I like repro's when they are marked as such, especially for stuff like Star Fox 2 (which I really need to play at some stage).

Its a pain in the ass for Game and Watch stuff though - everything from boxes to the polystyrene tray can be repro's so going after boxed, complete genuine handhelds are an ongoing nightmare. I'm halfway done with my collection, just got the expensive side to go now!

Think this has been talked about before, but I feel that just by existing a repro is marked as a repro. It's just a bootleg if you are making and selling games that area already available in a region.

According to what I read on smspower.org (they are trying to make new cartridges for homebrew), 3D printing is way too expensive: it needs too much material, the plastic filaments are expensive, and the tolerance margins are not good enough to make both sides of a shell fit nicely. Plus it's apparently difficult to make pretty round corners.

I consider the Repro makers the same way as how we have various publishers being able to use texts fallen into public domain. Some do fancy books with hard covers, illustrations and commentaries, others do small paperback with cheap paper that you can read on your commute without worrying about the object. They also have different prices, depending of what you are expecting in your edition.

Save for the important distinction that video games are not public domain yet, their original publisher will never reprint them, ever. I think it's only fair that other publishers take their chance at publishing the original game with new fancy art or mimicking the original release. The only scummy part of that practice is that of property of said art. It's not public domain yet, yet repro makers don't seek approval from the author nor give them a slice of their earning. But they don't see a dime of the money we spend on second-hand market either.
 
I'm interested in buying repros of crazy rare games, translations or unreleased stuff but I hate that some are so expensive. I'm not paying $125 for a fake Nintendo World Championship, I don't care if the real thing does cost $18k. It's stupid.
 
Bought an AGS-101 GBA SP and a Wine Red DSi XL so now I have access to all nintendo handheld titles pre-3DS. Can't wait to dive in to these line ups that I pretty much haven't sampled.

Didn't Krikzz say he didn't want to do it? My understanding is that it would be very difficult to design and manufacture something so small. Personally, I think he doesn't need to stick to the GBA cart size... I wouldn't mind if the cart was twice the length.
 
it's a 15 year old console. It is retro to everyone except a niche who come up with their own rules about what's retro and what isn't.

It's less whether or not PS2 is a retro console and more about whether a collection consisting of a bunch of Guitar Hero games, Jeopardy, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, and Jet Moto 3 for the PS1 is a good collection.

yeah ps2 "collections" are usually scary things. Multiple years of various sports games and a random disc only Cabela's. If you're lucky, god of war 1.

Agreed. For me it's not an issue of age, it's the rubbish games. Those are the people who see listings online for that "super rare" "omg retro cool" "collection" for $200 and actually buy it, lol.

my first PS3 pickup, even before resistance - as a marvel fanboy, i adored it, even if the engine was just X-Men Legends 3.

still want part 2 despite it being rushed shit because my boy Iron Fist never gets any play, but im still salty i missed that carnage DLC. game's high on my list for "shit to get when GS puts 360 stuff at 75% off in a year or two" cause many stores out here still got it, but for way too much
 
Honest question. What was even the point of making games for the ZX Spectrum. Every comparison video I see, I just...I dunno man. Seems the definition of pointless.

For those people like me who owned a ZX Spectrum back in the day! Depends on the game your talking about but I enjoyed plenty of great games for it back in the day (Ultimate's isometric games, Batman, various Dizzy games, Strider to name but a few). I do own Street Fighter 2 for the Spectrum and I've always wanted to see how bad that is, I've "played" Final Fight and really that game is unplayable, that's a prime example of a game that should never have been ported.

Well, since were on the topic of flash carts, Darksoft put up the ordering for his cps2 flash cart. Its like $300 and won't start shipping for another month or so, but goddamn if I can't wait for it to come in.

Maybe I just need to look into it more. I don't really play anything Atari era and back, but the tech always interested me. Maybe its just games they tried to port like Outrun and such.

I hadn't heard of this before, but looked into it and it seems really awesome. I'm like a level 0 cps2 collector with no technical know-how, though, so it still seems a bit intimidating. And even though it's gotta be the cheapest way to play all this stuff, I still don't even have boards to attach it to and a cab or supergun to use it with. I'm trying to get one of the ud-cps2 superguns (which sound amazing for someone like me), but I think it'll be a while before he makes any more if at all. If anyone knows someone who can do battery swaps or ideally keystone mods, I'd be glad to hear it too in case I don't go the phoenix edition route for boards.

Owning one at the time probably helped me appreciate the computer more, as it was neat to see just how they managed to port arcade games at the time as the Spectrum did have its quirks (colour clash being somewhat terrible, but nostalgic all the same).
Strider for example was the last Spectrum game I played, its missing the last couple of stages and boss fights but it looked good (for the system) and played pretty well. Its not a touch on the arcade or Mega Drive version but for the time it was the best I had!
