Elden Ring Nightreign |OT| Praise the Rain

I grabbed this yesterday and played with two buddies for about 6 or 7 hours straight. It was good fun! The game is definitely jank, and it took a while to get used to the pacing (you REALLY have to min-max those first two days in order to stand a chance against the day 3 boss), but overall I really like it.

I especially love how fast the movement and traversal is. Even though jumping (and now wall jumping/ledge grabbing) is super janky, it's still nice to be able to mostly get to wherever you need to quickly.

But I can tell this game will live or die based off of who you play with. I would HATE playing with randos without a way to communicate. The only reason this was so fun was because my friends and I were constantly communicating in voice chat. It'd be a nightmare to play without coordination.

Anyone notice that on night 2 when facing the second Nightlord you have to fight *two* bosses before the Nightlord? First time I got Ancient Dragon followed by Dragonkin, this last run it was Ancient Dragon followed by Crucible Knight who summoned a hippo when he was down to 50% HP. Both times we cleared them but God damn, these are some intense battles. This Nightlord can eat a dick too, hits like a god damn ton of bricks and you better run out of its AoE grav bubble in time or everyone is getting wiped.
Yeah, that was weird. At least they refresh your Estus/HP/etc. before the second boss set. That would've sucked (more) otherwise.

managed to clutch my first win with recluse, she's soo good for drawing aggro but also dodging everything, and of course this is the run I didn't record 😂

I don't seem to have literally any prospect of clearing the first Day 3 boss. Got there four times, last L11 with 7 flasks. We manage to get it down to half health but then those three dogs seem to always target me, I have no idea if I have some extra aggro magnet on me

I've had sooo many awful Tricephalos attemps with bad groups and even had one where we wiped with the boss at 2% health. I finally got my first win last night - it can be done! You got this!

Biggest advice is to wait out the phase when he splits into 3 separate targets. Survive until he fuses back then get back to offense.

Random matchmaking experience is massively improved once you kill the first boss and move forward too

when gladius splits there will be a brief moment of aggro, you will see the red target indicator when this happens, and it always seems to be attack, attack, fire breath, but after that he's pretty tame and you can just dodge till he reforms.

This game is unplayable for me at the moment, insane stuttering going on. I'm on a 4070, there's no reason for this to be chugging to such an extreme degree. Even at the Roundtable Hold the game straight up freezes for a second every few moments. Haven't seen a game perform this bad in many years, not sure what is going on. Base Elden Ring runs great, zero problems.

Despite that I just tried doing a solo run, I'm not feeling it at all right now. You just get dropped in the map with literally zero explanation and then the circle starts shrinking so you just book it to the center and then get bodied by a boss because you're level 4 or whatever. That didn't feel good at all.

Any news on being able to play multiplayer with only two players? Guessing it was just a design choice out of convenience/laziness for the developers to not have to have additional difficulty scaling based on how many players are in the game. The first patch being a buff for solo players makes this more probable.

Don't support lazy devs.

Dont play solo and you need a few runs to get familiar with the game mechanics and for it to "click". Performance is garbage on my PC too sadly, hopefully the patch tomorrow will fix it and nvidia also coming out with a driver aswell

I thought I'd try solo for a bit to get a feel of the game before joining some randos and make a fool of myself and get carried, but it's probably better to actually get carried for a few rounds.

The patch is tomorrow?

Finally made it to the last boss with a group of randoms. Died obviously because it was clearly the first rodeo making it that far for everyone. Lots of confusion after beating the day 2 boss.

Feels like people are starting to get to grips with this. Actually having a surprisingly good time.

Beat the game in under 30 hours.

Final boss was all of us iron eye. Group of randoms know how to sling that thing. Ezpz.

Had an insanely good run just now against the Libra goat thing, we got tons of upgrades and even managed to get the legendary in the volcano and do recluse's remembrance quest all in one go; was the first time I fought the Libra so I did go down a bunch, he kept taking me out right when I wanted to cast every time, heck I'm dead for like the last 2 minutes lol, but I pulled a lot of aggro dumping tons of damage on him with that purple staff, in hindsight that's the one I should've made legendary, but I literally had to make that choice in the flames, so I was just basically mashing to pick.

Anyway recluse is a powerhouse if you get one of the crazy staves, just huge damage dumps which will make you pull aggro, but her dodges are generally good enough to deal with it if you know what's coming.

I have beaten several day 3 bosses with randoms. Once they get past the learning phase everyone I played with seemed to know what to do. Honestly I am having a great time with random people so far.

That boss felt the most fair in the game. Talk to him prior to get a buff, then start the fight once you all get a buff off speaking with him.

When he summons the symbols in the air attack them to stop his attack.

Touch the gold stuff on ground to lower madness. Roll out of glyphs on ground.

Boss is mad cool and all classes can contribute.

Yeah I knew that, but it's pretty hard to dodge out of the glyphs when casting since only a few cast animations can be canceled 😉
I also didn't pick a buff cause the one guy kept gesturing no or something. 🤷‍♂️

Idk what the benefit is or isn't. Maybe a trophy to beat him if you don't do a buff?

But my mans was offering me a free revive lol…

I heard each buff also comes with a debuff. The one for increasing your level for example, everytime you use a healing potion your level goes down. I don't know about the others.

EDIT

Taken from the wiki (doesn't seem to be complete yet):

- I wish to have great strength -
- I want resistance to ailments -
- I want to hold death at bay - When the player's health is low, their HP is fully restored in exchange for reduced maximum HP.
- I wish for more agility - Gain Stamina in exchange for HP and FP
- I want a high level - Gain 3 levels but lose one every time you drink from your flask
- I desire a flask - Adds a flask charge in exchange for HP
- I desire a powerful weapon - lose 2 levels but get a random purple rarity weapon
- I want to gain many levels -
- I wish to be in touch with the arcane -
I wish for eventual greatness - Increases HP, FP, and Stamina by 3x but reduces Stats by half
- I want the power of a demon - Grants an eye that shoots enemies, which builds up Madness when used

Ohh I figured out that the evergaols are what you should be focusing on the first day. If you can find enough keys you easily get to lvl 10 the first day beating evergaols and selecting the rune reward.

They are the easiest bosses for what you net from them definitely.

Stuff to prioritize:
-Flasks from Churches
-Quick run to bottom of mine to guarantee a level 2 stone if you kill the giant for a free purple upgrade.
-The castle in the middle is great to plan to end on in day 2 as the knights offer fat farm.
-Legnedary weapon if you have the ability to do so At lava Craig bottom
-Smaller camps that have the white alien big bug eye guys are always good fast exp.

If you get to day 3 with 6-7 flasks, a purple weapon, and level 13-15 you should win without issue unless skill issue.

Okay, now that I'm getting my head around the game, I'm starting to warm up to it. It's actually pretty damn fun, just a little overwhelming at first.

The powerful weapon one is definitely bs, it gave me a common weapon when did it 😂

I've gone to sleep in game to get rid of all the map changing effects and I shit you not it still takes a half hour at best to match make to get an attempt at the knight.

It's the only boss I didn't do and I wanted to end the game today with full completion of the bosses. However, the matchmaking is donkey and FromSoftware doesn't have any plans for that in their patch tomorrow it seems.

Stick to what you know FS- single player games. You are ass backwards at online worse than Nintendo.

Kinda what i've been saying. Not only are they good at singleplayer, they created a genre, and for over a decade, hundreds of devs are trying their hardest to ride the souls train, and pretty much all of them fail miserably when compared to FS titles.

But at the same time, what the hell is their excuse for not creating a new engine? Why are we stuck with this old ass engine that runs like garbage on all systems, and is capped to 60fps? Why is their online features feel like we're in 2002? Once upon a time, they had an excuse, they were a small dev without much resources, but those days are long gone, and ever since ER, they're ballin'. They have zero excuses for not improving EVERYTHING people have been complaining about for years.

Yep. Bandai bucks backing them, sales backing them, and now we have dusk bloods coming… that game I have 0 faith in performing well or having basic online features.

But as always, I'm an eternal fromsoft giga retard and will be there day one.

Check if worldwide matchmaking is enabled. It wasn't on my side for some reason and once I enabled it I found games much faster.

The Nightlord boss themes are sooo good. I haven't heard them all, but what I have listened to so far in-game is peak as usual.

I'm loving the surprise of seeing bosses from past games as well. I fought the Gaping Dragon earlier, glad they left the tail dismemberment as part of the fight too.

It was trying to have any remembrance quest on.

My quest is to literallly kill that boss and it still puts me into some bugged out queue. The second I took it off I can get that boss instantly.

Edit: Beat the boss. Finally got a good lightning now for the run and it was easy. Without lightning the boss is brutal.

That's all bosses done as Iron Eye. GG. Will play a little more as Wylder before moving on later this week to Tainted Grail.

Man oh man, just had my best run ever with two Wylder's (y'all sleeping on Wylder) and my Ironeye, smoked the Maw like he ain't shit lol

From the very start both guys were following all my waypoint markers, we were in perfect sync. At some point on day 2 we were invaded by Margit, first time seeing this, wrecked his monkey ass. We had 3 deaths total (none of them mine, first no death run!), one to the Maw, one to the night 1 boss (and he died right when the boss died so it doesn't even count) and one I didn't even see because after Margit these two guys took on a miniboss while I was focused on a specific waypoint lol.

If you're playing as Ironeye you need to actively be applying Weakness. This should be obvious but sometimes it's easy to get lost in the sauce, hanging back launching shots. I will actively sprint right at the boss, slide through with that dagger, unload on that mf like I got a grudge against him, everyone prospers. Another interesting point, 90% of the time I stick with my default bow throughout the entire run, sometimes fully upgraded but sometimes only upgraded to the first tier (like the above vid). I have fire affinity relic from the jump so flaming arrows all day. Point is starting weapons are absolutely viable from beginning to end, I actually dropped legendary sword for one of the Wylders, I don't need that shit, I'm sure it made his day lol.

3 Night Lords down, the journey continues. Just unlocked the icy mountain cataclysm, should be fun 🏔️

The soundtrack is incredible. My only gripe is that the epic choir music from the reveal trailer and launch trailer isn't on the soundtrack as a standalone track. They did include a clean audio version of the reveal trailer called "Debut Trailer", weirdly enough.

(the full soundtrack was included with the collector's edition, 45 tracks in total)

Yesterday me (Recluse) and 2 Ironeye's just deleted the final boss that it almost felt cheap. Definitely feels like Recluse can do insane damage if you get the right spells. Especially when you get something like ancient death rancor. The boss constantly focusing you can be mitigated by getting the anti aggro items. But she has a nice dodge anyway and even if you die you have 2 ironeye's who can quickly get you up again.

Augur down, let's fucking go! More annoying than difficult, glad that's over with, new story cutscenes ftw.
That's most of the bosses in this game. Annoying and not difficult.

The centaur knight boss is arguably the hardest in the game if you decide to not have any lightning damage in your group…

Am I understanding it correctly that non-equiped swords, bows and shields still contribute their passive, unless there is a hand icon? So I should scoop up as much shit as possible?
