Halo: The Master Chief Collection is STILL broken after 100 days

The game is never going to be properly fixed, certainly not to the standard that it should have shipped at. Even if matchmaking starts working, the scale of the issues is just so incredibly large that even with an incredibly motivated and competent team there's no way it'll ever happen. We're talking hundreds and hundreds of bugs - the bug tracker for Halo CE multiplayer has over a hundred issues logged on its own.

Even if the game were magically fixed today, the community is dead. Even that were magically fixed and millions of people came back to the game tomorrow, it would only last for a little over half a year until Halo 5 drops.

We all got screwed, and none of us are ever going to the opportunity to re-experience the glory days of Halo like we were promised.

This is true. The game is broken in many ways and the community is simply not there anymore.

Wow this is a pretty depressing post...but it's 100% on point. :[

H2 Classic:

- Netcode problem acknowledged by 343 in which the BR and Sniper do not register beyond mid range. Puts you off playing the game

Has there been any mention of this being fixed? H2C is borderline unplayable. Would love to hop in Team Hardcore but that BR reg, yikes.

I'm glad i'm not the only one who notices this terrible H2C netcode. OMG, it's so bad.

Halo 3 isn't much better.

I keep getting told to just play the campaign, until the MP gets fixed. Yet again my fucking progress gets deleted playing HL2 on Legendary. I think ill just come back to it this summer, so I can prep for Halo 5 in the fall...

This makes me hesitant in buying Halo 5. I will wait for it to come out and be played a few days before I jump in.

The same Xbox Brand that blew the competitor out of the water sales wise over the holidays?

This collection was on track to get them another sale from me. Botching it and it still being unfixed cost them one. The market ebbs and flows, they were up for a bit, now they're back to before and needing to drop prices in order to stay competitive. Titles like this can tip the scales sell systems though, so excellence is a necessity.

That is pretty interesting. How much will Halo 5 suffer for MCC's sins?
Little to none at all is my guess because of MCC itself, but it will probably have a smaller userbase in general than past Halos due to the reputation of 4 changing much of what was loved about the pure Halo formula.

There was that one GAF thread about the drop off of 4's players, so that'll reflect pretty strongly on what will happen with 5 if I had to guess.

Not only that, but when H4 released the install base of the 360 was much larger than what the Xbone will be when H5 releases.

I just can't buy it at all. I was a Halo nut. With all the bull shit we put up with, with this release and the franchise changing slightly from its roots(I actually dug H4) it should help me keep H5 out of my sights. I just like to come into the MCC threads and vent a bit, I think I earned that right.

Halo 3 seems alright. The BR was always very flimsy in that game. You actually need to lead your shots quite a bit. I do vaguely remember that Bungie decreased the BR bullet spread with an update after a year or so. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't pack that patch in the MCC.

Halo 5 should be fine despite MCC. If Halo 5 is just as broken as MCC then Halo 6 is in big shit.

If Halo 5 is in such a bad state I have higher hopes for 6 because things would be shuffled around. It's a shame too because I have no interest in H5, I just wanted to relive my old gaming days with some classic Halo. :(

That's also true and probably more relevant. Overall, I'm not sure Halo 5 is positioned to be the system seller that Halo 3 was.

This game's condition was a lost XBO sale from me. I was ready to jump onboard if the game lived up to the hype. I really didn't expect this level of problems.

If Halo 5 is fucked up this badly 343 is going to get shut down.

Call me stupid but I don't think Halo 5 will be a buggy mess on release. The reason MCC was is because it was outsourced to so many devs for so many different parts of the collection, 343 were just downright lazy not to check it thoroughly before sending it out the door.

Not saying Halo 5 will be. Just saying if 343 were to fuck up that badly, we'd be seeing a new developer for the Halo franchise.

The Halo 5 Beta also had significant problems/bugs (beyond the gameplay changes). Yes, obviously just a Beta, but the fact that some of the problems are very similar to the issues that plague MCC is very concerning to say the least.

Microsoft/343i's track record is not very good, and burden of proof is completely on them.

I was SO pumped for this game. Predownloaded it only to have to redownload more gigs when it released for some reason, and then couldn't matchmake! The release was SO bad that I haven't had it in me to play it again. I tried 1 other time a few days or weeks later but it was still terrible.

It makes me sad.

The Halo community needs to come together and flat out refuse any future "content updates." Anything short of pulling the game from shelves and re-funding/re-developing this game is completely unacceptable.

I don't buy this narrative. I think it's far more likely that Microsoft was rushing the game out the door and that 343 had no choice in the matter. Calling a developer lazy is usually an ignorant, reductive way of looking at things.

If North America was the only continent on Earth, your statement would make sense. As the map above shows, it's not. Even with the discounts and the free games, and the massive NPD sales results, the X1 was still beat world wide by the PS4.

I don't think that halo 5 will have any problems in all honesty. They will make sure that this is flawless on launch... Unlike this rushed disaster.

I was looking forward to having the halo collection, but this is ridiculous. And where are the dedicated servers? When their spin doctors get on telling us that most games are played on them, its just an insult. I would love to have some transparency on that. Because its pretty much just a lie at the moment.

Every time I see this thread bumped to the front page, I am hoping it is because a patch date has been announced. I just want a date so I can plan for my eventual disappointment when the patch hits and match-making is still broken...

Where do you have this idea that updates and adjustments to software can't solve the problems involved? You said something to this effect in one of your earlier threads, and I honestly couldn't follow. You didn't answer there, so I'm still curious.

I know you've been upset by the handling of the collection, and I know your frustrations stemmed even earlier from your reaction to Halo 4. I've agreed right along that people need to show their frustration with this situation, but when you reach the point of rhetorically "stomping your feet" and saying/demanding things that don't make sense or wouldn't actually help the situation, you lose me.

I'm sure MS is happy that they have to spend resources on compensating over a million players with 1 month Gold codes and ODST and a map for free. Also poor word of mouth crushing any legs this game would've had in sales.

I'm not buying that narrative. MS gave a deadline and needed a Halo game out in the holiday. 343 and co. fucked it up, and according to Frankie, it didn't sound like they were rushed to launch the game.

The only thing this would accomplish is taking the game out of the hands of the people that actually have had no issues.

I wonder how many people is that.

No way to know. But at this point the people who don't have it working aren't going to play it anyway, so waiting for patches is effectively the same thing as the game itself getting recalled. So the only thing that would happen with the 'recall' scenario is screwing over the unknown number of people who have little or no issues.

strong feelings here. very strong feelings im reading here.

I wonder if any of the people trashing the MCC still own it so they can trash it some more whenever they feel down/sad/angry?

I seen previous posts of people refunding it and never see them again. I applaud them. Just odd that other people are in a situation that seems unfavorable, but do nothing to solve it for themselves.

I find this more reflective of them instead of the state of the MCC right now. I still own it, and will most likely play it again after the next CU. Why? Because i love a video game named Halo. Not because of 343i statements or whatever. I give two shits and a fiddle about what their excuse is. It is something we really have NO FACTUAL IDEA about, and will never know! Get over it. Move on. Trade it in. Get a refund. Play another FPS. Walk outside a little longer.

I Can't wait for Halo 5. Played marvelously during the beta. Had more fun than any other beta i've played recently.

Agreed. I am absolutely certain that 343i has smart/talented people on the staff. Any blame should be directed towards the mid to upper level management working on the project and the people working on the publisher side of things.

There were a lot of poor "big picture" decisions (that were most likely made early in the game's dev cycle) that contributed to the project's overall failure.

I'd love to know how things could have played out if they released these games in smaller batches, rather than going for this shotgun approach. I mean, it sounds awesome, but we see how that effected the quality once all was said and done at release.

It sounds to me like people just want their game finished. I don't want my money back. I want what I paid for. If I never get that, then they never get another dime from me again.

This is pretty much the only reason why I check the MCC:OT, otherwise that thread is a depressing ghost town.
