I've finally hit my moment of being stuck on a boss for a frustratingly long time...the Cainhurst Castle boss is just wrecking me. Finally after going at it solo for the game, I'm trying to summon in help...and of course no one will show up.

Sooo any tricks to this fight or anyone want to jump in and help me take down this headache of a boss?

Regarding R
om
:

Killing the spiders makes you have very little to worry about. Aiming for the butt and using blot damage helps A LOT. To nitrous is god like.
I always dodged the ice spikes from the sky by paying attention to the timing and dodging diagonal forward twice. I was never, ever hit by them. By then, only thing you need to do is hit his side and calculate when he is about to use any other attack. In that case, dodge back and use that time to recover stamina. His moves are easy to read, and, without the other spiders, he poses no threat. It made the fight surprisingly trivial. I beat all bosses so far (I'm past Micolash) locked on, and the only time I felt a very tiny bit hindered was when trying to aim Amygdala's head. I was still able to beat her third try, level 53 (after hacking at her leg the first two to very little damage). The extra iframes and faster movement are very helpful.

Cross post from the other thread but figured people might want the info.

With regards to the Beasthood stat

https://youtu.be/asGIxU_m6Qg

Think of it like a variation of the Power Within pyromancy from Dark Souls, there's some wiggle room for different scaling on the weapons but basically the meter works in 3 stages giving a corresponding buff and debuff where you deal and take 20% 30% 40% more damage. the percentages are fixed for the debuff but for the buff to your damage output it's tied to scaling across all categories. Main hand weapons that have scaling with every stat get the full 20/30/40, those that are missing scaling with any particular stat get roughly 15/20/30 percent buffs to damage.

The first half of the fight you're best off staying pretty close and dodging his 2 magic attacks. You can normally get 2 good hits in before dashing away. Once he starts to charge up an AOE move on 50% health get in A quick charge attack and visceral.

During the second stage it's really all about getting parrys and move visceral attacks. Avoid his superman attacks by dodging away and when he plants his sword in the ground quickly aim at it and shoot it to get rid of it. It's then just a case of baiting him into his slow scythe attacks which can be parried easily.

Don't worry about taking a fair few tries. He's widely regarded as one of the hardest bosses in the game (well in the top 5 anyway). I took 14 tries on him.

By the way, something that's a bit annoying and probably worth knowing if you want to loot chalice dungeons for blood rocks or chunks using that Google spreadsheet:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...mdV15tR9G0w2mbA/htmlview?usp=sharing&sle=true

You cannot loot the same item more than once if it's the same type of chalice.

I tested the glyphs rpzkeauc, 3nawt3ys, and fmu9qx9g. All three are Isz chalices, and the second or third one (I forget) is actually Rotted or Fetid even if the document doesn't say (it said it was when I created the glyph). The first two say they have a Blood Rock on layer 1, and the third one has one on Layer 2.

I looted rpzkeauc first, and got the loot it said. In the other two, however, both times the sarcophagus revealed only a Great One's Wisdom. :( I explored all bonus rooms and looted all the chests, just in case.

So yeah... it needs to be a different chalice type. I looted a blood rock from 4292egu2 which is Lower Loran. I don't know if Depth is related (would a blood rock even spawn in a depth 4? all of those are depth 5), but if not, it means there's a maximum of 3 blood rocks you can loot in chalice dungeons; one from a Pthumeru dungeon (probably Ihyll only as it's depth 5), one from Lower Loran, and one from Isz.

I understand you can't loot more than the same rune, but it sucks for blood rocks or chunks. :( They're rare enough already, dammit. Needless to say, dismantling the glyph and remaking it doesn't work either. Funnily enough all the other loot does respawn if you do that (usually just blood vials, bullets or ritual materials) but not the sarcophagus loot, it just turns into a Great One's Wisdom.

There should be one right outside Cathedral ward, front door where a crow is hanging out near the stairs.

I don't care much about the lamp either, but it's very confusing because you expect something to be going on there and there's nothing.

I thought maybe you can only have one blood rock at a time can't hold more than one maybe

Nvm. I guess it makes sense. So once you've exhausted those options you have to play a NG+ to get another rock which totally sucks

I can give some tips -

Make sure you interrupt his charge up(Usually happens at about 50% health) by doing a charged attack on his back. Otherwise he ends up being a lot faster and manages to do some kind of matrixesque bullet deflecting during phase 2. I didn't realise you could do this so I did actually beat him while he was charged up but I don't recommend it, he's a pain.

When he shoves a sword into the ground which does the swirling aoe, shoot or attack the sword so it stops. I didn't realise you could do this at first and tried to line of sight it, which works, but far from ideal especially if he's charged up lol.

Parrying works well in phase 2 since he mainly does melee. A bit tricky to do if he's charged up since he sometimes deflects, but if you interrupt his cast it's fine. If the bullet hits him just as he's in front of you when he does the charge attack, that stuns him. Otherwise you could dodge it and attack him while he is recovering. When he does the 3 chain attack you can parry him too, shoot as soon as he starts the animation for the first attack.

Why would you loot more than one of the same rune? Can't you equip the same rune in all slots if you want? I remember doing that for my +15% stamina one.

But Chalice dungeons don't renovate for NG+.. That makes farming for them only being possible on the places they appear on the main game. Which is even shittier...

It seems really hard to find summons, either for co-op or PvP when being high level. I have a character on level 153, and i mostly have to wait a long time before i find someone. I also have a character on level 60 or something, there i find people much faster.

Had a great night tonight. Managed to beat
that Lord of nightmares dude (I know he's a piece of piss but still).

I then dropped the mother brain in nightmare of mensis and did the gesture at it to get the moon rune then picked up the blood rock to get my Ludwig up to +10.

I grabbed the choir bell to finish off my hunter equipment collection (and scored a nice gold trophy)

I then strode back into the daughter of the cosmos and finally beat her in only 6 bloody hits (charged R2 to the head x2 followed by a visceral then 3 pops to her dome with my blood tinged +8 canon) after trying more then 20 times to beat her I finally manage it without taking a single bloody hit. God this game is equal parts frustration and elation. I love it.

Only nurse margo, German guy and moon dude to go.

The higher you get the less people are playing which means less co-op or pvp. Most people finish and stop after the story. So, they are done around lvl60-80. If you want to interact with others, plan your character builds around those lvls. Since I love helping people, I stop my characters at 60, 75 and 85.

But you shouldn't need to farm. Just do them in order starting with pthumeru. There should be a guide for this but I found that I was getting all the mats I needed from doing the dungeons in order. Before the defiled pthumeru I did the ailing loran because I needed bastard of loran. Then I did the isz dungeon because I needed two more red jelly (I got two from NG). I found that the only thing I needed to farm was arcane haze which is easy enough since you can buy ritual blood from the vendor and just convert them with the arcane haze tool at the workshop.

I haven't done any root chalices yet but at this point after doing all the regular chalice dungeons I have a ton of materials and I'm sure once I start doing the root chalices I'll find more mats in those dungeons

True, although i did play Dark Souls 2 (PS3) for about 400 hours with a single build and i still managed to find people to play it fairly easy. I dont remember which level i finished at, but it was pretty high. Maybe something between level 200-250 or so. But yeah, that is probably the reason, that people wont replay Bloodborne as much. It would be nice to know for sure how the match making system worked.

If anyone is really desperate for an uncanny threaded cane, I got one in my central Pthumeru root chalice dungeon. But it was all the way on layer three in the pre-boss bonus area, so you would to go through pretty much all of the dungeon to get it. I reckon there are other shared dungeons where you could find it much easier. Only other thing of value in the dungeon was a plus 10.5 % (or so) droplet blood gem on layer 2, but I reckon most of you have moved on to stronger gems by now.

Anyway, if anyone is interested, the glyph code is uaanmbxy

You can parry his dive bombing attack too
edit: Maybe that's what you meant by charge attack?

Same. If you do all the chalices and check every room, you shouldn't need to farm for any mats.

With DS2, you had reasons to continue playing, better weapons in NG+, new monsters and etc. While, with BB, there's really no reason to.

Does anyone else think the game
changes drastically once you beat Father Gascoigne? He was honestly my favourite boss. Great lore surrounding him, an interesting questline involving him and ultimately a very satisfying fight. Once you beat him, the game starts to shift towards the H.P. Lovecraft theme with the dreams and nightmares within dreams and aliens and stuff. Not saying that's bad. It didn't ruin the game for me. But I can't help but wonder how the game would have been if it kept the atmosphere we experienced from the intro to Father. I also felt like other bosses had less lore than Gascoigne. Felt like he got a lot more work than other bosses.

This could, weirdly enough, actually be an argument in favour of soul memory. Due to how that worked, there was no point in keeping your level low, so then, even high-level players would have no problem finding people to play with.

Game doesn't shift to that until rom. You have Cleric Beast, Father G, Amelia, BSB. Then witches are sorta in the middle, and cainhurst is neutral in that aspect. Then you beat the shadows and stuff is still sorta familiar, then you find rom and you go down the rabbit hole.

Nah. Soul memory sucks for matchmaking. Don't remember the exact amount, but after a certain amount, was it 5, 10 million souls or something else, everyone can be matched. I would hate to be the guy with the least amount getting match up with someone with 50 million souls. They put a bandaid on it with the soul eating rings, but there should have been someone in place from the beggining.

Great Pthumeru Ihyll Chalice
. You should have gotten the chalice from the defiled one you just completed. The issue comes when you don't have the mats, so you'll have to do 4/5 depth dungeons for them. One of the materials is only found in the main game world, too. After you acquire it, it should unlock from the insight vendor afterward, should you need another.

I wonder what materials in the game world I'll need? I want to hit the chalice dungeons hardcore after I beat the game. But once I get sent to NG+ I really dont want to have to fight any bosses or anything there too much. I am trying to figure out what items I need to gather now.

Oh well... Guess I'll have to embrace the fact I'll have to farm in NG+ <shudders>

Yeah, thats true. You needed to grind for those boss souls if you want to get all the boss weapons, and some purchaseable thing were unlocked at certain NPCs (only up to NG++ i think). It would be cool if Bloodborne had more of this.

I forgot to mention that my Dark Souls 2 playtime also includes 3 pieces of DLC, so that probably added maybe 50-100 hours extra for me.

Just finished it, really enjoyed it but not as much as I thought I would.

Maybe it's because I'm new to the series, but I didn't like how obtuse it was. At no point did I feel like I knew what I was doing or what was going on in general. I didn't have a problem with the difficulty, after the central Yarnham I didn't die that much, but it did feel cheap in places (perfect example is the Nightmare Frontier, getting 1HKO'd by a boulder thrown from a mile away that I had no chance of seeing etc). I can't figure out why they make you farm for blood vials every time you wipe on a boss, is there any point to this?

I was a little disappointed with the bosses as well, there were only 2-3 standouts, and the final boss(es) were terrible. They all seemed to either be big beasts that I have to hit from behind, or nimble humans that I have to parry. What annoys me most is that, after reading the lore thread, the story seems really interesting but I got hardly any of it in-game. I know the series is known for this but I wish they made it just a little more transparent.

Overall I still loved it, the combat was 1st class, but I don't know if I'll play it again. I was gonna give the PS4 version of Dark Souls 2 a go but I think I'll give it a miss.

Well, I'm not saying it's perfect. The implementation certainly leaves a lot to be desired. Especially the fact that it counts even souls that are lost due to not being able to retrieve your bloodstain, which punishes weaker players.

The reason for doing it like you mentioned is probably that they were worried that there would be too few people in the highest SM tiers, if they limited them in size, which is a valid concern. But a better way to solve that problem would have been to continously update the SM ranges server-side, keeping track of how many people are in certain SM ranges over time, and adjusting the tier cut-offs accordingly.

The main item you'll need from the game world is obtained very late in the game, so I would get it before going to NG+.

Just faced M
artyr Logarius for the first time. I didn't even manage to get a hit in before he killed me. Going in now with my best Arcane defence

The 1HKOs seem to be more common in Bloodborne than the previous games. Getting to 30 vitality seems very important to avoiding 1HKOs.

Beat M
artyr Logarius
on my second try lol. He was hard but I seemed to tank him pretty well.
Don't think he was subject to the glitch as he transformed to his second state which doesn't happen with the glitch. It was pretty intense at that moment but managed to dodge his flying attacks and chugged blood vials

Anyway,
I wore his crown and I met the queen but she's not interested in talking to me and I found an unread invitation to Cainhurst near her. Can anyone tell me what to do? I'm basically wrapping up the game now as I'm on Mergo's middle loft in Nightmare of Mensis.

I've made a HUGE mistake ...
I chose the sacrifice ending for my first playthough
and now I'm faced with fighting the final boss on NG+ (which is already proving to be difficult in the early stages).

Kneel before her. Did you do the upper cathedral ward and both bosses there?

I'm one trophy away from the platinum, but think I'm going to concede defeat. I just can't get through that defiled dungeon. It's a bummer cause I've been busting my ass for days in these dungeons but I just can't do it anymore. That 90%+ will just have to haunt me.

Might be time to move on to xenoblade.

Or perhaps sunset overdrive for something a little more light hearted.

You can give the
unopened summons to Alfred

Kneel before her. Did you do the upper cathedral ward and both bosses there?

How do I kneel? Is it a gesture? Do I already have it?

Yeah, I beat Celestial Emissery 1st try (basically the pinwheel of this game and I beat Ebrietas on my 4th try. Very fun boss

You can give the
unopened summons to Alfred

Ah okay. Is
Alfred the guy who you meet near Cathedral Ward at the beginning of the game? I think he moves to the entrance of the Forbidden Woods after beating Vicar Amelia

The only thing left between me and the platinum trophy is the Y
harnam Queen
, but it turns out to be a problem after she has 20% health left.

There's a spot infront of her you push X. Uh kneel before her before you give stuff to alfred too :D

Maybe a total new character with different build?

Yeah, I've just been thinking about that. I DID start a new build but gave up. Perhaps I'll plough through it as far as I can in NG+ and then if it gets too tough, switch to the new character (female this time) and 'relax' ... Or try to lol

I still finished it though! I'm pleased about that.

Beat it. 47h, Lv.77, 80% trophies. Fantastic game. That final boss (
Gehrman
) really was something else. Guess I'll grind chalice dungeons for a bit and look forward to whatever DLC there may come.

Don't give up! Defiled dungeon is doable. I persevered and got the platinum. Enjoyed every painful minute.

Hey everybody -- anyone up for making the next OT? Robot Pants is still banned, and this one's got about 2 pages before it's done :)
