live happily ever after.

I was all in with xbox one and MCC and then onto Halo 5. Unless people proclaim 5 to be the be all end all of gaming I'm skipping it. They burnt me as a long time halo/xbox fan.

This was me- up until the December patch that broke parties again. After that, I just couldn't do it anymore.

Interesting side note- I had some friends talk me into playing again for the first time in weeks, last weekend. We played Team Slayer and had literally not one single issue. Fast MM times, the party stayed together. We ended the night thinking that 343 must have done some major server side work and that the game worked pretty darn well now.

So I got on yesterday to play with the same friends- and after 20 minutes and being placed in some random person's custom games room (that then immediately broke up) we couldn't find a single game, or keep the party together when changing playlists to search. The inconsistency is real, no doubt about it, I can totally see how some people can claim "it works for me!" because the other night, it totally did. And then promptly went back to totally broken.

Funny, I posted this over at waypoint:

"I will have luck, then I will get locked up, kicked from the game, the game ends all of a sudden, ect. 2-5 matches in, the game goes from that handsome boyfriend who opens the door for you, and smells like Drakkar Noir, to being that raging misogynist who hits you in the gut and reeks of Jim Beam and 3 day old urine."

Cant believe I paid fulk price for this. :(

If I had a One, I would've too. This collection was actually going to be what pushed me to get one. Can't blame yourself for expecting a fully functional product worthy of the Halo legacy. This is just a huge blunder all around, and I wouldn't have expected that at all.

I expect Halo 5 to sell well, lets face it, the Xbox One is loaded with first party titles.

This is the only thing in addition to Halo 4 and the MCC mess that may impact sales. They were dishonest about what they were doing in Halo 4. Halo 5 is not a Halo game and people know it. ADS in a fuckin Halo game.

If you compare CoD: AW side by side with Halo 5 there are times you can't tell the difference.

So they still haven't said anything about a date? I thought they said they would update us this week and give us a release date. And I'm pretty sure they had said by the end of February. Their days are numbered.

Either the guy was completely bullshitting or clueless about the project, I think the later honestly.
That's Dan Ayoub, the executive producer and one of the game's lead hype men prior to launch. As of November 13th, a mere two days after launch, his twitter account went completely silent and he disappeared.

Really? Cant tell the difference? I've played the beta and it very much is a halo game, a very fun, fresh take on the franchise. It's nowhere near CoD and changes have already been announced to make it better (faster base speed, slower max sprint, reduced headshot multiplier for ADS auto weapons).

H5 is going to be solid.

MCC is a piece of shit though. It was just a cash grab by MS to bring in people like me who loved the franchise and had anticipated playing MP on dedicated servers....bought a bine for it and regret the MCC purchase. This is what happens when you rush an overly ambitious project and frankenstein it accross several devs. We know 343's priority is H5 and its a shame MS forced the project to release just for a quick $

This is so spot on. Well done. I have a group of friends Ive been playing Halo with for over ten years now, we are BTB players mainly - and this is what we put up with week after week. Halo is so good that it was worth it. I actually stopped playing 3 weeks back. It just reached that point I couldnt take it anymore - but they are still trying to play almost every day. Completely ridiculous the game still isnt fixed.

Fresh take? ADS, Clamber, Sprint.

The game is never going to be properly fixed, certainly not to the standard that it should have shipped at. Even if matchmaking starts working, the scale of the issues is just so incredibly large that even with an incredibly motivated and competent team there's no way it'll ever happen. We're talking hundreds and hundreds of bugs - the bug tracker for Halo CE multiplayer has over a hundred issues logged on its own.

Even if the game were magically fixed today, the community is dead. Even that were magically fixed and millions of people came back to the game tomorrow, it would only last for a little over half a year until Halo 5 drops.

We all got screwed, and none of us are ever going to the opportunity to re-experience the glory days of Halo like we were promised.

This is absolutely on point. For me this goes beyond just being a waste of $460. It is a missed opportunity that can never be recaptured and it is a huge bummer.

Lol... Pathetic.

I just can't buy it at all. I was a Halo nut. With all the bull shit we put up with, with this release and the franchise changing slightly from its roots(I actually dug H4) it should help me keep H5 out of my sights. I just like to come into the MCC threads and vent a bit, I think I earned that right.
this describes my thoughts perfectly too......it's sad really....

So I was curious what happened to old Dan Ayoub so I went poking around and found his LinkedIn profile. Oddly enough it says that starting in November 2014-Present he has a title of Studio Head of External Development. New job/position at 343 perhaps? It also says he has been an Executive Producer at Microsoft from January 2010-Present and lists out 10 projects he has worked on. Oddly enough, nowhere on his profile is there any mention of the Halo Master Chief Collection. Coincidence? I think not...

It's common practice in the industry to shift key team members to new projects immediately following a game's release. Most likely he's has a similar position on Halo 5 or another first party title at Microsoft.

Watching that video pisses me off so much. I seriously hope someone takes legal action against them.

I think what's going to piss me off the most is when they start the Halo 5 hype train. Are they going to release bullshit videos just like this? Like seriously, get the fuck out of here with shit like that.

Also in the opening cutacene for Outskirts, they have Johnson chant with the Pilots... Despite not actually saying anything. His mouth just moves.

I don't blame him. We've all seen how far gamers can go in harassing developers.
