The UK is smaller than Texas.
Bingo.
It's not reasonable to simply multiply by 5. The cultures and laws are not the same. The U.S population is 5 times that of the U.K. If we're going to play the whole "they have less people so it's not a fair comparison" card, then it stands to reason that to reasonably compare the two countries, all we have to do is multiply the total number of police killings in the U.K (68), by five. This gives us a total of 340.
The U.S has had far more police killings than that in the past few years alone.
Okay OP, I'll give you that but can you say the UK enjoys the kind of "freedoms" we do? I rest my case.

Sure- but there are a ton of other factors to consider that make this a bad comparison. The access to guns for one. I think its more than a bad cop/good cop issue- its more a wholesale look at America's problems with guns, police militarization, and violent crime.

Get the guns out of peoples' hands, then you can make that comparison.

How many people have been killed by police in Texas?
The whole point of making the comparison is to consider all of these factors.
The fuck is this? Define 'freedoms'. The right to posses a gun?

Make it into an actual degree with strict selection instead of a glorified bootcamp.
Geographic size definitely seems like a highly relevant factor here.
Honestly a more apt comparison would be the US versus Russia or China.
Countries in South America probably have the highest death tolls out there.
Listed as 89 in Canada since 1932Those are the facts as compared to our former rulers.
Here's one article discussing it
Police slayings are a hot topic right now but I felt this statistic was a fantastic way of framing the "debate". Whatever your ideas are of HOW we arrived at such a brutal point, what are some possible solutions and thoughts?
I suggest a major focus be placed on non-lethal submission tactics, better training, better funding, and perhaps an introduction of their own "three strikes" policy in terms of "we can't catch you thrice beating the shit out of a suspect just because you're the only person we have to fill the job."
More officers speaking in public against the actions of their clearly diseased peers would also be a HUGE step towards ending the animosity a blue wall of silence gives the rest of us.
Don't discount it so easily. Allow me to demonstrate :
The UK. You walk outside and see your neighbour George across the street. Hi George!
Texas. You walk outside and see a blurry figure in the distance. Unable to identify it as friend or foe, you grab your rifle and shoot it to be safe. Damn, it was your neighbour George. You fall to your knees and curse the open plains and the limitations of human sight.
See? "America is big and has a relatively low population density" is always a valid excuse!
Cops in the UK don't really have to deal with an armed population.
Canada is even bigger and wider and has hostile winters....... but you don't have as many yahoo gun related incidents per capita or cop related incidents with firearms as to the neighbor to the south
freedom to get beat down by cops without due process
Guns is THE biggest factor of violence in the US when compared to other Western Nation.
Poverty, Inequality, no access to public health care that keeps the poor as poor is worse when compared to other Western nations
If the level playing field for the poor, the working class was even out with access to affordable college education and public healthcare, that would be a big help.
The next big help would be to reign in on the insanity of gun culture and the 2nd amendment

While I'm the last person to defend senseless police killings, I do feel that this is a bit misleading. A police officer is probably far more likely to be attacked/killed in the U.S. than in the U.K. I think it's more of a reflection of our violent society than any statement about police killings/brutality.
American culture is incompetent.
For supposedly the best country ever, we sure like to compare ourselves to way worse countries out there.
At least we're not Iran.
At least our people aren't starving like in Africa.
At least our healthcare isn't like Senegal.

Even if someone does seriously believe this, it's not an argument for anything in itself. It's a toxic mindset, even more so when it's not true in many statistical comparisons. It's curious that people have this "good enough" bar when it comes to their country, while they are busy working their ass off for one more dollar bill.
American cops do kill too much, but the statistic is misleading in how much of a difference it tries to show. Not only is the UK much lower in population to the US today, but the population in the UK was much lower a century ago than there is today. In fact, there are more people alive today than humans that have ever lived and died.
Well maybe because in America people are more likely to make sudden movements because of the lead in paint? Mental health? Rap music? Obama? Mental health brought on by Obama getting into office because of rap music?

US cops are trained to deal with he public by murdering first and claiming self defense later. That's why the vast majority are scum and I couldn't give two shits about the problems they complain about because they brought the problems upon themselves.
Actually, they're almost there this year.
Also, how dangerous is it really to be a cop in the US? Heart attacks are a bigger killer as violence.
The solution is to give people more guns as well.
I am from England. I live in America,
And murder while on duty gets you a nice paid vacation and the chances of you actually going to jail are laughable low. Then retiring early with a full a pension.
