Devs proclaim their dislike of paid DLC. Paid DLC is announced.

Devs state that downgrade rumors are unfounded. Graphics are downgraded.

Yet there are droves of apologists. I think the game still looks plenty nice, but I don't get why CDPR gets graded on a different scale than other devs.

Project red and steam have turned their back on us this year. Its important to remember we have no friends in the industry.

Devs state that Paid DLC needs to be of sufficient quantity and quality to be worth paying for. 30-40 hours of additional content is certainly in the realm of worth paying for.

Shit like extra armor, haircuts etc free

I think that's a discussion to a different thread. But I agree that CDPR tends to get a free pass from people where other publishers would be trounced.

You just need to check the GMG thread. Lots of people defending them to the death.

I like to think there is still difference between DLC [e.g. horse armor] and actual Expansion [Blizzard level stuff]. But fighting over that definition would derail thread too much, just had to mention.

Holy crap, that particular comparison is an entirely new level of stupid.

What we usually get is just people not understanding how time of day and weather affect the final result, but here we have someone going ahead and outright comparing different assets in entirely different areas to pronounce their "verdict".

Good thing this is now kept to its own thread.

Well said, and that's exactly my problem with it too.

We do have a few of the same places that can be compared and discussed, but instead we get these ridiculous comparisons that don't actually compare anything useful because they're mostly looking at completely different assets in unrelated areas to draw their unsupported conclusions from.

The handful of areas that we can directly compare show three things:

1. Most of the assets and overall quality is nearly identical.
2. A handful of elements that subjectively look worse to some people and may represent a technical downgrade.
3. A handful of elements that subjectively look better to some people and may represent a technical upgrade.

This is what the evidence actually shows us so far.

Second one is a legitimate argument, but the first one isn't.

CDPR promised Oblivion-large type DLC, and unless they don't deliver, it's fair to give them a thumbs up for the time being.

I don't get it.. yeah, CD Projekt RED maybe lied with the VGX trailer, but they are showing off the game with graphics which we have today, in gameplay videos for the last year.. people had a whole year to decide if that's problem or not.. for me not.. could atleast the PC version looked better ? Definitely.. but what you gonna do.. the graphics are still great, the game looks to be in great quality, so I still don't see the problem.. people were bitching about graphics in this game a one year before.. and so why is it still going?.. you have tons of video material directly from the game.. there are many threads on their home official forums, they know that people are complaining about it..

But why must it go over and over again.. if you don't like those graphics, and you want to protest, don't buy the game.. atleast people should have wait till the release date now, why bitching now 1-2 weeks before release.. what's the purpose? Is it going to change something? NO!.. wait till the game releases, compare then the scenes you want and you can bitching then and write some hateful messages to CD Projekt RED.. but in my opinion in this days, it's just pointless

And your are bitching around now, but just look at this video (various vidoes from Youtubers) and tell me it doesn't look great : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oiLMkf1COP0

The thing that rly made me realise that the downgrade was real werethese two scenes in the sword of destiny trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KczsbBpX1so, at 1:22-1:25 the scenes in the bathhouse and cave. The lighting and geralt's hair even when compared to recent hairworks vids are miles better than what it is now. Pretty disappointing though I still think the game looks decent and should be pretty great to play.

I'm not a fan of this bait and switch. I refuse to support developers who advertise one thing but deliver another.

If they knew they couldn't deliver on the original promise, don't showcase your product as such. Especially with "gameplay" that's not likely to be in the final product.

I fail to see why anyone is being outraged. Most people that post here should know by now not to trust what is shown of games these days before the final product is actually out for real.

Didn't they make it clear they would still charge for expansions when they made that announcement?

Of course, we'll obviously have to wait and see if their 'expansions' fit every individuals own definition of that concept.

While I agree,I think
BloodBorne
looks on par if not better.

I am really not trying to open the floodgate that is gameplay comparisons, however.
Character models are way above what's found in Bloodborne tho.

This is not an universal thing. 2K14 blew my mind when it was revealed and I got to play exactly that on my console. Same thing with Pillars of Eternity with the lighting demo., game delivered. I'm sure there are plenty of other examples.

This whole Bloodborne looking better than The Witcher 3 is crazy. Art style wise I can see the argument, but on a technical level I just can't.

Some NPCs don't even move their lips when they talk. I would also state that the materials tech is far better and more granular in W3 models than those in Bloodborne.
Literally none of the npcs have facial animation for conversations. In a 2015 game.

The only way devs will satisfy people like you is if they stop showing their games altogether until the games have gone gold. But then people would just bitch because they aren't getting any footage. The developers can't win.

Games are constantly going through changes all throughout development. In this current climate in which every change is perceived as a downgrade by someone how can devs avoid downgrade claims short of just not showing off their games until release?

There were no friends to begin with. They're here to make money, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. It's just so silly and irrational when you see some apologist defending bullshit.

Well that looks like a huge down grade from what was shown. Can't fault anyone for being upset or disappointed. It doesn't mean that it doesn't currently look good.

I called the downgrade after ps4 was confirmed for 1080p and xbox one was 900p. The consoles can't run that 2013 glory so they scaled stuff back.

While it may not be a universal thing I see no problem with lowering ones expectations/hype from early reveal trailers and demos till it's out.

The X1 footage in that other thread shows off some amazing lighting and is anything but "flat". Looks like some screen comparisons in to OP were cherrypicked to maximize outrage.

Right, so I get your second point, but your first point is built on a false premise. If you actually cared to do your research, you'd know they said that for DLC to be paid, it has to offer significant content. They're adding a whole new region and tonnes of new story content to the game....you expect it to be free?

Everything else like quests and cosmetic items are free, and rightfully so. Don't open up that tin of worms again when it was closed tightly in the thread before.

The game looked more impressive in 2014 in the Sword of Destiny trailer than it did in 2013. In fact, a lot of the screens for the game pre-E3 2014 looked pretty drab.

Worst downgrade of this gen.

#youlied #downgradeton, etc

no no no
It has to be #downgradegate
it ALWAYS has to be #_gate
Sometimes I fucking hate GAF. Sigh.

If this was a PC only game, they you guys who are bitching would have something to complain about. But it's not. Can you imagine if the console versions were shit while the PC version was flawless?
because console gamers ruin everything, obviously

Yikes, this is brutal. It pains me deeply that I'm going to have to cancel my preorder, as I've been a big fan of Sapkowski's universe, CDPR and the Witcher games for many years.

I mean, I came in here expecting to dismiss this downgrade talk as somewhat premature and misguided, but this is unequivocal. What we have here is a scientifically rigorous process using uncompressed direct-feed footage, with identical scenes containing identical assets, where variables like platform, settings, TOD, weather, etc are all controlled for and clearly indicated to the viewer.

And sure, I know one of their quest designers dismissed "downgrade talk" as the byproduct of a fundamental misunderstanding of the game development process, saying something to the effect that, "[Footage from 2 years ago] represents our aspirational goals as to how the final product will look, but of course we can't show you precisely what the final product will look like, because, you know, we haven't fucking finished it yet."

Now, I may not be a game developer in real-life, but I've dabbled enough in bee husbandry to know a barefaced lie when I encounter one. Preorder cancelled and good riddance to bad rubbish.

Yeah that's really one thing that blows my mind about the game. Some games 10 years ago had automatically generated facial animations, it shouldn't be that hard to implement.

The leaked footage so far of the PS4 seems kinda stuttery. Frame rate drops, lots of LOD pop in, including lighting. Just janky.

I really hope The CD Project Red guys didn't have to dumb down the PC version 'cause consoles.

Seriously. No offense to the Order - it has a great artstyle and I LOVE how it looks, but looking at it purely from a technical standpoint it looks more like a souped up PS3 game and isn't anywhere close to The Witcher 3.

Sure, one the most, if not the most, technically accomplished videogame on the graphics side this gen, looks like a souped PS3 game... I know a The Order and Witcher 3 comparison is downright silly in terms of scale alone, but please don't say stupid shit.

is it 30-40 hours of meaningful, unbloated content or is it just a number thrown out there just so there won't be backlash?? Tons of hours of gameplay has been announced for plenty of games but in reality, a fraction of that is actually meaningful.
