Once I get the short root chalice, does that mean I can grind high level dungeons without the need for materials?

No, you still need to make atleast one of them before hand to "unlock that specific dungeon tier".
The short root chalice is just a quicksearch for any dungeons open of the tiers you unlocked.

That said, if you have it unlocked (and if you have the required rites[dungeon modifiers] unlocked, if those are included in that specific glyph) you can just pick up a dungeon glyph(dungeon code) and yes, search them on an alter and use them for free unlimited times.

Damn you, Ailing Loran Chalices. Do the first one, and you get the
Abhorrent Beast
along the way. Do the Lower Ailing Loran Chalice and...
Abhorrent Beast
again! You fuckers!

I did smash my way through them, eventually getting ok at it, but damn that was the worst boss block I've had ever since that one particular
Undead Giant
in one of the lower Phumeru Chalices.

Nothing in the main game has given me this much trouble and I'm pretty much done with NG+ on my overly bloated "lets try everything" character.

Finally beat this game last night.
Gehrman
was easily the best fight in the game. Loved everything about it, super intense fight, great music and location. I really wish I could replay that fight again without having to get there in NG+ haha. Also beat the
Moon Presence
which was a crazy fight simply because I only had 3 blood vials left. I beat both of them on my first attempt, had to go into the item menu manually against
Moon Presence after he did his auto 1 hp attack
to use Iosefka's vial haha. Glad I had that or I definitely would not have won.

Overall I liked BB a lot, can't wait to dive into the Chalice dungeons more!

Awesome, that's what I was implying. Nice implementation by FROM to make sure we're not always grinding for materials. I've completely ignored the Hintertomb, but will go get that chalice I'm down with the
Queen
.

Defiled amygdala down. Fuck yes been there forever. My hands are sweating.

Yeah, it was a fun fight, but surprisingly I found the dog harder because my initial approach was all wrong.

Did the final battle remind you of MGS3?

What's the deal with sinister root dungeons? I'm hesitant to drop materials on them if they're just slight variations of the original dungeons.

Fuck cursed/defiled(?) Amygdala btw. It's like ancient dragon all over again when you hack at it for 5 minutes and die to one mistake.

Sinister are pvp enable. Roots are dungeons with random layout and bosses. They do have better gems, runes and uncanny \ lost weapons version of the normal ones. And, you can select options like curse (half life), rotting and fetid to make even harder, but better chance for loot.

Its better and faster to google for glyph loot list and join someone's else root so you know what loot you will find.

So, I was going to go for a Bloodtinge build for my 2nd char but now I'm doubting between this or Arcane build.

Cons of Bloodtinge is mainly being locked to just the Chikage, and also I don't know how harsh is the HP reduction of it.

About Arcane, I liked DEX/INT-FTH for weapon buffind and some magic but for what I saw the buff in this game is pretty weak and also the Burial Blade and Blades of Mercy (the weapons I would like to use in this build) aren't buffable at all. Then there's the elemental gems but I don't know how viable they are compared to just Attack gems...

Anyone tried both builds?

BB and BoM have terrible arcane scaling and the weapon buffs don't scale with arcane at all. An arcane build is much better off using Tonitrus and Ludwigs blade with elemental gems.

The Chikage drain is about 0.85% of max hp per sec, not too bad. Since you get the Chikage fairly late (and you need 50 BT to make it really good) you're gonna need a decent amount of Skill to get you there, so you can still use the cane and BoM on the side. If you use Blood gems in your Chikage keep in mind that these will not improve visceral damage, that's why I use a cane with only phys % gems for parrying. You can use physical gems in the Chikage, they do improve the blood damage, but there are some very strong blood gems available and there's not much reason to use the Chikage in it's untransformed state anyway. It's a great endgame weapon especially against bosses. Mine has about 700 blood atk and the attack speed is quite fast. You also get extra damage and stagger power on the first attack out of the scabbard, but this requires some good timing. I think it's one of the most fun weapons to use.

Now go back to where you first met him.

Alrighty then! I think that was in Cathedral Ward, to the side of the building with the stairs down to Old Yarnham.

You can take
her remains
to the altar where you fight E
brietas and resurrect her
.
She'll be back at the castle
,

What!?! Holy Crap! How are you supposed to learn that? Trial and error I guess. Okay I got something else to do before taking another wack at Gherman. Glad I didn't finish off last night. Thanks!

AB
is one of the more frustrating, yet fair fights in the game. It's one of the few where I get frustrated when I lose but have a sense of enjoyment while attempting it. Every one of his moves are easily telegraphed and most if not all of my deaths were because I was too greedy.

He is seriously the worst.

Easily my most intense fight of the game so far. I spent ten minutes parrying and being parried the first time I killed him. After my save was corrupted I just cheesed him. It's funny how he can be the hardest or the easiest guy you fight in the game depending on strategy

If you thought Loran was hard, just wait for Defiled.

Eh, I know the bosses there. AB was kind of an anomaly, since I really didn't learn anything about him when I just tanked him in NG and turned him into a smuf in NG+.

Based on my latest clashes with everyones favourite Defiled bosses, it won't be quite as bad even with the cut on HP. Fuck
Ebrietas'
charge though. The width of that move is crazy.

I fucking hate fighting these enemies, the only one that creep me out:

JWzW7fp.gif

GIF is very similar.

do you mean those
crazy chalice berserkers
?

also, what is that from? too early to do google lookups.

Yes, they move exactly the same way and just creep me out. It's always unnerving having to fight them. Don't know where it's from just found the GIF perfectly suitable.

Made it to the
Unseen Village
, and I'm not really liking this area. Between the
bell maidens
and the
freaking laser-firing Amygdala
it's really difficult just to be able to get to explore and soak it all in. I basically sprinted from one lamp to the next, in the
chapel, where I almost died to laser spam on the stairs just outside the door

Go back up the stairs from the chapel lamp and
hug the left wall. You should find a hole in the fence that allows you to drop down. That will take you to the maiden that controls the enemies in that area. Once you take her out you can explore freely, you just need to watch out for the laser you mentioned.

Honestly it's not a very large area so there isn't a whole lot to see anyway.

i really wish i recorded my sprinting this morning, was really fun and i was screaming the entire time, just "arhhhhhhghhhhhhh moveeeeeeee"

i shall play later and i think i am near the end but who knows

after beating that moon blood skeleton undead thing , then examining the mummy and going to the second floor of the school, now im in the second nightmare thing, am i near the end?

Technically, yes, they are easy - but just creep me out. I think they're the creepiest enemies in the game, in my opinion.
The fat rolling guy in I think sinister takes the prize for me. Maybe he appears again, hope not.

I glitched him into the floor using the doorway and cleaned up. No regrets.

Matchmaking needs to be fucking fixed.

its terrible at best but the reddit on how to matchmake did lead me to some success last night...

1. both restart your game (I restarted the ps4 to be sure)
2. go to the same area (like literally you and your friend stand on the same lamp, just sit there, don't even move 10 feet to kill that one guy)
3. set password and make it unique (long as possible, the max is only 8 char)
4. small bell rings first
5. large bell rings last .

if no success within 5 minutes.

6. fire blanks.
7. repeat from 4.

with this instruction, we connected last night 3 times within 2 minutes and only failed three other times. (one success was marred by an invader which is completely bullshit for this broken system).... so yeah it's broken but this can make it work at least 50% of the time.

Damn I hate those dudes a lot. At first I was shocked with their movement speed. Enemy design is brutal in the chalice dungeon. A lot of people are fortunate they're not in the main game hahah.

I hate how you can't re-spec in this game. I'd love to try out a Dex build, but I really don't know if i'd want to make another character.

Miyazaki loves the concept of commitment :P

I did the
run around the table
cheat to make an alternate character and loving the cane/mercy blade .... but I don't recommend it for everyone, makes the beginning of the game pretty boring. Just fyi though it takes about 1.4 million echoes for level 85 or so.

Does anyone keep keep randomly getting 99 echoes when running around the old workshop??

I seem to remember one or two places that did that in Bloodborne. Reminds me of those random souls you'd get in the Great Hollow in DS1. (Apparently somebody discovered it happened because there was a basilisk that would spawn outside the map as soon as that area was loaded and immediately die.)

The frame rate while fighting Loran Darkbeast is awful. It literally doesn't take inputs in spots it's so bad. You'd think the framerate would be better in an empty room like that.

This may have been asked and answered but I found an uncanny cane and uncanny saw spear. What are the differences. I have had a chance to really compare the 2.

Hit em in the head (or where his head used to be) with an L2
Whenvever he starts his shooty thing get close for maximum damage.
This was my kill, also with Ludwig.
https://youtu.be/yAiKotpV3yA

When he's doing his air aoe attack, run up and 1 hit him.

Get close to him (camera pans up). He will do 4 possible things:
1) If you move to close to his hind legs, he will do a foot stomp. Don't do this.
2) He jumps away. Repeat.
3) Jump and body pound. Just dodge back and run up 1 hit. Repeat.
4) Fist hand pounds. Dodge 2X toward right to his side, move toward his thigh, attack 2X and dodge back out. Repeat.

Once the worm comes out, don't be scare and stick to the plan.

I just beat him yesterday after 5 or so tries. I found the best move was the L2 with Ludwig - it really punished him. Granted there is really only one safe method to attack and that's when he shoots poison. Other moments are risky and you have to feel him out.

He's definitely tough though.

Thanks for the tips, guys! I eventually took him down. I'm now in the platinum club :D

I breezed through the Y
harnam
boss fight on my first attempt. She was a breath of fresh air after the previous two bosses. Here are my post-plat stats:

I'll probably focus a lot more on PvP now. Which reminds me - there's no item in this game that allows you to complete re-spec your character levels, is there?

Edit:

I hate how you can't re-spec in this game. I'd love to try out a Dex build, but I really don't know if i'd want to make another character.

Oh...

Wearing all three clawmark runes and using 25-27% gems I'm getting 5600 damage viscerals, neat.

I had something similar happen in a chalice and it turned out there was a whole bunch of summoned red spiders at the fog gate.
