So I need to fight my way through those long parts of the game + getting the bosses right in one shot? That can't be for real.

Its a mix honestly. Old Yharman lantern only has a single werewolf guarding it so there are likely a few more exploration only lanterns

Learning how to efficiently kill enemies is a must though. Should become easier as you play around and upgrade stuff

So I went back to Eileen the Crow because I want her equipment. I tried killing her. Goddamn, I'm getting my ass whooped. Does anyone know if you can still meet her normally on her second encounter?

can npc's become friendly in the next location, after you've attacked them in the previous?

No, no! That would be cruel. What you need to do is explore the central Yharnam area totally, including sewers, canals, warehouses, houses, and you'll open up tons of shortcuts and routes plus possibly even new weapons.

Then, when you have those routes, practice and perfect what I call Boss Run where you dash to the boss using shortest route and weave/roll between enemies so you don't use any resources while on your way. It'll be like a minute run to a boss and you can keep your boss fight flow going. When at the start you're pretty weak, there's no point in fighting werewolves while on your way to Cleric, for example, it's just a waste of time and resources.

Almost ready to finally join you spoilery rascals!

The shortcuts mean you don't have so far to go and you also don't need to fight your way through those parts anyway. You can just run.
There's a shortcut right near where you are. Instead of turning right towards the fountain go straight on and take out a few crates

9 hours with BB:

-This is my first souls style game, it's not as hard as I thought. It's definitely challenging and punishing, but patience and good judgement go such a long way (I almost beat Gascogne on the first try!). It's not nearly as obtuse as some made it seem. Maybe I'm just good at games, but I think some people have made it out to be some impossible thing, it's not.

-Yharnam is the most well realized world of the current gen. The game is way better looking than I expected, a powerful combo of really solid technical power and incredible art design. The sound design is god tier as is the atmosphere.

-The game is really rewarding, and respects skill.

-The game feels like the antidote for modern AAA, especially coming off last year. There's no bloat, no saturation of cookie cutter content, a genuine sense of mystery and a true feeling that the game wasn't designed by a committee of ppl looking at modern trends.

-Top 3 game of the generation so far alongside smash bros wii u.

Bonus: my eyes were hurting because I couldn't stop playing.

Shortcuts. E.g. if you open the left gate at the lantern, you can run past the two big brick guys to Boss Father G in under a minute.

I've seen the cane weapon brought up a lot. Is there some benefit that I'm not seeing by using it?

Its fast. Its probably one of the easier starting weapons for the small enemies since you can rush them down. The whip mode is pretty good for crowd control and has good range

It stuggles bad against armored enemies though

Does saving and quitting work like it does in the DS games where I get a softsave at the point I quit or do I *have* to find a bonfire (or whatever) in order to trigger a checkpoint? And if the former, how exactly do I quit properly? I can't seem to find an option for it at all.

Its an amazing setup!

I find myself doing intricate dances with enemies now that I have wrapped my head around the new mechanics. It can be tricky.

You really have to know WHEN to go crazy and when to back off. The battle flow is really addicting
It is. Found the wooden shield earlier and its item description literally tells you to stop being defensive and start plowing everything in your way. Like Miyazaki tells you "Thought you'll be doing well with a nice shield and some rolls huh? No, fuck you. Use the gun and dodge like your ass is on fire."
Don't forget the PVP
Striking, parrying, and dodging all day.
Sheesh these guys are good.

Still can't get any summons for 2nd boss. Attempt number 5 on my own \m/

Today is crazy. Day off work, this, Game of Thrones ep3, Life is Strange ep2, and a new episode of Justified to watch.

Watched that ENB video and holy shit at the number of routes and places to go in central Yarnham(1st area).....the level design surpasses Dark Souls initially.

Press Options, go to Settings, then Quit Game. You're saved and good to go.
Can anyone definitively say if illusory walls are in Bloodborne or not?
I don't think anyone can definitively say they aren't in, but I'm like 30 hours in and I haven't found one. I also haven't seen any
mimics
.

Just like in the Souls games, there is only auto-saving, which it does at all times. So yes, you can simply quit at any point.

One thing I noticed is how DRAMATICALLY resistances play a role in this game

If you are using the Kirk Hammer you may have come across quite a few enemies who are resistant to blunt damage.

Not to mention it has a sweet spot for the hit. Probably the most tricky weapon to use and I was a tad disappointed at the Hammer's stun ability. Enemies seem to recover from the hit faster than I can follow up.

Unless I use the charged R2 :)

it's like all the other souls games and saves every second. you can quit through menues (can't say how, i am at work but it's possible) or just close the game with PS button.

So is the closet lamp to the 3rd boss the one up at the top before the turret guy? I unlocked both shortcuts and explored all over down at the bottom there.

Also where can I meet the plague doctor/crow armor guy? I hear he as a quest (and more importantly gear) for me.

Uhhh...

Has anyone else gone back to the Dream and the doll is sitting lifeles and all you can do is level up? You can't talk to her?

I'm scared that I got a bad bug...

Can someone please answer this question: Is there a way to install the game without actively playing it? I just don't want to get to a point while I'm playing whee I catch up to the install and have to stop playing. thanks.

I've highlighted the game at the dashboard and hit the options button, but under info it has no install amount. I just want to be able to play it when I get home from work without hitting a non installed section

Thaks!

To all these people hating on the Threaded Cane and complaining about damage:
Are you talking about against everything or mostly just about against the Cleric Beast? Because watching videos with people using other weapons against him, all weapons seem to do pretty shitty damage, and against normal enemies I'm guessing the cane attacks fast enough to stun lock smaller enemies till they die (based on your stamina)? Just want to know if the distaste for it is just a kneejerk reaction to how hard the Cleric Beast is.

Saying that, even if it's bad in general, still taking the Cane as my starter weapon.

At first I was sceptical about that whole "stay aggressive and take risks" approach but now I see how awesome it is. If you can hone your skills you can end up becoming fucking rambo in this game.

Got into a fight with like 7 enemies at once and didn't have to seperate them to kill all of them.

You could almost never do that in previous Souls games

Speak for yourself. >:[

I'm three bosses in and so far it has the most impressive 3D level design since Metroid Prime 2 imo. I've been waiting a long time for a game like this. Demon's and Dark were good, but this is on a whole different plane of existence.

Makes me wish my video uploaded correctly. Lemme try again.

I decimated the first two with the chainwhip. Beat them both on the first try. I'll upload it later. But yea I love the chainwhip.

Anyone know how to use runes? I still don't know what to do with mine.
Yes please! Want to see some video of it since it seems many gaffers here having trouble with whipcane early game.

I guess Miyazaki didn't designed Yharnam as a game level, but as an actual city instead hence the interconnectivity.

That's not recommended. If the game happens to be autosaving at that moment you coud damage the savefile.

Yep! As a counterpoint some armored enemies and bosses are super weak to blunt. I've decimated a third of boss meter with one charged hit that was enhanced with a paper.

I cannot get the parry timing on the second boss
And when I do get to his second form he just knocks me down and keeps me there.
It woulnt be so bad but the loading my god.

This is what I was so impressed about after unlocking the first shortcut, how we'll the levels are constructed. I haven't faced the first boss yet but I have made significant progress after unlocking the shortcut. I'm all stocked up with vials and molotovs in preparation to fight the
Cleric Beast
. I've put six hours into and most of that time was dying and restarting the same area again until unlocking the shortcut.

Ohhh yeah

Armored Enemies get absolutely crushed by the Hammer!

The hammer is the only weapon I have hit over 300+ damage with btw. That charged R2 is insane

I'm pretty sure it will continue to download even with not open, but worst comes to worst why not just leave it on the main menu while at work?

The game installs as long as it's in the system and the system is powered on.

Have you tried
going up to the balcony bit when he goes into beast mode? It made it easier for me. If you miss time the parry then just roll away from his as fast as possible and try again. Keep going back and forth along the balcony trying to parry when he goes for the attack.

It should automatically download and install the game even when you're not playing. As long as your console is on, that is. Odd that you can't see install amount under info.

Once you finish downloading the playgo file (5GB and patch 3gig), it will download the rest and should show the progress and file size in options, information.

Less than 4h to go..

Thanks guys, mytha, weird, no install info, and I turned on the game to trigger the install, but it doesn't seem to be happening, I'll check again.
