Yeah I figured, just wanted to share a bad joke lol.

I like that Colbert performance as well but cant see where it'd fit on the ablum.

SkyBlew Reminsisces of the day he opened up for KL.

#TBT Me and the man the world knows as Kendrick Lamar the day I opened for him... Crazy, me and my ex would always say, he is gonna be MAJOR.. Look at him now. This was before Section 80 dropped. He liked my set and I spit a verse for him, he was loving it and said "You Got It Sky" ........... Wow. Fast forward, i'm popping in South Korea, went on my first tour and now tomorrow i'm opening for Curren$y at the biggest venue I ever performed at (Ritz Raleigh) in front of the biggest crowd I ever rocked... Never know where life will take you... Catch me tonight in Raleigh at The Beatmaker's Ball (Royal James). Rocking with FULL BAND The Digi Destined both shows! Bless! A few tix still left for Curren$y

Copped the album the day it dropped, but was banned so couldn't talk about it. I honestly think this is going to get AotY. It's such a huge step up from GKMC that hits on so many levels that you have no choice, but to recognize Kendrick. I know he pissed a lot of people off with that "Control" verse, but real talk, who among his generation of rappers can even come close to him at this point outside of (IMO) Gambino and a few others? How Much A Dollar Cost and Mortal Man sealed it for me.

It's crazy how the horns in the beginning of These Walls mimic the moaning of the woman immediately after. It's the same pitch and everything. Album keeps giving.

Institutionalized may be my favorite track.

Apparently TDE doesn't think they have moved enough records in LA

LA we need 2 step up and stand out...#TDE

Please don't let Kendrick drop some commercially viable bullshit on his next record because of this.

If you haven't already, please put Tetsuo and Youth and this on random repeat, and then come back and lets discuss the difference between Anatomy and Complexion, and a few others.

So a friend of mine just made an observation. I'm not sure if this was intentional but

To Pimp A Butterfly
=
2 P(imp) A C(aterpillar)
=
2PAC

KENDRICK DA GAWD

by anatomy do you mean body of work? (my favorite track of tetsuo)

ive been thinking about this a lot and i definitely think kendrick is getting to the point where his message is overlapping with a lot of lu's same messages

"i" made me think of "show goes on" immediately when it was released but in retrospect, making that connection makes me wonder how similar the original vision for lasers was going to be to tpab, thematically at least. i mean how long has lupe been championing respecting yourself and making changes within to unify and make changes on a grander scale? seems like forever

that tupac thing is suuch a reach tho haha

Yeah, I mean I'm still excited for Ye's and Drake's shit and some more stuff, but I can't imagine anything coming close to top this.

They will be very different albums thats for sure..dont think you will be able to compare many commercial LPs this TPAB. After Yeezus im ready for some more All Day type stuff you can hear while driving and working out.

for sale is also his revelation against lucy after for free right? lol

just downloaded the mp3 of the colbert performance of youtube long ago, doesnt really matter to me its not on the album

I fail to see the humor. I actually don't like 'for free', 'u', or 'i'either. I would have much preferred he put 'never catch me' from fly lo album in there instead of any of those aforementioned tracks.

Never catch me doesn't fit the album. And it's a Flying Lotus song, i don't know why Kendrick would put it in his album.

FlyLo has production credits on Wesley's Theory so yeah. These dudes just throw around tracks and verses to each other and decide afterwards who gets it. Though I suspect Kendrick approached FlyLo for the song first and pretty much told him what he wanted from it.

Never Catch Me could have made the album if Kendrick wanted it to but it doesn't fit the theme of it at all. FlyLo has said that he took a bunch of other songs as well.

the humor to me is that each of the tracks you mention are heavily tied with the concept of the album and the overall narrative. that's all

edit: for the record, when You're Dead came out FlyLo said Kendrick really wanted Never Catch Me for his own album, but FlyLo wanted to hold on to it. FlyLo gave Kendrick a folder of beats before Kendrick came up with the concept for TPAB

Come on! For Sale is easily one of the best songs on the album. Love that joint. Flows right into Momma.

ah.. well... you've succeded cause it definitly went over my head lol.

lol my bad, like i said bad joke. Lucy is the name of a fossil skeleton.

I can dig rapping. But a rapper with a ghost writer... what tha fuck happened?
I swear I wouldn't tell but most of ya'll sharing bars like you got the bottom bunk in a two man cell

This line made more more sense of Kendrick's stance that he wasn't a rapper, but a writer. He said it on Colbert Report, and I was like, uh ok. Then this line came out and I was like, ya I get it.

It's a positive album, but it doesn't captivate me.
Same feel, the ambition is there like a mofo, the concept is lofty..but the abject mediocrity in the verses is killing me..thats KL in a nutshell, its so easily digestible to the masses because its basic in rhyme structure and face value to the point of being ham fisted.

If this is what hiphop heads are going crazy over they've forgotten the face of their fathers.
