Agreed. Although I imagine it's going to get some very high critical acclaim. Especially in light of critics loving D'Angelo's album a few months ago.

Twitter seems positive about a handful of tracks but I'd imagine many folks won't feel this. Too left. Too many instruments that kids never heard of (you know, like saxophones and trumpets). Generation wise I think this is the moment that ensures Drake no longer has competition. He owns this generation. Obviously I'm not a Drake fan, just saying he's the Hov of these kids, speaking about shit they want to hear and giving them "turn up"...
bizarre post on every level :S

Can't wait for my next listen. I'm a huge fan of this Soulquarian sound and am glad he's experimenting and evolving musically. I don't need another GKMC, which is one of my faves of the last 10 years. If I want to hear the old 'ish I can just do that.

First listen... wat.

Second listen.. why are there so many annoying little things? E.g. the chorus of Hood Politics. BOOBOO.

Some great tracks and some awful details

Really wish he cut like 30% of the album. Too long, too many tracks, too many skits and its just corny a lot of the time

Album is basically a "fuck you" to radio dj's, and the streets wont be hot on it either. Kendrick's got some balls. There will be no pop stars on instagram cosigning any of the songs from this album, lol.

This is pretty damn good so far. I like that it's mostly (from what I can tell) original music with some interesting flow layouts. Super jazzy and funky.

Amazing and damn that ending! Mortal Man... Just wow!

"I'm not saying I'm gonna change the world, but I guarantee that I will spark the brain that will change the world."

kendrick is the next gen lupe

next album he's going to start telling other rappers not to use the b-word

Don't think so, the subject matter seems pretty similar to his other albums. Also didn't people hate on Lupe because he went more pop/mainstream with his beat selection.

Hot damn this album is ridiculously good. I wonder how people under the age of 25 are going to take it though. This is definitely closer to Pac than Lu if we are making comparisons. This is none more evident than on Mortal Man. Fuck, that song had me choked up.\

Best KDot album so far. Feel like it's been a steady progression since OD.
Agreed on so many levels.

Just got out of class and giving the rest of the album a listen. Funny enough, tis is the track I'm continuing with.

"I've been A1 since day one. BOOBOO. Your homeboy, your block that you're from, BOOBOO."

Shit's going to be in my head all day now.

Kendrick is a much better songwriter than Lupe who oozes convolutedness and 'holier than thou' isms.

Even though I dislike the weird deliveries for the most part, I don't mind Hood Politics. He sounds really frustrated and gloomy on that.

My biggest problem with Kendrick, is the weird deliveries he does sometimes. I really don't like it.

Production is Amazing...Kendrick has balls putting out a mainstream hip hop album with this sonic base...

Very solid on my third listen, if you like jazz or soul records I can't see how you wouldn't enjoy this album.

Only part of the album I didn't really like was the switch on "U". The emotion would have been just as easily conveyed through the lyrics. The intent is good, but the aesthetic is completely awful to me.

But I loved the rest.

Still like For Free more than For Sale, I really vibe with that nutty free jazz/slam poetry thing it turns into. On my third listen to the entire thing, I still absolutely love it. Momma onwards is pretty much flawless, first half is really good too. Definitely one of the weirdest and most experimental mainstream rap albums to come out in a while.

This album is legit, and it kept getting better each song.

Mortal Man had me shook; amazing finish to the album.

GKMC is a rap album, made by a rapper

TPAB feels like something bigger, made by a musician - nothing else on the market sounds quite like it and I fucking love Kendrick for rapping something else than mindless materialism and shit like every other person does
